You can eat cactus! Nopales is a variety that can be eaten. The prickers are removed and the paddle like cactus is cut into strips. It’s usually sautéed and tastes like a green pepper with lemony notes. That same cactus also produces prickly pear fruit. It’s used in Mexican and Central American cuisine.

Hi Lewis, you were confused a lot in this one. Texas Roadhouse is a family steak house founded in my city, Louisville, KY. The rolls are so good. Generally the meals are very good quality. The onion is also killer and is NOT $25.00, maybe half that price. Battered and deep fried with a special sauce to dip it in. Really Good. The theme of the restaurant is Texas and you really feel like you are in Texas. There was butter on the potatoes not a chunk in the middle. Most people in the US get jacket potatoes with steak. Now that you have done this reaction I have decided to go there tomorrow for dinner.

Texas Roadhouse and Outback are like the McDonalds and Burger King of steak places; they aren't fine dining but they are well known places you can find anywhere which are fairly edible, they're the places you'll find anywhere that people are familiar with. Its not a high tier steak place but it works if you need a steak with the family, it fills the niche. Price is fairly affordable, if anything there's hardly a difference in price between fast food places and restaurants these days, so there's more reasons to go to restaurants lately.

Yes you can eat a cactus, they are a survival food if you get stranded in the desert, but don't get the thorns in your mouth. Texas Roadhouse is a great place to eat, but their Cactus Blossom is like a Blooming Onion, but they can't call it that, since Outback Steakhouse has the copyright on that name.

Nopales (beaver tail cactus) is a thing in Mexican cuisine. It tastes a little bit like a mild pear. I have it in tacos sometimes, it’s delicious. They sell it in some grocery stores here in Las Vegas as well as restaurants. So it’s not just a survival food. But speaking of survival, the big barrel cactus have the most water for desert survival and is a lot safer than drinking unfiltered water from a creek.

A show several years ago was a chef attempting to recreate famous dishes when the recipe is a trade secret. One item was the Blooming Onion from Outback, a similar restaurant. They slice an onion into a flower shape, batter it, deep fry it, and serve with a dipping sauce. It has a horseradish-like flavor. Turned out, the batter was also the dipping sauce! Whatever was in the batter didn't require heating, but could be used as a batter. I don't regularly go to these types of restaurants, but I do love a Blooming Onion because I'm craving the horseradish.

I managed a Texas Roadhouse and I can tell you all dishes are made daily and depending on what they are are made hourly, and the steaks are cut in house every day with the one exception being the porterhouse steaks, and the secret to why the steak seasoning hits different is they put sugar in it then sear 10 seconds each side before moving it to the broiler. The cinnamon butter, despite what you see on the Internet, is just whipped butter clover honey and cinnamon that is whipped again until fluffly then cooled until solid again.

I've done the "it's my friend's birthday today" prank several times over the years (probably been over 10 year since I've done it, though). It's not ALWAYS well received, partly depending on the place and how much they put into their celebration of birthdays and partly just on the person who you are "pranking" and how much they'll go along with it or get flustered, annoyed, or even upset about being pranked like that. But when the one being pranked doesn't get upset about it, and it's a good place, with good servers and maybe even a crowd of patrons who get into it with them, it really does add a lot of fun to a meal. Often, the place will give a free piece of cake or something to the one whose birthday it supposedly is, as well. This kind of "harmless" prank isn't super common nowadays, I don't think, but it's also not completely uncommon here in the U.S.

Down in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas (Edinburg or McAllen?) there was a restaurant with a livestock auction area in the back. In the morning you could bid and buy a cow, go inside and tell them to butcher it and have a steak from that cow served to you that night. I wish I remembered the name of the place. Naturally, you better have a lot of storage space to bring the rest of the meat from the cow you had butchered. Not the cheapest way to get a steak but it was possible. Of course you could just order a steak like any other place but having one from an animal you picked out and had custom butchered is unique.

Yes, you can get fried cactus. They take the cactus (probably prickly pear cactus) prickles out. Then it is quite safe to fry and eat. I had some, and I can compare its taste to maybe one thing: somewhat like grass. I describe the taste as green. Not a bad taste, but unique. I think it probably has to do with the amount of chlorophyll in it. I find it tasty. Then again, frying improves the taste of everything.
