The video says, after the Caspian Sea the largest lake is Lake Superior in Canada. It is in Both the US and Canada.
@hollyheikkinen4698 Жыл бұрын
Here's a few more random facts from my region in Northeastern Minnesota: First, a correction, the video states that Lake Superior is in Canada - it's actually partially in Canada & partially in the US. Lake Superior is an hour (that's Minnesotan for about 55-60 miles) away from my house in two directions. Duluth is an hour straight south of my house & the North Shore of Lake Superior is also about an hour straight east of my house. - I live on the Iron Range in St Louis County in the Arrowhead of Northeastern Minnesota. St Louis County is actually bigger than a few states in the northeast of the country. St Louis County is so big that it has several County Fairs, the biggest are the North St Louis County Fair (near my house) & the South St Louis County Fair near Duluth. The bottom of the county includes Duluth & it goes north to the US/Canada border. - There's a spot near my hometown that marks the line where water either flows south to the Gulf of Mexico & north to Hudson Bay - it's the Laurentian Divide & you can access the trails about 15 miles from my house. There's also another divide closer to Lake Superior that marks where water flows east to Lake Superior & the other Great Lakes to the ocean - it's called the St Lawrence Seaway Divide. The Great Lakes are connected through the St Lawrence Seaway all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. - fun weather fact - it was 47°F air temperature in my hometown yesterday & it was -47°F wind chill less than a week ago that's a difference of 94° in 6 days! The air temperature was -30 when the windchill was -47°. We have had a temperature rollercoaster this winter, so we have been having a week or two of our usually crazy cold temps & then a week or two of above average temperature off & on. Usually, in January we can get air temperature in the -40°F range (not counting wind chill) & it stays all month. It wasn't very long ago that we had the -40s air temperature & -50s windchill the entire month of January. We frequently have 24 hour temperature swings from -30s & -40s for the low temp to 30s & 40s for the daily high temperature, so we do experience 60-80 degree temperature swings in less than 24 hours at times. The state's low Air Temperature Record is -60°F in 1996 & it was recorded in a town about 20-30 miles from my house. Actually, the town next door to the winner also had that temperature, but their official thermometer broke so it couldn't be officially recorded. There's a huge thermometer sign near the highway in the non-official town to remind everyone 🤣 - Lake Superior also affects the region's weather since it's so huge & doesn't usually freeze over very much. The ice sheet actually moves when the wind changes direction at times since there's so much open water.

We had a program in grade school known as KUNA (Kentucky United Nations Assembly) and schools from all over the state would attend for 3-4 days and night and each school would represent one of the many countries (many we’ve never even heard of) and teach all about the cultures, population, statistics, etc. of these countries. We’d have a “world marker” one at one and you’d get to walk around and listen to music from the country, taste their good, see their clothing, find out what their major exports are, etc. It was a brilliant experience and I know of so many of these countries that are rarely mentioned, simply by taking part of this KUNA experience when I was a youngster. It was one of the best experience and programs of my life!

First, I think he's speaking English as a second language. The question is, what is his first language? Second, I believe much of how a culture has developed is due to their climate and geography. For example, there's more development in northern climates because people need more to survive-- and in a shorter time frame, since the winters don't allow for crop growth. And, depending on how moderate or extreme the climate, this affects how they developed, too. While this is very general, I think it explains much of man's cultural differences and similarities. Think about it. Also, one fun fact about America is that about 80% of the immigrants that came to America during the great migration period (1770's to 1910) settled in areas similar to their home countries. I think it's because they understood the climate and how to live in it and they felt more comfortable in it.

The exiled Charles II was finally proclaimed King on the island in 1649. 4. You’re quite likely to see a red squirrel in Jersey 5. Knitting was so popular it was outlawed in the 17th Century. 6. Jersey has the third largest tidal movement in the world, with tides of over 40 feet (13 metres). 7. Jersey was occupied during WW2. 8. Men are banned from knitting in Jersey during the fishing season of August-September. 9. Jersey residents are called 'Crapauds' ('toads' in Jersey French) by other Channel Islanders as Jersey has toads and Guernsey doesn't. 10. I would really love to see something more about Jersey, where you live! Could you possibly do a video showing us unique things about Jersey, what makes it special? How high is the High Point? What are some things you like so much that you would rather live there than anywhere else? I’d love to see a video like that! 💙🌻 Really there’s no surprise about the large French speaking population in Africa- Anyone ever hear of Colonialism? So many of the things which make one country different from the next are remnants of colonialism. Also, the Caspian Sea is salty, and has been considered a Sea since antiquity. In the distant past it was connected to the Black Sea. Lakes have traditionally been defined as being freshwater, although a few salty lakes do exist. Many have become more salty over time due to cities and industry using up much of the natural water inflow. The lowest point on the surface of the earth is at the Dead Sea, which is salty and full of many minerals. So among bodies of water which are defined as Lakes, Lake Superior still has the largest surface area. It is equally in the United States and Canada, not only in Canada as the video said. It’s a good idea to read up on some of these video claims, to properly understand them. But keep on educating us! I hope sometime in the future we can see you too travelling and exploring other places besides this room. 💙🌻

Australia, is a country which consists of the mainland Australia, as well as the island of Tasmania, and over 8,200 other smaller islands. The _continent_ of Australia, includes the country of Australia, as well as Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. It also includes part of Indonesia, most of which is part of Asia. The combined continents of Australia and Asia is known as Australasia. The entire continent of Australia, is part of a larger geographical region known as Oceania, which is often, but _incorrectly_ referred to as a continent. I'm pretty sure that Australia is a continent and technically not an island. I could be wrong. I'm shocked and amazed that they pronounced Kiribati correctly! Like, keer-ee-bas. Just distribute wealth evenly across the world?? First of all, thats called Socialism, and a lot of people tend to die when Socialism happens. Not because anyone is even fighting to keep their own property that they worked hard for, but by starvation because Socialists don't know where money comes from. It doesn't appear out of thin air. Neither does food. Even the US government is too bureaucratic to run a brothel. Prostitution is legal in parts of Nevada and a brothel was taken because of unpaid taxes. The government lost money and eventually had to close it. The Economist Milton Friedman said that if the US government was put in charge of the Sahara desert, there would soon be a shortage of sand. He wasn't wrong. The reason Africa specifically has such a low GDP is two fold. One being the corrupt governments, and two being its difficult geography. You just watched the video about the advantages of American geography, well find one about Africa's disadvantageous geography. Americans send a lot of money to Africa but it gets swallowed up by corrupt politicians and warlords. If you want a real education in Economics you should watch some Thomas Sowell videos, or better yet read his book Basic Economics. Another book you might want to read to start educating yourself about world politics, geography, and history is Guns Germs and Steel. I understand the sentiment of wanting everyone to be fed clothed and housed, it shows your good heart. Unfortunately the world just doesn't work that way. Keep up the good job choosing videos Millie.

The question of how many countries there are in the world has more answers than you might expect. The United Nations has 193 member states, plus 2 non-member observer states--Vatican City and Palestine. The latter is the best example of how problematic this question is. Palestine is controlled by Israel, so "de facto" it is not an independent country. But should it be treated as such? In other words, should we pretend that it is independent? Most countries and the U.N. say yes, while the U.S., Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and nearly all of western Europe say no. So, the answer is 193, or 194, or 195, or 197 if you include Taiwan and Kosovo. For Russia, the answer is about 200, since they recognize the regions that are de facto but not legally independent of former Soviet republics--South Ossetia and Abkhazia in Georgia, Transnistria in Moldova, and Artsakh in Azerbaijan. Then there are the parts of Ukraine that Russia considers Russian territory--Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk. Other disputed locations include Northern Cyprus, Somaliland, and Western Sahara.
@nochannel1q2321 Жыл бұрын
Palestine doesn't really exist yet as a country. To be an independent country you need to have sovereignty over your geography. The closest to a country that might become an independent state is Gaza, which has control of sovereignty of Gaza and, perhaps unwisely took the free, fair and well observed elections that brought the first country into being in that land and cleanly elected government as HAMAS.
@JPMadden Жыл бұрын
@@nochannel1q2321 I did say that "Palestine is controlled by Israel." In my original comment I could have made the distinction between "de facto" and "de jure" governments. "De jure (from law)" means that a government is recognized as being the rightful controlling body of its territory, even if it isn't in reality ("de facto"). So, Palestine is de facto controlled by Israel while de jure recognized as independent by the majority of the world, while Taiwan is de facto an independent country controlled by its own government but de jure a part of China as far as all but 14 countries are concerned. By necessity, even the U.S. participates in this farce, while simultaneously promising to defend Taiwan from China. Since China is powerful, the U.S. has to officially agree to their lie that Taiwan is part of China. China can then be in the right diplomatically, but wrong in actuality, when they complain that U.S. military support of Taiwan is an intrusion into Chinese "internal matters."
@nochannel1q2321 Жыл бұрын
@@JPMadden Palestine is in no way a country in its current state. The only way for a real argument to be made that Palestine exists is if you're suggesting there's no Palestinian territory in the West Bank. As far as your attempt to compare a country's existence de fact or de jure, international law doesn't work that way. Gaza has control over its territory, an independent government and only interaction is in counterattacks to rocket attacks from Gaza. Taiwan is very specifically not recognized as a country. The US deals with them via its American Association in Chinese Taipei. It's not recognized as a country by the IOC. There are lots of examples, but for things like a full membership in the UN it's something that comes when a sufficient number of countries recognize the country is sovereign and establish formal two-way diplomatic relations with each other. If you get all five of the Permanent Members it wouldn't take too many other countries for it to join the UN. More if the size or economies of the countries exchanging formal diplomatic relations and a lot of the least powerful and economically important countries do this.
@JPMadden Жыл бұрын
@@nochannel1q2321 I gave no opinion as to whether Palestine should be an independent country. Of course it "is in no way a country in its current state," since Israel is opposed to that. You said "international law doesn't work" the way I described, but your next sentence seems to agree with my argument. How then does it work? I remember that the West Bank and the Gaza Strip had a political rupture years ago. Do their local governments still function separately? While Palestine does not have universal foreign recognition, the two portions of Palestine have the luxury of not cooperating with each other. It does not matter whether a government has de facto control and deserves de jure foreign recognition. What matters is whether they have the political capacity to achieve it. There's no requirement that every prospective nation be given equal consideration for recognition, only equal treatment if they are recognized.
@nochannel1q2321 Жыл бұрын
@@JPMadden Israel is in favor of Gaza. Israel unilaterally moved (at times with the IDF if it was necessary) the setters out of Gaza, then withdrew, again unilaterally all of its presence in the territory.; Gaza then had an election to democratically elect a government to serve as their government. HAMAS is the opponent to the PA. They don't cooperate or even have discussions. There can be a Palestine if it's limited to Gaza because a key part of being a country is having all political power excepting those powers signed away as treaties are signed and ratified. My description of how a country gets to be a counter doesn't have different sets of how to become a country. In international relations everything is an opt in. If you agree to be bound by the CWC it's because you choose to sign it and then ratify it so it becomes a law binding your country to obeying it. If you don't agrtee to a treaty, like the Treaty on Nuclear Proliferation allows you to be a fully lawly nuclear weapons profliferator and unlike the laws of the country in question it's perfectly legal. International law is opt-in only. If you don't like something a lot of peoples wish you didn't like they can complain, but they can't make your country do as is said or take you to the ICC. Being a country is full control over your territory in a sovereign status the status grows in acceptance in beginning formal diplomatic relations with other countries. There aren't alternative methods of becoming a country.
