I'm a teacher, just retired. In the three states I have taught in, we scheduled field trips for educational reasons. We would go to museums or to the local children's theater to see plays or on science field trips like the one you're watching. The students know it's all in support of what they're learning. As a social studies teacher, I took students on a trip around the state of Tennessee in 3 days and 2 nights . We stayed overnight at motels & had 1 parent chaperone for every 6-8 students. When we were learning something about each region of the state and visiting places of historic significance in the fall we did our social studies trip.. They had a journal they had to complete and turn in for a grade. Tennessee has history from its founding back in the 1600s, through the Civil war, we have history of life on the Mississippi River and in the Appalachian Mountains and in The valleys where crops and plantations were once everywhere. There are Civil War battlefields in railroad bridges built during that era that still have steam trains that run excursions for tourists. That was a lot to cover in 3 days but it was a great time. The kids & adults had to pay for nightly accommodations and food. Our school covers the cost of transportation . The school and parent-teacher volunteer group covered the cost for students whose families were not able to do so. Sports trips were handled completely separately through the athletic department. My daughter was an athlete so we did a lot of those trips too. My son was in the band. They traveled to competitions i& away sporting events by busses. The kids really look forward to those trips. In our school each grade got to do one major trip a year and then if there was something local that they wanted to do they could if the funding was available for everyone.

Your field trips are actually school trips. A field trip here is part of your class.

It said at the beginning of the video this outing was for A P E S, which I'm assuming means Advanced Placement Environmental or Ecological Science. These kids are the smarter kids in their class who take their studies seriously, so they are having fun while learning in a nearby state park. They're putting what they've learned in class, into a real world situation, which is always more interesting.

Growing up in central Florida, our field trips were theme parks, the beach, or like springs, like driving up to Silver Springs, and in high school In advance of art class, we took trips to Italy or Greece to see all the statues and paintings.

I had great field trips as a youngster. My favorite was learning about birds an and their habitats. Still a bird watcher and have volunteered through the years helping to band birds watching their migrations and as a volunteer ranger in Ct at the Audubon Center. I am 62 plus years old and this one field trip impacted my lfe for many years to come in a very environmental positive way. Just one great story in my life.😊🐦

Back in my day 60's to 70's Our field trips were to places like Museums. Greenfield Village was a great one. And the Toledo Zoo was one of my favorites. School is so different today. I have 4 young Nephews and everything is different. Same schools. Major differences.

Field trips here, vary. Most are to museums and discovery centers. If they board a school bus, its a field trip. My grandson had so many last school year, but they were mostly learning experiences. In high school, my daughter went to New York with the choir. Then to Vail Colorado to ski. My cousins grandson just returned from UK on his latest school trip.

In terms of week-long trips in school, I only got to go to some retreat in Beaford (North Devon) in Year 4, and then to an outdoorsy type place in Dartmoor in Year 6. I did go to France twice (in Year 6 and Year 9), where the first one was a retreat near Morlaix in Brittany, and the second was to Normandy which I actually enjoyed more due to the historical nature of the trip (visiting Omaha Beach as well as the Bayeux tapestry). As for the traditional day trips, the better ones for me occurred before I moved to Devon in Year 3 (I'm from Bolton, and have been back up here 10 years now), we visited Eureka! in Halifax in Reception as well as Blackpool Zoo, and then went to Tatton Park and Dunham Massey (same day) in Year 1. Apparently there were plans in College (I did Construction & The Built Environment) to take us to Dubai for a week as part of the module, but the demand wasn't there to justify getting the funding so it never happened.

Yes field trips have to have an educational component and most times they are free. Sometimes you have to pay if it’s a significant trip or something

We only had to pay if there was something "extra" - like we went to the Opera and we had to pay a portion of the ticket -- it was like $2.50 if I remember.....of course -- I'm 70 so I'm sure it would be more today! But no field trips are a "fun" part of learning hands on!! I loved 'em!!

The river i enjoy today at age 40….was a lifeless joke growing up as a kid (a factory contaminated and destroyed the wild life in the 90’s). Happy to report i was on that same river today….saw a blue-Heron bird eat a small fish…..and a big lady catch-release a Very large small-mouth bass 😂 Efforts have been made to restore the “white river” and it’s thriving again.

At the schools I went to, and that my kids now go to, the field trips have to be educational. Even if we went to an amusement park, we had to do science lessons and measure speed or something else all day long. It was super fun and much better than a classroom lesson.

My school wasn’t like that given charts and stuff we weren’t even asked about what we liked and the trip my parents were the only ones who asked me how was my experience and what did I learn. The closest epic experience I ever had in my opinion was the caverns and a science museum (we only had two places to go to you would get lucky if a museum tour actually stopped in the only museum that we had and nobody goes to it they say it’s a western museum but it’s the most uneventful western museum you can ever imagined)the other kids didn’t care they were on their phones and chatting with their friends (if I’m being honest I felt more educated at the field trips on just these two places than I did at school i only had one good science teacher that encouraged us to do science projects everyday and I was learning and English teachers who inspired me to try to write stories to go along with me reading books. Due to my autism I couldn’t do math I did do history and we had no history teacher they were just football coaches who had no clue what to do all they kept repeating was ww2 I get it’s important but when you do that lesson 6 times by 6 coaches is just wrong they never even taught us the USA constitution i only know the second amendment and the first amendment and nothing else and the only reason I know these two things is because I had grandparents in the army, marines and Air Force. I was only taught by the tv documentaries and books on history and dinosaurs and animals in the hospital in my younger years i practically could name dinosaurs in alphabetical order . But had I not been autistic I think I could’ve skipped a grade or two but I still keep my autism. (Fun fact-Dinosaurs names have been used Latin names now we found so many dinosaurs were now using Russian names)

I believe the field trips in my children's school district had to have an educational aspect to them. So usually places like a nature center or zoo. They are paid for by the school district. The end of the school year trips are different. Those have a cost and are usually to an amusement park or someplace fun like that. Some schools will do a big destination school trip going to places like Washington DC at student's expense. I went to New York City on a school trip back in the 90s.

I live in Central Florida. Many of our field trips back in the 90's included going to places like Disney World, but there was always a catch. It had to be an educational trip. So the students were always given a packet of about 2-5 pages with questios we'd have to answer, based on what we'd learned in the parks. Questions like,. "What was Ronald Regan quoted to say after the devastation of the Challenger explosion in the Hall of Presidents?" "How many flamingoes can be found in their enclosure in Animal Kingdom?" "What was the first animated film to be entirely produced at Disney-MGM Studios?" "Which character from another Disney animated film makes a cameo on Peter Pan's flight?" Most of the time, there'd be a couple of over-achievers who actually spent half of their field trip finding out the answers to these questions. And when we all gathered to meet for lunch, the rest of us would spend our lunch time sharing and copying answers from each other, before heading back out to enjoy the rest of the day 😆

Same with us, like we would write about how theme parks changed central Florida and boosted the economy and tourism. 😂

The best part of a field trip was the coach bus drive back and forth with your class. Nobody gave a shit about the educational part at the end. I live in NY and we went to Philly and back in 1 day and the most memorable part was the guy who clogged the toilet in the back seat of the bus on the ride back. He was called shitty McGee for years haha We were suppose to go to DC the next year but it was 2001 or 2002 and we weren't allowed to do any trips that involved tunnels or bridges.

You can also give a hyperactive kid coffee and it slows them down, I know this because when I was in grade school my doctor told me to go to the principal's office to get a cup of coffee, I hated it because it was black coffee and no sugar.

NOTE : the bus that the kids are riding on is NOT Yellow. That means it's NOT an "official" School Bus. Those kids probably attend a Private School which owns its own bus. It may also explain why they're better behaved than kids from "Public Schools".
