That last move was significant, they call it the Datsyuk. It was the first time players needed solid breakaway chops, because the shootout became a thing about 2 years after he scored the first one, but he was also one of the first players to shift his hips around in weird ways and use his feet as tools, or as misdirection. He’s a generation behind fedorov, has similar skills, but more smarts, and he came before Crosby by enough that Crosby was in middle school when Datsyuk won his first cup. He won’t ever have the same point totals, but Brett Hull and Wayne Gretzky both said Datsyuk would have had more points than anyone if he could have played in a league above the NHL, because he was on another level.

Datsyuk was a freak of nature, hand eye coordination, hockey IQ, and most importantly the fineness, combined to make the most impressively skilled player we’ve ever seen! Not very big, 5’11 and 195lbs, not the fastest skater, though he could turn on the afterburners, so very strong on the puck and a artist at stick handling! What made him elite, was his genius in knowing where his teammates and opponents were, where the puck was going and what he needed to do next, almost instinctively....... Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Toews Stamkos, I’ll tell you IMHO Datsyuk beats them all in his prime, totally underrated, two Stanley cups, three Selke trophies, Four lady Bing trophies and that was 15 years! Simple answer, how many highlight reels can you count for any of those players at the top of this list. Now count how many Datsyuk has.........

Datsyuk might be the best of the guys you mentioned when it comes to slowing the game down and utilizing hand-eye co-ordination. I'd actually put him #2 all-time for that behind Wayne Gretzky. He's also like Gretzky in that he was known as a gentlemanly player and he won a bunch of trophies for that. With that said, the overall impact of a player with his style was dependent on the particular era in the NHL with respect to rules enforcement. Datsyuk's first several years in the league were in the "clutch and grab" era, where defenders had more leeway to hand check, which hindered his early career. After the 2004 lockout, the rules changed to allow for more free-flowing offensive play, and he started to flourish.

Those last 2 goals are called "The Datsyuk" move because he invented it and many highly skilled players have used it since. As others have commented, it's a bit hard to compare Ovechkin and Datsyuk. Ovechkin is just an unbelievable sniper and goalscorer, a big, physical power forward. Datsyuk is a more well-rounded player, a playmaking center, but also a great defender. While Ovechkin is someone you put out on the ice for a goal, Datsyuk is someone you put out there to both defend a lead or to tie a game. Basically, he's on the ice for all key situations.
@jpbreeze444 жыл бұрын
One of the best two way forwards to play the game baby. Datsyuk is regarded as being one of, if not THE best skill player to ever be in the game. There's a small clip of Crosby trying to man him and Datsyuk almost made him fall over lmao. It's crazier when you think about his entrance into the league, it took him a few years to even get into the NHL, and he was picked *171st* overall in the sixth round in 1998. That's scraping the bottom of the barrel at that point, but Datsyuk and his teammate (Henrik Zetterberg) would be drafted the next year at a lower placement and soon become legends, at least in my eyes. He could do it all, score, pass, steal, hit, you name it. He could've produced a whole lot more but his team needed defense so he decided to work on that, he won the Selke Trophy for best defensive forward in the league 3 times in a row. If you wanna dive back into Pavel Datsyuk, there's a vid called "Pavel Datsyuk FULL NHL Career Highlights: 2001-2016" by Puckin Around, it's nearly 20 minutes but it shows his entire career, also some parts of his game that some don't know about.

These aren’t EVEN close to Pavel’s Best shots!! It’s just a lame compilation made up by some network!! Some aren’t Even in my Top 50!! If I OR a REAL Pavel fan made OUR Top 10, you’d be absolutely SPEECHLESS My friend!!
