British Highschoolers Reunite! You’re going to Korean Military Service!!

All Korean men do Military Service, and over the years I've visited friends at their army bases, heard horror stories about how difficult boot camp is, and wondered what it would really be like.
The British High Schoolers have now graduated, and are the exact age that most Korean men go to boot camp. For the past few months we've been in contact with the Korean Navy, planning our most ambitious series yet.
We're taking the boys back to Korea, and this time they're going to the Korean Navy Boot Camp. We've been given permission to film the entire experience under one condition: we don't get any special treatment, everything is authentic. Little did we know this would be one of the hardest things we've ever done.

저희 영국 고등학생들이 어느덧 졸업을 하고, 대부분의 한국 남자분들이 입대하는 나이가 되었어요. 그래서 지난 몇달간, 한국 국방부와 연락을 하며, 지금까지 중 가장 야심 찬 시리즈를 준비해왔답니다.
그리고 오랜 준비 끝에 드디어 학생들을 데리고 한국으로 돌아갑니다. 해군 신병교육대로 입대하는데요.
이때까진 몰랐습니다. 저희가 지금까지 해왔던 것 중 가장 힘든 과정이 저흴 기다리고 있을줄은요...

@@cherry-nw1sl Yes. He auditioned for the vocal position of the Navy Military Band last January and passed it. He choose the Navy bc not a lot of people goes there since it's very tough but it also means that the process is faster and he wanted to enlist early so that he can go out early as well. He's the first Kpop idol to enter the Navy Military Band. Second to enter the Korean Navy (The first one is a member of Day6). Minho from SHINee was on the Marine Corps which is another branch of the Navy or smtg like that but not the same as Taeyong.

Served 2 years after 10 months of training and I think it's a great thing to go through tbh. Going through such an uncomfortable environment as a man, woman or whatever you are, really opens your eyes to the horrible nature of life itself and it can either break you or shape you as an individual

Not sure what it was like in the UK but a lot of the general public in America are aware of required military service in Korea. When BTS announced their hiatus to enlist, it was all over the news. The media here didn't know about that until then.

What I'm saying is that they will be in a privileged position whichever path they decide to take. This is not the ordinary training, this UDT, one of the renowned special forces in South Korea. How KE pulled this one off, I struggle to fathom since training methods of special forces is a matter of national secrecy. I'm saying this as someone who served 16 years in the Australian military.

As a Korean who's finished the mandatory military service, I have to say massive kudos to both the team and the boys (now men!) for preparing/participating in such a project and experience that is so closely linked to the normal experience of a Korean. Not only just the Korean men who do their compulsory military service, but also the women who decided to serve as one of Korea's proud soldiers! I can already tell from the teasers that everyone went through some legit military experiences and I hope they were able to take away valuable things, despite of how hard and stressful it must have been while they were at it. Hats off to everybody and again, thank you so much for spotlighting an experience that is normally difficult for anyone who is not Korean to understand.

How lovely. 😊 I am from the US and I wish we had mandatory service for our boys as well. My son was a soldier, he enlisted after his first year of university. It helped shape him into a fine young man. I also had many family members who were in different branches of the military as was my husband. So, I think that is why my son decided to also enlist. It is definitely an experience that teaches young people a lot in a small amount of time…things they just don’t learn in the same amount of time without the military experience. I am sure that the English Boys will also gain some excellent knowledge and experience from this trip to Korea.

@@MrxxVENUSxx You can’t compare the US military to the Korean military. Of all my friends and family who have enlisted in the military not one of them would even think to compare it to Korea. My son was actually deployed to the DMZ and he said it was the worst experience of his life. Basic training was like going to Disneyland compared to being there.

That army preview made me tear up. The fact that their parents and they all accepted to go through the military experience is absolutely incredible. It really is heartbreaking to see them all go through all that hardship even for a short time and even more heartbreaking to know that Korean men go through that for more than a year. Hope there wasn't any lasting physical damage to anyone and only mental and emotional growth from this experience.
