BIAB - MM Kettle 35l
Batch Size : 22 L

4 kg - Extra Pale Maris Otter® Malt 3.4 EBC (...
300 g - Cara Gold Malt 15.5 EBC (6.8%)
110 g - Wheat Malt 4.1 EBC (2.5%)
Hops (148 g)
30 min - 6 g - Magnum - 12% (7 IBU)
15 min - 15 g - Olicana - 6.1% (6 IBU)
15 min - 15 g - Progress - 6.25% (6 IBU)
5 min - 20 g - Olicana - 6.1% (4 IBU)
Hop Stand
15 min hopstand @ 80 °C
15 min - 30 g - Olicana - 6.1% (2 IBU)
15 min - 12 g - Progress - 6.25% (1 IBU)
Dry Hops

Lovely looking colour on your beer. Never heard of Olicana. Always cool to be able to use a new hop, even if you don't think you'll use it again. Sounds like a very tasty beer. Thanks for sharing. Cheers mate 🍻

I also have never heard of that hop, Golden Ale is a pleasant style and I’d imagine suit your springs up there anyway good vid. Cheers 🍻

Great video, mate. Golden ale is an underrepresented style here in Australia but I agree that it’s a great choice for the warmer months. It’s a shame that the olicana didn’t impart the characteristics that you were hoping for. Cheers!

Solid recipe for sure. I'd not heard of Olicana hops until this video. How fitting that that your "mystery" packet of hops turned out to be Olicana! You mentioned Cascade and a clean yeast like US-05 as possibilies for future versions of this recipe. Good choices. Great video. Cheers!🍺

Have you tried propagating yeast from bottles? Butty Bach, Proper Job, Fullers Bengal Lancer and 1845 are bottled with the primary yeast and I have had success growing the yeast with all of them. Put a bottle in the fridge for a day or two, decant most of the beer, swirl the last few cm's into a 360ml 1.020 starter and scale up from here. 1.040 SG is typically recommended for starters, but 1.020 is gentler on the yeast.

Good vid as always. I’ve actually just purchased the 25 litre kettle from the malt miller, just wondering do you use any ptfe tape on the ball lock valve and thermometer or have you just screwed them in? I had been tempted by Olicana hops but maybe I’ll hold fire ordering some and go with something else! 👍

I absolutely love the colour. Need to brew a spring or summer ale ready for the better weather. I’ve got 220g of tropical England hops from crossmyloof no idea what’s in them,similar idea it sounds like. Nice one cheers 👍🍻

I agree some of the descriptions of the newer UK hop varieties are a bit optimistic- i dont get the tropical flavours and aromas they talk about - but they are great hops. If they were more realistic with the descriptions people might be less disappointed. I brewed a golden ale with Jester and Olicana recently and it was great.
