Thank you for your service brother. Same thing happened with me. When I found this out, I was at the Mets Phillies game that was the only major national event going on that night. It was amazing. Now, all these years later, I’m a CTN on a sub in the US Navy. I don’t think I would’ve made that decision without that experience at that game

Beesley...another great reaction.....please don't be so concerned about walking on egg shells or offending anyone when reacting to history. Even the most tragic events need to be talked about, especially by the generations that were to young to remember. History forgotten is history repeated, often to our detrement. Keep up the excellent work.

I was 26 and teaching D.C. HS kids. My homeroom student's sister was on the plane that hit the Pentagon. The city went into lockdown. Police escorted our students home. I spent the day in shock, calling kids families when I could get phone service, packing extra snacks for every kid's ride home, talking to the students, reassuring. I couldn't react to 911 until I got home - then to a bar. My friend went to 13 funerals. I remember all the bad, and have every newspaper and magazine from the time. What I remember most? We Americans make $hit happen QUICK. We come together IMMEDIATELY. Our spirit always wins.

9-11 is my birthday. I'm not happy when anyone gets killed, but there was definitely some closure with this announcement for America and especially those who lost loved ones on that horrible fateful day. His death doesn't make up for (or bring back) the thousands of innocent people who were lost, but I totally understand how there could be celebrations. As a side note, he died May 2, 2011 (their time not ours). May is the 5th month. So May 2, 2011 can be added together as 9-11. 5+2+2 and then 11

I was in college getting ready for finals. I got the notification on my phone and I just fell into a chair. I was around a lot of other students, studying, and the air changed immediately. We remember 9/11 and I think a lot of people had sort of given up (not sure that it the right phrase) and it was a massive shock. There was very little studying done that night but so many USA chants and people had changed into red, white and blue within seconds.

Your introduction was right on point and compassionate. Especially for not having been aware of it when young. On 9/11 I was in Washington DC and after the plane hit the Pentagon and another plane was thought to be on the way to the Capitol or the White House, the fighter jets right outside of the city where flying right above the trees. I was walking in the street and could see the faces of the pilots. Scary.

I was almost 15 when this happened and I remember watching this game on espn, it was the nationally televised game of the week. All of the sudden the crowd starts to react (this is at the dawning of social media so word was spreading). I feel this. I've been living with the philosophy (?) that maybe it's not exactly moral to be wishing ill on people, but it is a fact that the world would be safer if some people were dead. So when people like that, who have and would do seriously vile acts, die, it's like the relief that at least one dangerous threat is gone.

Disclaimer: I'm an American who doesn't know anything about baseball. So, real question, why do night games on Sunday in the first place, when most people have to be up early for work the next day? It would make more sense to start that late on a Saturday when most people can sleep in the next day, but on a Sunday? They could have it in the late afternoon and still have it be early afternoon on the west coast. So... why? And speaking of time zones, if the game was taking place on the west coast, would it have been at 5pm so people on the east coast could watch it live at 8pm? Sorry, I have so many questions.

I was about 8 or 9ish with 9/11 happened. I have a genetic disorder and at the time I had to have yearly appointments in the morning at a place around 2hrs away. Traditionally about halfway there we would stop and get breakfast at a buffet. It was there when we saw the news about what happened. It is hard to describe the atmosphere at the hospital I typically went to. It was heavy and dark. It felt like all hope had been sucked out of the place. I was in High School when he was killed. I saw that the president was going to make an important announcement so I stayed up late on a school night. The next day at school it didn't feel like the typical "I don't want to be here" atmosphere. Students were smiling and hugging one another and even some did small USA chants. Never had that school felt so alive and happy before.

I remember hearing about it in middle school. In middle school, we had a thing called channel 1 news that the whole school watched for like the last 30 minutes of school. For the past week, they had been covering the story, so when they said they got him, that was the first I had heard of it. Still, it just seemed like more random news and I really didn’t get the gravity of the situation until many years later. Even so, that bit of news stuck out just because there was such a heavy emphasis on it in the buildup and fallout of the event. It stayed in the news for a while and that is perhaps y I remembered it. Not because I understood the significance, but because of the emphasis placed on it.

Alabama had been hit hard by tornadoes on April 27 and we were without power since that day. We had no cell service either so we had no idea what was going on in the world. Our power miraculously came on & I immediately turned on the tv. This was what they were announcing that second. It really felt like a celebration! Finally having power & this.

Off topic question here(and kinda off brand for the channel), but I was wondering if you'd heard of, and what your thoughts were, on CANZUK?

It actually wasnt the "only show in town".... WWE was actually putting on one of their major Pay Per Views that night. So... yes while not a major sport, it is a large event.

I'm from California, was just surfing the web and the news started popping up. Was like holy shit! Went down stairs, I asked my dad and step mom if they had heard the news. They're like what? Osama Bin Laden is dead. Then called a friend who already had heard and wanted to hang out. So I drove to his pad, got a sandwich at Subway on the way, asked the girl working there. Have you heard? She's like what? Osama Bin Laden is dead, and she gave me a big smile. You may have called it revenge, but I call it justice.

I remember this day like it was yesterday, I was on my way to school, I was in middle school at the time, I had missed the bus that morning, my dad and I were just pulling into the school parking lot when the announcer came on and said that Osama Bin Laden was confirmed killed. I didn’t understand because I was only 3 when 9/11 happened, but the more I grew up, the more I came to understand what was really going on. I’m proud to be an American and always will be. God bless the USA

Due to severe pneumonia I was in the hospital on a ventilator, in a medical coma. By the time I came out of it, it was old news and not being discussed. It took some time before I learned about it, purely by chance. I think I must have been about the only adult in the city who didn’t know we’d killed Bin Laden in the meantime.

I will never forget the sorrow Americans felt together on September 11th of 2001 and anyone alive at the time can likely tell where they were when they heard the news. The same was true for the night of May 1st of 2011 only an opposite sentiment of being together as a nation, proud not defeated. I think America is unique in the way we join with each other. Tears well up, people will sing for the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Absolutely it was a celebration. That moment it didn’t matter if your man. Women. White Spanish Asian. Or black. You really didn’t have to be American. But for Americans it was one of the times that there was not one single difference between any of us. And we could hug and celebrate with total strangers because the common bond was what we felt on 9/11 and having eliminated bin laden was just a relief. We avenged all the innocent people that lost there life that day.

I was busy with my young son that day so I couldn't even really tell you if I was out or if I was at home but I come from a long line of military and we couldn't have been happier to hear the news I've had friends already died in this war the sad part was being from a military family I understood taking out Osama Bin Laden wouldn't stop the terrorist they have plenty of people set up to take his place unfortunately terrorism isn't going to end but it's also a lot of the reason we have so much Firepower especially since World War 1 but I want to thank you for you and your girlfriend showing so much respect for our country
