Great review of both vehicles. I own a new Bronco and have done off road in Moab with one. I'm fond of Jeeps, but the reality is that all that "engagement" you feel after 200 miles of highway driving before getting to your destination is downright fatiguing!

@@alwayson999 Well having taken a 3 day trip out to Utah and 3 days back in my Gladiator I can confirm it will wear you out. Solid axles are what they are. They are better at rock crawling than IFS so there is a trade off. The older I get though the more I want a more refined driving experience on pavement. I've just always been a Jeep guy. I like that "Military Feel" when I get in it and drive, but Vehicles like the 4Runner and bronco are starting to catch my eye. Jeeps will always be solid axle and you can only do so much to make them "Refined" on road.

I'm not a Jeep guy but my wife is on her 3rd Jeep,a new 2 door JL and she won't even look at a Bronco. I have 2 Corvettes for fun but have to admit that the Jeep is entertaining at much lower speeds. Her last Jeep was a 2012 JK 4 door that we drove all over the country for 212000 trouble free miles and was a great vehicle!

Well equipped versions of both I think I’d still choose the Bronco. Both should retain solid resale value, the jeep always does, but once the longevity tests of the Bronco come around I imagine it will be a favorite amongst the off road community. After driving several wranglers, I don’t even have to drive the Bronco to know it’s probably far superior on the road.

@Dobbies Revenge back seat room in those is horrendous not to mention it’s far uglier than the other two. Older FJs are cool, but not sure the price tag on them merits the miles accrued. I concur, the IFS on the Bronco makes it FAR superior on the road and let's face it, I don't care how many folks scream offroad, about 90% of us use our vehicles as daily drivers. Off road I believe both vehicles are equally capable ( Broncos approach, break over and departure angles are a bit better) but its the ON ROAD comfortability that makes the Bronce superior

@@BrooklynNY1979 until you do more than a rough fire trail in the bronco. Then break an A arm or cv axle. If basic overlanding and fire roads are the hardest you do then go bronco. Anything harder you need a solid front axle. Or a ultra 4 buggy lol. Tons of videos of broncos breaking a arms and cv axles on KZbin. And I say that while admitting I actually like the bronco and it’s a good choice for many people. Ive had 5 jeeps. A Scrambler, 90 Wrangler (was an extreme rock crawler) 92 Cherokee, 02 Cherokee, 01 Grand Cherokee. Also had 5 Broncos. 74, 77, 78, 84, now an 86. I give both manufactures did a great job with these vehicles capabilities. But theres way to much technology in these two vehicles, which were designed to be basic, inexpensive, spartan vehicles. I definitely prefer the older vehicles and upgrade them myself. Fyi. Those corner fender guides are there to connect a cable from it, to the roof. It acts as a guide to keep branches from smacking the windshield.

I have a 2014 2 dr Jeep with 110k miles. Only reason I’d trade mine in is to get a 4 door. The bronco is intriguing, but it does look borderline too big even without test driving it. You mentioned the Wrangler was designed best for rock crawling. I wonder if it would do as well as a Bronco in baja. The Bronco at high speed in sand is a ton of fun! Jeep came out with the Mojave trim on the Gladiator and it's setup with different shocks etc geared more toward Baja style off roading, but honestly being a Jeep guy if I lived out west instead of the east coast and my primary fun was ripping through the desert I would have an IFS setup all day long vs a solid axle. Solid axle is just King on the rocks at crawl speeds though.

I’ve driven some really nice and new handling sports cars and performance sedans…and I don’t get it. When I drove the JL Jeep, outside of my early style (now fixed) loose steering gearbox…the JL handles and drives better than many normal sedans and trucks in the last 20 years. So if I start swirling and spitting wine out, does the wine’s supposed shortcomings become more apparent? If I have to concentrate that hard on the very minor differences …it’s likely not worth your concern. The turning radius and narrower track of the JL is a nice margin of safety to have depending where you drive. The narrower the shelf road, the tighter the trail, the sharper the turn…the JL seems to excel here vs the Bronco. And if I don’t care about bigger…I’m gonna go a little bigger to have more payload and just go full size SUV or Truck.

My wife and I decided we wanted to start off-roading. I had done a lot of dirt-biking, but never owned a 4x4, and now I'm a little too old to keep dirt-biking. I'm kind of a Ford guy, always wanted an original Bronco, and if the new Bronco had been available we probably would own one now. But it wasn't. So we talked about buying a used Rubicon. They hold their value incredibly well and, as you pointed out, have ruled off-roading for decades. We figured with a nice slightly used Rubicon we could get our off-road feet wet (dirty) and then trade for a Bronco in a year or two if we wanted. But the price of nice, used Rubicons is so close to new ones, we started looking at new. When we discovered that Jeep had made available the Xtreme Recon package (think Sasquatch goes Jeep,) we figured we could drive a new Wrangler XR for a year or two and then maybe even make money on a trade for a Bronco Badlands Sasquatch. We bought a new 2021 Wrangler Unlimited (i.e., 4-door) Rubicon with the Xtreme Recon Package. We still haven't driven a Bronco, but its chances, and our interest, are fading fast. We both love our Jeep! Too bad your comparison couldn't have compared a Rubicon Xtreme Recon to the Bronco Sasquatch. The Jeep reminds us both of a certain mid-engine German 2-seat sportscar that also occupies our garage; both do what they do better than anything else, and put huge, stupid, grins on our faces every time we drive them. I still want to drive a Bronco, but it will have to be really special to take the place of our Jeep.

If you want to rock crawl and keep all 4 tires on the ground get a Jeep Wrangler. If you want to do light to moderate trails with better road manners get the Bronco or a 4Runner/Tacoma. You can get a base Rubicon for mid $50k throw a 3in lift and 37 in tires on it and do just about any trail you want. You can't modify a IFS to get that much capability for that amount of money.

I always thought the proper trim to get a Jeep in was the Mojave, not the Rubicon. The designed frame and suspension upgrades I thought would make for a better road driving experience, both in comfort and dynamics, while still retaining 90%+ of the off-road characteristics and abilities of the Rubicon. Anyone care to enlighten me? EDIT: I just enlightened myself and found they do not (yet?) make a Mojave spec Wrangler, only the Gladiator. Anyone with a Gradiator Mojave have any knowledge to share?

I purchased a 2021 Jeep Gladiator and came close to purchasing the Mojave. The Fox shocks and 33s were at first very attractive. After further research I landed with the Rubicon. If you want fully locking diffs, sway bar disconnect and the optional diesel you have to get Rubicon. The fact is the Mojave offers a more limited off road capability aimed more at high speed desert driving. If you want to do some rock crawling, rubicon is the way.

@@Spoolingturbski Very good points. But outside of the locking diffs, where they were off roading in the video, would the Mojave not be sufficient? I do like the new Bronco, but I think you guys, and the off-road community as a whole, are pushing an incorrect comparison. A lot of people WANT it to be a Jeep competitor, but with the Bronco having independent front suspension, I believe it's going to be a bigger competitor to the Toyota Tacoma in the overlanding market than it will be to the Jeepers in the serious off-road arena. Both looks great. For starters I’m sure the bronco drives better with that IFS up front. That’s what’s independent suspension does. It absorbs bumps better. But independent suspension doesn’t have the durability of a solid axle and that’s obvious. Also the bronco is waaaaay to new so the aftermarket parts haven’t been developed fully yet. I saw a low trim package bronco for sale the other day and they wanted $75,000 for it. It didn’t even have 35s. You could buy an hemi wrangler for that price. Dealer markup is criminal at the moment, I don’t even know what people pay for the badlands trim🤢. I’ll stick with my tractor suspension for now, plus it’s only the first model year, so you gotta let them work out the kinks. You’ll start to see them in mall parking lots all over like the wrangler and the prices will go down more. Demand is just waaaaay to high over supply.

Good video but the pricing is deceiving. I have a 2022 SAS Badlands high package and if you get the same option with the JEEP Rubicon its cost more.. you actually get more with the Bronco.. So you are comparing apples to oranges on pricing. Is it me or are some folks only thinking rock crawling is the only off road option!!??.. So far i feel like exteme rock crawling is what beats the Bronco.. Both are great machines but i do think the Bronco takes the cake so far.. Let's see what the Jeep counters with in the coming years..

A Bronco is on my list, though I’m on my 3rd Two door Wrangler (99, 10, 14). If you put a decent set of light truck road tires on them, the highway steering greatly improves. Still, once prices and availability normalize, I will look real hard at a Bronco.

We got a 23 4xe on order now. We test drove quite a few different broncos first but my wife and I both liked the jeep better. Not that we thought the bronco was bad, we just liked the overall feel of the jeep better. It was tough trying to decide which one to get, but the 4xe rubicon fit the bill better for our needs.

Nice comparison. I hope the day doesn’t come that Jeep ditches the solid front axle for IFS to get better on road handling. IFS doesn’t handle the abuse as well. I currently have 3 wranglers. One of which I have had for almost 20 years now. All 3 are daily drivers during the week and off-road on the weekends.

Owned both and wheeled with both. Never had an issue with IFS and Solid Axel. Most people don't off-road hard like litebrite but if doing that extreme offroading like they do then yeah some serious upgrades to ifs is needed to handle the abuse. IFS will only get better and better. Solid axel is outdated tech and the only SUV left with solid axel in production is the Wrangler. Mercedes got rid of it for their g-wagon.

well 2 be fair the Bronco has a lot of add on and the Jeep had the low end engine. you can get a 65K jeep, that's why I hate these comparisons when you compare at 65K with a 50k. Just get two 50k or two 65k and then compare the two. If you can't then do a review of one don't compare when you have 15k difference........didn't even have the same size tires and you can get the bigger tires on the Jeep and a V8........

Oddly I think on road is where these 2 will decide which is the better overall vehicle. It looks like the Bronco has a more modern 4WD system that can drive on concrete whereas the Jeep is still using that same old fashioned system that shouldn't be used on concrete because it locks the hubs. Granted, if you wanted something more road friendly then you could get either Grand or regular Cherokee model...but those aren't the same offroad as the Wrangler, so with Jeep you are always settling.

Its just great that the wrangler now has a very capable alternative aside from the old fj cruiser. Jeep tends to focus too much on extreme offroading and leave out the driveability and practicality for some. As much as I like jeep wranglers, these new ford broncos tend to be more practical to many drivers. Better for daily driver, high speed and long distance travels. I find it hard to think if jeep would change their principles and make a daily driver version of wrangler, having an IFS. Thats why its a win win for the offroading world having the new broncos. No need to wait for jeep or toyota to make some innovations.

Really enjoyed your video, thanks. As a professional Jeep driver, I had to experience the Bronco for myself, and so much of what you said resonates with me. Bronco's on-road manners and the 10-speed were highlights, but I felt its size, even though it was no more roomy inside. Bronco fit and finish was not quite as good as I'd hoped (wobbly handles; exposed wiring harnesses; no rear-seat air), plus I also felt kinda "insulated" from the overall driving experience. So while I respect Bronco and am glad it will help everyone by forcing Jeep to up their game, my heart remains with the XR Rubicon ❤

At least for now I think the Bronco wins on presence alone. Jeeps are such a common sight, but I get excited every time I see a new Bronco. Maybe in a couple years we'll all be bored by the Bronco, but at the moment they sure make a statement. Also, I have a lot more confidence in Ford's overall reliability/longevity compared to a Stellantis product.

One thing thats revealing, is the fact that these vehicles prices really tell you how much money people have to make at their jobs. And what they also must do to supplement financially what more is needed. If your paying 68 grand for your car. we are talking a good $2,500 a month expense, on top of fuel needs and maintenance before even getting into your own mortgage and home expenese, oil gas electric, Food, other bills we're talking a good $6000 a month no less than 72grand a year. And thats just one vehicles. when people have typically have 3 or 4. and that means they must be pulling no less than 130grand a year. near 11 grand a month.

The Raptor Bronco kind of disappointed me. If I want to get more power I will need to get a versions that is too big to park at the Mall and is too big on a lot of trails. Everyone is not going to rock climbing everyday. Most buyers will use this as a daily driver. It's cool to be in the Jeep club with all of the aftermarket accessories. Most people will choose the Bronco if they are a first time buyers of new purchase, of this type of vehicle because of the comfort in daily driving. Stock model bronco over stock wrangler will be better on fuel economy. When you are a jeep owner you want to accessorize and adding weight, bigger tires brings your gas milage down. Same with the bronco you start adding weight, tires it pulls the fuel economy down. Bronco still takes in that 80s/90s bronco crossroad feel but adding offroad competition.
