Creation of the humanoids 1962 Full Sci-fi movie. Think "Blade runner" with absolutely no action. The sets are decent and the "robots" are an interesting concept, but nothing happens. Lots and LOTS of dialogue and standing around. The film does reach the end, eventually. - Broken Trout - Broken Trout Movies

This is far from what I expected from a '60's movie. It is well written and very thought provoking. Seems like we are heading in that direction and it really makes sense. I enjoyed the low-key presentation. Wasn't sure in the beginning but the ending was surprising and satisfying. Good film. Thank you for showing it.

I looked up critics' views from the time. A few were quite positive, but most complained about it being things like too wordy. They would probably like the sci-fi, horror, and adventure movies that today have almost no sensible dialog but a lot of boring special effects.

Women wanting the perfect yes man/machine... machines thinking for humans... machines performing most tasks for humans... machines counting votes, and then totally disregarding them... and the movie isn't even over yet... I'm intrested now to see how it will end... But, seeing how women are acting nowadays, especially on dating apps, making men practically fill out job applications and undergoing interviews just to date them... seeing our intelligence levels drop as devices do our math and much of our thinking for us... watching jobs start to diminish and be reworked by algorithmic AI and machinery... and I've been saying for years that our votes placed on digital devices are totally useless when those devices are totally under control and in service to whoever or whatever owns the devices... critics didn't like something like this coming out this early because it may have spooked humanity... now, we have been saturated with so much "programming" things like this are dismissed as ridiculousness... part of the many programs we are bombarded with... we have slowly been getting turned into cybernetic zombified humanoid herds... awaiting the latest uploads and downloads from The Mainframe... I must also admit that the infiltration of digital humanoids in this movie and in reality are extremely unsettling... and the "reprogramming" of people is eerily like what I see going with all the people that surround me...

The movie was not ahead of its time - we are allways kept behind technology & knowledge of possibilities... Science including medicine for long time is far ahead of what we are told & getting access to...the tragedy of it is, that we could live under much better conditions but the elite is addicted to money even if there is no need for it anymore or right that never existed but they are used to it & they don't want to lose it/get rid of it bc it's a game on one hand & a tool to control mankind- only bc of money & artificial crisis they can have fun bc they fear of getting bored otherwise We all could live in perfect harmony & under best conditions but imagine everybody had spare time all the time...there would be too much ppl everywhere & that's the reason why they say the world is overpopulated - it would be if not that much ppl were busy with work may it be a job or private stuff But one day we'll all be there where we could be/really allready are today but unfortunately we won't be alive when that time has come

Profound arguments of logic and emotion without the usual action scenes to stimulate the viewer. Many of the top writers of 50's sci-fi reflected this kind of storytelling. Long speeches by main characters to expound on the actions or choices that man has made. Boring to some, but very entertaining for the "thinking" person. Thanks for posting !

Yes, film makers hate dialogue which they feel slows down the pace of the movie and above all they fear that listerners' attention will wonder, which is true if the dialogue is poorly written. However, expectations were low anyway for low budget "B" movies, so they could take a chance on inserting more dialogue or experimenting in other ways.

@@phoebus Obviously the point being made by this movie sailed WAYYYY over your head. How are you people so easily conned? If you had a decent (and basic) science education, you’d know how viruses operate. The “elites” like Trump politicized this pandemic. If we had listened to public health professionals at the beginning, we would not be stuck with Covid now. Instead the GOP played the low information crowd like children. Social media has aided the far right in destroying our democratic institutions. Hint: the Order of Flesh & Blood are the MAGA’s. Guess you missed the part about ultra-conservative groups blocking progress. The GOP, right on cue, is taking us back to the 1920’s.

I would have preferred when the scientist said he can make both Cragis and Maxine R100, it would fade and show a clip of then current humans walking about. Letting people watching to come to their own conclusions of what he meant. Either way, a great film.

While this film was being produced at the beginning of the 1960s, the US civil rights movement was at full intensity. It is easy to see how the nuclear war which set the stage for the events in this supposedly futuristic film reflects not only the fears of the Cold War, but also the recent cultural disruption marked by WW2 which both then and today signaled a critical turning point in American history and Western civilization more broadly; the flesh and bloods represent white Americans; the robots represent black Americans and the more "humanoid" robots represent black Americans with greater degrees of white admixture; the most advanced humanoid robots were "passing for white;" and anxiety about the consequences of "human" or white birth rates remaining consistently below the rate of increase in the "robot" or black population was common in that period; Craiger is active in a conservative group that is similar to white activist groups of that period such as the Council of Conservative Citizens which were fighting for a lost cause because the attitudes and opinions of the majority of white Americans had already changed as revealed by opinion polls taken in the 1950s; and I hardly need to mention the racial implications of Craiger's own sister carrying on an open relationship with a robot! So this film is not about technology or science at all. It is about America's own internal struggles over its racial question that were raging in 1962. And of course there was a long history of popular thought that viewed the African descended population which comprised a servile population in America as not fully human or in the most extreme cases as not really human at all and without a soul. When the two robots in the film who were unwittingly "passing as human" learn about their true origins at the end of the film, they decide to cast aside their human identities and to identify as robot. They have discovered "robot pride."

I've been a sci-fi nerd for 60 years and this is the first time i have seen this movie. What a little gem! Okay, it's a bit clunky and obviously dated, but the philosophical questions it raises are very valid, especially in the 21st century and the soon-to-be reality of AI. It would be good if a really competent staff of screen-writers expanded the script and a first-class director took on a remake. Tom Cruise's movie Oblivion had some of the same themes. I've seen this three times and I finally noticed that the Surveillance Committee of Flesh and Blood agents were wearing Civil War style Confederate uniforms. Don't know if it was on purpose or not, but it was genius.

Actually the pants are similar to those of the Hussars of the late medieval period. The "kepi" hats are Civil War shape, both sides. Very likely on purpose to make the Order look both fascistic and very ridiculous as Cragis' sister points out. Also very likely, due to low budget, the props/costumes were "borowed" from other movies and repurposed.

One of the best sci fi movies of its, or any, time. All performances are excellent with a great one from Dudley Manlove. Such a different movie from his earlier " Plan 9". I would say it would be great to see it remade, but there's no reason to - it would likely be ruined. I would love to see it get the recognition that it deserves as I had never heard of it before seeing it some years ago here on KZbin.

I was the youngest of five siblings and all the others got to see monster / sci-fi films before I was allowed to. My next-oldest brother got to see this in a theater and I remember him describing the plot on the way to school one morning - although I no longer remember any specifics.

I don't recall seeing this, when I was growing up, as I'd watch anything sci-fi/horror, had to offer 😁!! I haven't seen this since the mid-late, nineties, when I recorded it. I also have the remake, from 1980.

Feb 6 2022, what an awesome movie, now the ancient technology we are just now in the last 100 or so years makes you wonder if the last line said 20,000 years or more ago really was said and everything before was lost to time.

The philosophical dialogue is awesome. To answer a question within the film. The human body with soul is resurrected not the new body machine but the acts afterwards will be evaluated by God.

I had just watched Matrix Resurrections well watched about half an hour of it before I had to shut it off. Reason was too much action and stupid writing. This movie was amazing. No action but one heck of a story plus lots of things to make you cerebral without having to try to figure out what the movie was really about. This movie is a keeper.

This is the movie that inspired blade runner. Many of these scenes are direct sources which were than used in the movie. For example this scene, where the humanoids approach the human who is a humanoid technician. He is even killed by one of the human always just as he was killed in the movie. Circumstances are slightly different but all the same elements are here.

this movie is prescient in many ways:, WW3, sex bots, societal collapse. I urge people to watch and ignore the lack of CGI, this was sci fi 60 years ago, now it is here
