"Is Oklahoma Western themed?" My wife's grandmother was born in Oklahoma in 1907 - her birth certificate says "Indian Territory". So it is more about its history, than a theme.
@Lisa-dn2gx4 ай бұрын
That's so cool!! My grandma's family moved to Oklahoma in a covered wagon. Back when the James gang (Jesse James) would hold up at different farms avoiding the law, they held up at my great grandparents farm a few times which was unusual since they didn't typically go to the same place more than once. But according to my grandma (born in 1896) her dad told her that "mama put her foot down when they were gonna walk in with them boots on & she made um leave um out on the porch, but I think it was her cookin & playin poker that made um come back"! 😂 Wish I could get the accent she'd imitated in text especially with her Scottish brogue coming through!! Oklahoma was made up of two territories before statehood. Oklahoma territory and Indian Territory. I'm not sure what you mean by western themed, we have a deep history of cowboys and American Indians. If your grandmother was born in Indian Territory as was mine, she would have been born in Eastern Oklahoma, settled by the Indians during what is known as the trail of tears. If she had been born in Oklahoma Territory, her family more likely would have come to Oklahoma in one of the land runs, or belonged to an Indian tribe whose land was basically stolen to make way for people to populate the state.

I was born and grew up in eastern Oklahoma 30 miles from Arkansas. Eastern Oklahoma is lush, green and hilly. Western Oklahoma is much more flat and part of United States plains. OKC is in the middle of the state. Western Oklahoma has oil wells and Wheat production. Oklahoma is a top 10 state for wheat production. Before statehood in 1907 the Oklahoma panhandle was known as no man’s land. After the Indians were relocated to Oklahoma the us government had 7 land runs where generally whites came into what would become Oklahoma, staked land, and bought it from the us government. Many Mennonites, Dutch and Northern German, took advantage of the Oklahoma land runs. They were first in Kansas then came to Oklahoma with turkey red wheat seed and started growing wheat. I left Oklahoma and have been in Texas for 25 years. Only small differences in my opinion. Many people migrate between Oklahoma and Texas, especially if you work in the oil business. Also students from both states attend universities between the states.

Technically, "chai" is just Hindi for "tea," but in India it's often brewed with spices, and often brewed in milk instead of water, which gave someone in the US the bright idea to use it as the basis for a latte using spiced tea instead of espresso. These days, if you order chai in the US anywhere other than an Indian (or Pakistani or... you get the idea) restaurant, you'll probably get a sweet black-tea-and-spice milk drink. The spiced tea is often turned into a syrup both to make mixing the drinks faster and to make it easier to make an iced version (since it's just milk and syrup and ice).

My grandma traveled by covered wagon from Red Cloud, Nebraska to around Guyman, Oklahoma when they opened up the Cherokee Strip (the last of what had been "Indian Territory") where she lived in a sod house for four years until they could save up for wood to build a "real" house.

I am Native American from Oklahoma, lived here on the rez my whole life lol. There are tons of awesome places to visit here. There is a place called Robber's Cave where famous outlaws like Jesse James supposedly hid out up in the hills and caves. The land there is beautiful. There is another place I love to visit called Wooleroc. It's kind of a wildlife preserve/museum. There are also plenty of beautiful lakes and rivers to visit.

But Lewis, you say you don’t have “stuff like this”, but you have museums and big beautiful churches and a history that dates back hundreds of years. Plus, you are close to France, Italy, all of Europe, where there are so many things to see and do. I can’t imagine how much fun it would be to see the world you live in. Don’t get me wrong, I always feel flattered by your enthusiasm about the US, and you may not have the same things as here, but you live in a place with deep culture and many different things to do. You do make me very proud to be an American, though. And, I (and many other subs who follow you) truly look forward to the day when you can be here to make your videos and share your firsthand experience in the US. PS you should plan your trip later in the summer, when kids are back at school. After summer break, many places lower their prices, the lines are shorter and there is less hustle and bustle. When you plan your trip, you should look online to see what is offered during the off-season. Just a suggestion, but one worthy to investigate. ❤love your channel ❤

Also, at *least* half of the times he says that Britain "doesn't have anything like this," he's simply mistaken. He seems to have done remarkably little traveling within his own country -- even in areas quite close to him and easily accessible by public transportation. That's his choice, and I'm not knocking him for it, but it does sometimes get a little frustrating to hear him marvel at things that he could easily find much closer to home than North America. Or even at things that are actually *more* dramatic in England -- like the turquoise waters of Cornwall, for example, which stunned me to gaping wonderment when I first saw them, because the only other place I'd ever seen water that hue was in the Cariibbean! Oh, and Lewis, if you want to experience the exotic and delicious side dish we call a "baked potato," just go to any restaurant near you and order a boring, mundane, commonplace jacket potato. They're the exact same thing. We just have a different name for it.

And, in the interim he needs to bake a potato and cook a steak, put it on a plate, slice the potato open and slather it with butter, a couple dollops of sour cream and scrambled bacon bits. It’s not rocket science. This is a common home made or restaurant meal. Add a vegetable of choice, salad and bread, rolls, biscuits and he could enjoy one of the best meals of his life. There are western themed places, and the rural parts of the state are farming communities so it’s naturally more “western” in those areas, but the bigger cities are very modern. And steak and potatoes are a classic American meal. It’s literally one of the most classic American meals so much so that people use it as a phrase in the same way that burgers and fries go together.
