Who's the next QB Payton will be yelling at in primetime ? Nobody knows, but for sure is that Payton will trade Patrick Surtain to get him. The time the Broncos realize what kind of genius Sean Payton is he will have been ruined the Broncos for the next decade entirely. The cherry on the cake will be to be beaten up by the DangeRuss Steelers at MileHigh while paying Russ 38Million for doing that and being absolute outclassed. And the Broncos deserve this total for betraying Russ and dragging down his reputation maliciously.

I’m a fan of neither Payton nor Russell Wilson. I dislike each for different reasons although if I had to have a beer - or a Russell Wilson Spicy Subway Sandwich with Jalapeño Sauce - with either I’d begrudgingly take Russell. It’s just that Sean seems like, well, kind of an a-s hole. With all due respect, which makes it alright. But I think that maybe Sean didn’t think this through enough. Wilson did make some improvements last year. I’m still not sold on Wilson but because of his huge contract it might’ve been smarter for Payton to not throw out the baby with the bath water like he did. But paying Wilson to play for an AFC competitor? That’s gotta sting.

@@kcnoise His first rebuild came when he took the Saints job & lasted 4 years culminating in a Super Bowl trophy. His second rebuild took place from 2014-2016. It takes more than just having the QB. He rebuilt the rosters. The Chargers have a QB. They are 30-32 with him as a starter & have nothing to show for that other than a single wildcard playoff loss in which they scored 8 points. That second rebuilt took 3 years but culminated in 4 straight division titles & he would have likely been in the Super Bowl again had it not been for the worst officials call in NFL playoff history, one that looked suspiciously like a deliberate attempt to punish him.

Being so seemingly open about taking a QB in round 1 seems like complete smokescreen to me. They'll hold tight at 12 and pick the best defensive player available and grab Nix in round 3. Or god forbid, Spencer Rattler. They both know only 1 of the QBs in the draft will turn out to be legit - that's how it goes (except in '83!). This is just like the 2021 QB class...a bunch of over-hyped college QBs who can't cut it in the NFL. Even Caleb Williams is a question mark.

Here is an interesting little fact. In the 15 draft classes he's had, Payton has chosen either a defensive back or a lineman in his top two selections 21 times out of 30 picks...a 70% share of those picks. He's not drafting a QB in round 1.

He said it far before this draft on the day he signed him, then he later repeated it again last year several months later. He not only said he saw him as a potential starter, he went into the details as to why he saw him that way, which included him praising his processing speed, his ability to do pre-snap and in-play reads for the defense, & his overall football intelligence & ability to get the ball out on time. Payton is not the only one who has said this, & if he didn't believe that, why on earth would he make a special point of signing him to a free agent contract to begin with? He wasn't an afterthought, he was the very first signing he made, & the lazy Denver media never thought to ask him any questions about this. Among the others who have also said this about Stidham are multiple scouts, coaches & both opposing players as well as teammates on both the Broncos and the Raiders. They include the guys catching passes from him as well as Jordan Palmer, a QB trainer who has coached Joe Burrow & Josh Allen as well as Stidham and a couple dozen other college & NFL quarterbacks. In point of fact, all these people went out of their way to talk about it. Instead of being hopeful that we have a QB that is a lot better than people think as a hidden gem & just needs an opportunity, you can choose to believe that Payton is stupid or lying, all these other people are also stupid or lying, & Stidham is worthless simply because you've not seen him play more than 2 meaningless games at the end of last year. But why would you want to do that? Do you suppose that is how NFL scouts would approach this? Or just spiteful fans who are bitter about something?

Gotta believe Denver's rebuild is long term. Meaning they probably want to be worse in 2024. So 2025 is likely their QB year. Could see them picking up a 3rd rounder (Diamond in the rough). Maybe even Penix if he falls. Take their 12th pick in the 1st round and trade down a couple times.
