@@hedonistaesthetic828 these were mostly European or European countries, except for South America and the giraffe is in Africa and I only missed two of the questions which was the bull and the giraffe. Oh, and I didn’t think of the Whale. The reason the Europeans did better is because they were all European questions for the most part but the Soviet union falling apart is something that should’ve known considering they live next-door and the Berlin wall came down in 1989 . The cold war didn’t even start until around 1950 because the USSR would not withdraw from the European countries they took back from Germany after World War II. Stalin promised that he would, but then Franklin Roosevelt died right before World War II ended in Europe, and the United States didn’t want to fight the Soviet union over that, even though we would’ve won. Europe was blown up and we didn’t want to do that again- what we did to Japan, but a land invasion would’ve killed so many more people and taken longer. The atomic bomb killed approximately 300,000 people in Japan and maybe a little bit more but a land invasion would’ve killed 1.5 million Ally folders approximately & 8 to 10,000,000 or more Japanese because it would’ve killed the military and more civilians would’ve been killed in addition to committing suicide .

Are you saying elementary schools go up to grade 6? That's not how it was in my schools, it went up to grade 5. Also, I think there's flaws in that. I remember very little to nothing of any history I learned in elementary school, and it wasn't re-learned in middle school either. School must be really different wherever you teach. Some of our schools have sixth grade in middle school and some in elementary school but the curriculum is the same wherever they go to school. Yes it was. Lewis seemed to have some difficulty accepting that; but from the time that the Bible was first put into book form,it has always been the largest seller. Another factor is the fact that many Bibles are provided by churches for missionaries and for the children of the church. All the different versions in all the different languages are bought and sold at some point. This has been going on for centuries. Gutenberg may have made the mass sales possible, but I doubt if there will ever be a book that surpasses it.

The American girl that said it would have been better if they would have worked together with their collective knowledge is a perfect American response. Americans typically work collectively to make something exponentially better. A small example is pot luck dinners. Instead of one person/family making a dinner for everyone, everyone brings their best dishes so people can select their favorite items. The meal is overall better because it was a collective effort.

You should also take into consideration that your history books are influenced by your nations experiences, and your culture influences the rest of your education. Just as ours influences us. Our predecessors fought Indians, crossed 3000 miles to reach the Pacific Ocean, and then claim the expanse as our own. Europe and the UK had paved streets before we even thought of them.

The blue whale size thing: The best explanation I can give (not being a physicist) is similar to how being in space (a zero gravity environment) could affect the evolution of a creature. Because you somewhat float in water, creatures can evolve to be larger because water supports their mass without causing strain on their bodies (from buoyancy). But on the solid ground, creatures could not support their mass on land if they were as heavy as something the size of a blue whale. In space, a near infinite mass could be supported because there is almost no strain on body tissue (as well as organs, bones, etc) because there is nothing shifting the mass of a creature down onto a solid surface. But blue whales being that large is with the theory of evolution, you could not nor would not become significantly larger in your lifetime. However, your offspring could theoretically adapt over millions of years to become that large over many generations.

This test should be done where Europeans and Americans are answering the same questions, not racing to hit the button first. My answers: 1. China 2. No Clue 3. Spanish 4. Japan 5. Yes, but towards the end. Early on, they were allies with Nazi Germany. 6. Sperm Whale 7. The Bubonic Plague/The Black Death 8. 50 9. By land area or by population? By population, I'd say Vatican City. But Idk when in terms of area or land mass. 10. The Pacific Ocean 11. Russia 12. 1km = 0.6 mi 13. Black 14. 1970 something. 15. The Bible, followed by Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.

When I was in school in the 70s and 80s we were required to learn our state history, our national history, and also world history. After high school I attended a Junior College for 2 years and have an associates degree based in hospitality/travel and tourism, so my training was heavily based in world geography. Also during college years for graduation we had to have world history and humanities. I also made sure my children have world history and geographical knowledge.

It's strange how you said that they don't teach American history in your schools in the UK, but a lot of people in the UK don't understand why some North Americans don't know much about other people's history. When I was younger we were taught about different countries. just a little bit from each country, but when it came to American history we were mainly taught white people's history with a dash of african-american, a dash of native american, and a little sprinkle of Spanish history. Also, how is this about common sense? Did I misread something?

1991 cold war ended.. I’m American. WHY do people think Americans are dumb? It’s ridiculous because our education system public school level has declined over the past 20 years or so, but that’s because of politics. We’ve had 20 years of democrat presidents, and only 12 years of a Republican as president in 30 years and that’s why public schools have declined. American colleges are even pumping out on people now because many of them are indoctrinated… The LSAT is not required in most states to apply for law school anymore and it should and colleges good if you’re going to major in science like computer tech, computer, science, medicine, healthcare, and to go to law school but aside from that no it’s not worth it.. do you have to get a bachelors degree at minimum to be a teacher and then get a post Bachlorette but you still have to take your licensing exam and if you want to be a psychologist or even a social worker, you have to go to college for seven years and it’s frustrating because my daughter is a social worker and it took her at least about two years after she got her masters to start making 47k to 50,000 a year. After three years when she was eligible to take her license clinical social worker exam and pass it then she was able to make more money and she probably Mickey Mouse 70,000 a year now but she pays 1500 a month in student debt. We learned a lot about European history in college, and if you took western civilization, you learned a lot more even about Africa and the far east . I don’t know if kids have to take western civilization anymore because I went to high school in the 1980s.

I got all but the vatican and giraffe question, this was pretty much stacked. We are judged on the fact that Americans are less knowledgable about europe and other countries that are across the largest body of water, but they are never judged on not knowing about the Americas. There is also the fact of interest, when you look at how many Americans have passports vs the rest of the world, if you don't plan on traveling there you don't really care what goes on there most of the time. Americans with passports are more likely to visit other countries in the Americas. We are just as smart, we are simply not that interested it what happens on the other half of the world, therefore while we may know in a basic sense it's not something on the top of our mind. Just as most of the other half of the world is clueless when it comes to the Americas.
