That was never the focus. Brock was 2nd in the NFL in air yards per attempt last season. People who thought CMC was that important to the 49er offense never had any clue what they were talking about. Every RB can succeed in the OZS. That's why it's the only scheme teams use now.
@mko0lpmko0lp2 ай бұрын
@@puckutubesux7356 ? The air yards last year came from play action though. Suck up the LBs w/ play action and then hit on those in-breaking routes to Aiyuk to the tune of 18 yards per catch. Also, OZS is not the only scheme teams use. The Lions, Eagles, Chiefs, etc primarily use a gap scheme. But because it's a copycat league, there are no "pure" systems. Ravens mix power and gap with a sprinkle of zone.

21:34 This season is so interesting. Brian Flores has put the entire nfl on notice with how he is disguising coverages, but also there are so many new faces in different defensive coaching staffs that I believe everyone is trying to reinvent defense along the Flores lines to keep up with the explosive plays we saw last season from the Niners and other Shanahan schemes. This look here is almost an inverted Tampa 2 to combat the Niners favorite play with the Aiyuk dig, post combo. They essentially try to throw off the QB by showing the middle field closed with the three high defenders, “eliminating the post” pre-snap but in reality that middle safety is just replacing the job of the mid high zone LB that would normally have to fly back and find the dig with his back to the QB. It’s smart because they know that Purdy has taken the dig in that “third window” over the open post in the past, and he can sometimes lose the safety if he is confident with his presnap looks. It’s unfortunate for everyone else that he is improving so substantially week after week.
@RegularPersonality2 ай бұрын
29:24 they keep trying to take away the in-cutting routes and begging Purdy to bomb it deep but you can’t keep doing that if there’s no rush and the QB is as ice cold as Purdy, man. Sheesh
@RegularPersonality2 ай бұрын
30:52 this defense is very interesting, man. It’s like they tailor it to each DB’s strong suit, which is cool, but it can get stretched easily since the safeties have to read the in cuts and they only have one shutdown man corner in Gonzalez. It’s nice in concept but not against such a loaded roster.

I think the reason Purdy didn't hit deebo and instead threw to kittle was the pressure off the right side and the DB lurking by the goal line also on the right side. With the pressure close and having to throw middle/middle right of his body his arm could be hit a lot easier without a guaranteed TD so going deep left corner gave him the perfect amount of time to throw that lob. Also its kittle so I'd trust him for a jump ball. That's why Brocks awesome cause he's risky when he needs to be

As a former QB, it's hilarious to me how fans think that all this thought is happening while playing QB in a matter of 2-3 seconds when it's really more of a read and react. A lot of where you're going to throw is based on pre-snap look and then reading your keys. One thing Jimmy G did is to start the play looking the opposite side of the side he was going to throw to. He would literally practice that. He had no idea if it actually worked or not (which is why he threw so many INTs to LBs and Safeties). Sometimes QBs pump fake without knowing if the CB is actually looking because the CB has shown on tape that he'll peek in the backfield and bite on fakes.

21:08 And that is *exactly* why Shanahan called this play. The Niners saw on multiple plays earlier in the game that middle safeties or others in a similar role were cheating down onto the crossing routes and ignoring the deep post routes in those concepts, so clearly they had Purdy look for those opportunities later. The Patriots' defense clearly game-planned to focus attention onto the deep crossing routes that the Niners run a lot, especially when it was Aiyuk running them. That's a big reason why Peppers dropped back to be in position for that interception at the end - once he saw there was nothing coming deep from his own side, he was prepped to drop deep and cross-key in case someone like Aiyuk was coming from the other side on a crossing route. That's also what was going on with the coverage at 27:54. It was an inverted Tampa-2, with the corners playing the deep halves and the safeties in the intermediate middle - again, to focus on those crossing routes.
