How to relieve stress? While a certain amount of stress in our lives is normal and even necessary, excessive stress can interfere with normal daily activities and take a toll on our personal lives and health. Today we at Bright Side invite you to try an ancient Japanese technique of self-relaxation that will not take you more than 5 minutes and can be done just about anywhere. To practice the technique, it is important to understand that each of the fingers of our hand represents a different feeling or attitude.

How this method works 1:38
SUMMARY:
- The thumb helps combat emotions like anxiety and worry. The index can help you combat fear. The middle finger helps you control anger and resentment.
- The ring finger can help you fight depression and sadness. Also, it’s responsible for making you more decisive. And the pinky helps to calm anxiety and increases optimism and confidence. This finger represents self-esteem.
- To harmonize the life energy in the body, grasp the finger with the opposite hand, wrapping all the fingers and thumb around it. Now hold each finger for one to two minutes.
- If you want to calm your mind, slightly press in the center of the palm with the thumb of the opposite hand and hold it for at least one minute.
- Practice this technique every day to stay calm and re-establish the balance within yourself.

All the jokes apart, I tried it right now and it truly works. I was a mess of emotions since the last 2 days. It felt like my body was charged with emotions and I was under so much stress. I decided to hold all the fingers one by one. I first held the thumb and then the index fingers. As soon as a minute went by holding the index finger I automatically started feeling calm and a lot better. After around 10 minutes I even started laughing at some joke I thought. If half an hour ago someone would’ve told me I would feel this calm I wouldn’t have believed at all. I’m leaving this comment here so that anyone who’s here because of any mental health issue knows that THIS WORKS. Trust me I know how worse one can feel due to fear, anxiety , anger, sadness and lack of self - respect. Whoever needs this I hope you find the strength to carry on with whatever task is at your hand.

Galaxy Kitty That's just in your case. If you were to never have gotten arthritis, but say you cracked your knuckles a lot, then that would say something. But it sounds like you've never cracked your knuckles or anything, but you have arthritis. My grandma and my uncle both have arthritis because of knuckle cracking.

This is from Jin Shin Jyutsu. If you want to treat your whole body at once put your hands in a prayer position. It doesn't matter if you fold your fingers with palms together or touch both hands together palms facing each other and fingers straight out from palms. You are treating all your meridians, organs and all your body's systems. Do this as often as possible.

Thanks for sharing this technique with us. This is really useful for me as I have anxiety and I get stressed easily. When I'm stressed, I get emotional. It now makes me feel a bit better that I have a method to calm myself when I do get to that stage. Thanks again.

Wow. I don't know why but it works. I've tried humming technique, tapping, relaxation music, breathing techniques for anxiety but this works quicker. Best of all no headphones or anything required, easy and convenient to do, love it. Thank you so much for this 🙏🏾❤️🤩

Interesting technique to calm down the mind. I practice this since last 5 years. In addition to this I do exercise daily and take balanced diet. Obviously proper sleep is also essential. Hats off for you.

It's weird that I came across this today. I couldn't sleep last night and remembered this method from a video I saw years ago. I tried it and was fast asleep by the ring finger. I was able to get four good hours of rest finally. So I guess I can say it works at least for restlessness. Cheers!
