Brits Try American Food | Hot Dog Drive Thru + Meteor Crater Flagstaff | Brits in America Part 13

In this America travel vlog, we discover why Flagstaff is the best location for visitors travelling to the USA.
After leaving our boondocking spot in Sedona, where we were living our very best 'vanlife', we made our way north towards the city of Flagstaff. We try out a hog dog drive-through called Dog Haus where Alex tried a chilli dog and tater tots for the first time. Following our American foodie feast, we excitedly made our way towards the Meteor Crater located near Flagstaff, facing insane weather conditions both on the drive and at the crater!

In 2017 we left home with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a sustainable travel lifestyle happen! We are now living our dream as digital nomads and want to inspire you to create your own story, whatever it may be!
After 5 years of aimless, yet enjoyable, backpacking around the world we found ourselves in New York City battling with depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on. After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle.
Our time spent battling depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. In our vlogs, we talk openly and honestly about our travel experiences, the digital nomad life and depression. We hope our videos can help to inspire you to create a life that makes you happy!

Also, hot dogs are very different than sausages. I don't know why you expect a sausage when you're getting a hot dog. If you disagree, check into how each is made and the ingredients.

Yep, hot dogs are usually made of scraps of meat from the animal, they don’t know what else to do with, but grind it all up, and shape it into a sausage.

If you want to try a classic hot dog for cheap, then go to a Costco food court. 1.50 for a hot dog and drink. I like to keep it simple. Some ketchup and that’s it. You can add the other stuff later, but if the hot dog is not good on its own, then forget about it.

My family were in NZ driving to Auckland and it started raining ...just a little bit to start with...as we kept driving getting closer to the city day turned to night and it went pitch black at midday ...cars were stopping on major highways pulling over under bridges as it got really dangerous to drive...my mum who was driving pulled over under a bridge and we literally waited for 20 minutes for the storm to go over...when we got to our accommodation all the tv stations and news outlets were saying it was the worst storm they had had in about 10 years. ...not something I’d like to experience too many times again

1:20 That distinct building shape makes me believe that was a part of a hotdog chain in US named “Wienerschnitzel”, even though it is now under a different name. “Wienerschnitzel” started in Southern California in the 1960s. I can never find out any relationship between that hotdog chain with Vienna, or pork chop. Look at the menu, Emperor Franz-Joseph would be rolling over in his grave. Anyway, I am hungry now, let me go make myself a home made hotdog. All-beef jumbo hotdog, plus lots of fresh onion, and ketchup. Yummy!

Hi Guys, another great video, lol both of you always make me laugh so much lol . . . . .anyways, me being an Ex-Trucker, and with seeing that wind you faced, and the fact you asked us to share something . . . . . .Well here goes . . . . . .15th October 1987, mid-evening, i was leaving home, ready to do an overnight trip down to Hampshire, and Sussex, to collect a Truck load of engineering parts, about 30 tons of it, but just before i left on the tv, Michael Fish came on with the Weather, saying a pretty big storm was heading that way during the early hours, and that one lady had called in to him and said there was a Hurricane headed that way, and he said, `No don`t worry, i can assure you it isn`t a hurricane` . . . . . . . The rest is history . . . .1/4million trees blown down, trucks cars and everything else buildings wise, had taken a hard hit, Debris everywhere, i am sure at some point you would of heard of it . . . . . was the most scariest night of my driving career . . . .and luckily, no damage to me or the truck, even though i had to stop at one point, to face into the wind, to stop it taking the truck over sideways. Michael Fish, the weatherman, has always been forever remembered for that Cock up lolol . . .just thought i would share it lol Safe journey you two, stay warm and enjoy, look forward to the next video. :)

I assume you guys have been to Grand Canyon before, right? If that is the case, going to that windy big hole in the ground instead is a reasonable alternative. I know you guys are not quite a fan of the so called tourist attraction. However, if you have never been to the Grand Canyon, I think that was quite a loss. That HUGE crack is a natural marvel of mother earth itself, and there is only one. Comparably that hole is just a quite insignificant dent by an outer space object, possibly just one of many.

"It's not a Sausage." No it's not @.@ Who told you otherwise? They lied. I don't like hot dogs but I do admit that sometimes I get in the mood for them. They have to be cooked over a fire so they get a bit of char on them. I would say they are popular because it's cheap, easy, nostalgia food. Summers at the lake, at a baseball game (Is where they became really popular) Birthday parties where you gotta feed 25 kids on the cheap. Hot dogs are pure childhood and nothing else. Public bathrooms are like that because of Health and Safety codes, mainly fire. You'll have to take it up with the government. Americans pretty much grew used to them after 2 or 3 years of school . Egads it was windy as heck! Y'all looked like you were about to blow away. IT was pretty windy that day but thankfully not that bad here in south AZ. 10 out of 10 for those gifts for your dad. ^.^

Chili Cheese Dog definitely the wrong part of the country for that get one of those the next time you're down south. That or a Slaw Dog in North Carolina. I've never had one of those with Green Chiles though that's definitely a Southwest touch. And they're not meant to go with a "quality" sausage of any kind kinda like dirty water dogs here in NYC almost nobody pays for the "hot sausage" upgrade at the street carts not even the tourists who buy it.

I don't know why British people are so uptight about the whole toilet thing. No one is going to make any effort into looking through those small slits to gaze upon you taking a shit. Maybe if you were in the fifth grade, and yes I can tell you stories about that but in the adult world, no one cares to look through those slots. Even if someone wants to know for some reason, if the bathroom is empty, they look for the feet not through the slots. Relax guys. You will have a better poo.

You guys really missed out on going to the Grand Canyon, it is absolutely breathtaking. Oan I think that the whole point of an hotdog is that it is a cheap cut of meat, the toppings are what makes it. In the south we do what we call “all the way” which really only means mustard (yellow) onions, and chili. It’s amazing if done properly.

Men in the US typically aren’t embarrassed to use the restrooms. Most men cam up in a time where men showered together in high school right after physical education. Girls also showered together in school. Be proud of what you got and also people don’t stop and stare at you while you are using the bathroom.

I've been watching your reaction to American food and I feel I have to add my thoughts. If anyone goes to another country and partakes in popular middle class or low cost foods then expect to be disappointed. As an American, I hate all the American food cliches. I hate Mcdonalds, Starbucks, common sliced loaf bread, Pepsi, Coke, hotdogs, pretty much all grocery store processed foods. However, in most American cities, I live in Atlanta, have a good independent coffee shop, and countless independent restaurants. I think America does do good ice cream and good ethnic foods from Mexico, Italy, and Asia are easily found. Baked goods are hit or miss for some odd reason, maybe because we tend to want things on the cheap. I get your sarcasm and I have laughed at your observations. Oh and American cheese is possibly the most offensive thing we have done to the culinary world. Good cheese can be found in the states but sadly not as easily as in Europe and at a much higher cost because it is considered artisan and imported. Love the channel and keep on vloging.

Hot Dogs are a baseball park food, but we do hot dogs for cookout and picnics too. Anything is better with a good chili on it, my husband was a hunter and I made him Deer Chili with ground venison, so good.

Speaking as an American --I fucking hate the bathroom stalls in America. They aren't all like that, but they almost always are like. You're not supposed to look around in bathrooms as a bit of social etiquette, but a better solution is to have toilet stalls that have total privacy.

Oh my gosh, how I have missed you two. Been working like mad and then sick. Alex talking about public toilets made me laugh so hard. Even using the toilets in the UK I never thought about that difference because I was too busy being fascinated by how seemingly every door latch was unique and how to work them.

You're so right about the public bathrooms. We have no idea why there's spaces between the stalls.

Lol hahaha I agree on the bathrooms here in the US about the gaps. I been to Japan and Shanghai also south Korea and there bathrooms are clean and no gaps to see😂 which is good. Also the windiest condition I been in is during November here in northern virginia plus it snowed and I hate driving in snow. But all in all where you 2 are is the windiest I would say that's to windy but luckily that camper van is heavy

Flagstaff can get really cold at night in the winter because of its elevation (2100 m). -20°C is normal winter night, and it can get quite a bit colder.

It's pretty windy (and cold) at the top of Mount Washington where I've been twice. The highest wind speed recorded there was 231 mph.
