Hi, this was a good cover of the kit that we carried during the so called Emergency. The Indian jacket was popular in that it was designed to breath. The same jacket was hated by troops in HQ areas of Singapore, KL and Hong Kong as the JG’s were starched to look “smart”. As mentioned in one of the comments we carried two water bottles and as we could use the mugs in these to cook in there was no need to carry the mess tins. Good point about the smell of soap etc, as it was pointed out by our Scouts, we all had a distinct foreign smell. In fact for any serious patrolling we were encouraged to eat only local Malayan food. Enough has been said about the terrible boots, but this never stopped the MOD from trying to inflict horrible gear on to the poor Brit squady in the future! Cheers mate. Harera

Always excellent, but I do miss the old background. [edit] I typed that comment too soon, while you were still in front of the white wall. The photos of kit being worn in four profiles with closeups is actually very good.

l love this look. It's too bad that the early P44 seems to be hard to find outside of the UK.

I get your problem, im in the US but Soldier of Fortune has lots of P44 webbing pretty cheap

A really informative video. As I understood it though, the main reason for not shaving in the jungle was to prevent any small cuts becoming inflected. Hadn't heard of the scent reason before, but it makes sense too.

I have an identical jungle hat, but inside I find no signs and marks of British production for the military. My Jungle hat has been washed multiple times, but there is a small tag with the number 50 (red numbers on a white background). Probably means size. Is it similar in yours?

Love the new format. I'd always assumed more than one water bottle/ canteen would be carried in a tropical environment , especially when you see how many U.S troops would carry in Vietnam.

Absolutely, carrying more than one water bottle certainly became more common later on but is not apparent in photographs from the early stages of the emergency.

I suspect they would be issued with the canvas water carriers, I know mates had them in Belize and we had a few in Cyprus. I have one unused [dated from the late 80's] went to a military museum and there was the exact same design on show in use in the far east in WWII.

Nice interesting video. Why is 44 pattern webbing so expensive compared to say 37 pattern ? Cheers
@HistoryTracks19436 күн бұрын
37 pattern was produced by the millions whereas only a select sum of 44 pattern was ever made

I went to Jamaica in 1992, I was issued a pair of those rubbish boots. I got rid asap, and managed to scrounge a pair of yank boots, which were much better.

Jungle Hat was it cost why it replaced the iconic Bush/ Slouch Hat of the Burma campaign.

Hi Steve, figure it out. The bush hat (Australian) was made out of rabbit hair; the hats jungle was made from leftover fabric. Guess which is the cheaper option! Harera mate.
