Ravens? @@d.b.cooper2174 IF they're gonna have a chance, it was almost certainly to have used the money they spent on Cousins, to beef up the roster in countless other areas over the next couple years, while Penix sits behind an experienced Superbowl winning, multi appearance QB until he's ready to start himself... have him sit behind a guy who you could have signed for DIRT cheap over spending SO much money to bring in Kirk... ESPECIALLY when you're bringing in a 24 year old, who's been viewed as the second "most NFL ready" QB in the draft, behind the guy who went 1st overall... If you weren't gonna make a Superbowl like this, it would have almost certainly needed to be using the 8th overall pick to help cousins win NOW... They aren't ready to win now with half the foot in the win now camp, and thinking half about winning in the future, when meanwhile, their fans just want SOMETHING to believe in... Either they needed to use this pick to help cousins win NOW, OR use them money they spent on Cousins in FA over the next couple seasons, to try and win while you have Penix Jr. on his rookie contract... @@Ryan-ys2bq I'm actually a MN fan so I've been loving our offseason. But I'm scratching my head at the Falcon's moves. Dallas Turner was on the board when Atlanta picked and would have fit their immediate needs, and there are a couple mid-round QBs that could be good as a temporary understudy if they wanted to get a QB in this draft. Or literally, any WR would have been a better pick I feel like for their situation. Time will ultimately tell but I'm with you guys on how confusing these decisions are.

The idea of drafting a QB to sit a year maybe two w a veteran in place is fine but NOT after you just invested 180million at the same spot, legit crazy.. In Atlanta's defense, he's coming off of an Achilles injury and he is in the back end of his career. From an article by Alec Lewis….”After years of self-criticism, Kirk Cousins is trying to chill out”….When Kirk was with the Vikings, he was telling his back-up, Sean Mannion, about his experience on the scout team at Michigan State, when defensive linemen would spear him in the back and safeties would pummel him into the grass. Mannion thought that was barbaric. But for Kirk, it motivated him even more. Pat Narduzzi’s defense thrived on bringing down the quarterback at all costs. The ferocity of the Spartans’ defense woke up something inside the quarterback, who described his frame of mind during those practices as “scorched earth. Kirk told Mannion that “The way I’m wired is, if you want to do that, I’m going destroy you.” Kirk is obviously pissed off about the pick. Kirk will help Penix but he also is gonna go scorched earth to silence the doubters that he deserves to be QB1 for many years. At his core, Kirk is a fiery competitor. We don’t get the “You Like That!!!” game unless he cared about overcoming doubt by winning. Rodgers still left but he had already been with the Packers for 15 years when Love got drafted, unlike Kirk. Say the Falcons do "win now" the next two years....you're gonna kick the guy that got you there to the curb (that was just signed) and play an unproven QB and expect that success to continue? And it's not like Penix is the next Mahomes. He's far more likely to be a bust. And that's if he stays healthy. He torn his ACL twice, had injuries to both shoulders and hurt his ankle.

If they're (The Raiders) having to depend on a QB coming out of retirement then they're gonna be picking first next year. Their O line blocking is a huge weakness on the team and any previously retired QB won't last playing behind that line. It doesn't matter who's playing WR, TE, or a hybrid combo of both positions, if the QB doesn't have time to get the ball out because of a porous OL they'll never be able to catch what the QB is unable to throw. You could have prime Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, and Michael Irvin playing WR on your team but if your QB is recently unretired and playing behind the current Raiders O line they won't be catching anything other than the reality hit of knowing that they're in for a very long and very painful season full of many losses to come....

Yeah people over react because Atl didn’t behave like they assumed. To me it’s a genius move if Kurt plays well for Atl to get to the playoffs good. Penix will be starting at least by mid season next year. He can learn while we have a top 15 qb at the helm.
@thish62019 ай бұрын
So you couldn't get another veteran Qb for Penix to learn from? What you are saying makes no sense. They wasted all that money when they could have given that money to other players instead of signing Cousins.
@thekingsson17579 ай бұрын
@@thish6201 what other vet qb available that was better than Kirk nobody. Falcons need to win now and plan to win in the future. Smart move by them.
@MrM-u3h9 ай бұрын
@thekingsson1757 They could have got Flacco, Tannehill or Russell Wilson on a vet minimum. All these guys were available at the time they signed Kirk.

the best part of this is the comparison to stafford XD LIKE WHAT!?!?! lol. We watched that kid play in college and it wasnt even CLOSE to the Stafford level of play... even at that age.

Cousins must regret his choice to sign there, over night a 4 years contract become at most 2 years before getting cut

Kirk doesn't have that many years in the tank. He's not Tom Brady. He'll be retired due to injury in two years.

Penix Jr will hold out until he is traded- he can't let Atlanta destroy his career, he has to hold out, this is b.s.

Not gonna lie. I think penix is the best qb in the draft, regardless of his age
@jasonhancock94589 ай бұрын
The Atlanta Falcons are not going all in to win now with Kirk Cousins. Terry Fontenot just wants to keep his job for as long as possible. I'm assuming he thinks he can keep his job as long as they win the weak NFC South and get bounced in the first round. I love Bijan and what Penix did in college, but RB's and backup QB's don't win championships.

Alot of ppl mad the falcons got a QB 4 other teams wanted 🤣🤣 Worry about REGULAR QB MONEY, worried about past injuries - aint it funny how, when he was at Washington it was a inspirational story, but when he get picked at 8 now his past injuries are a problem - And if MPJ doesn't start until his 26... Kurt Warner started at 27... Stop it

Way to go ATL. You created a distraction before your season even started. Now Kirk is gonna be looking over his shoulder until he leaves. I give him 2 years and he's gone.
@deliriouswhome19 ай бұрын
2 years is all cousins is really worth, at this point. He's 35, coming off a Achilles injury. The deal was always going be only 2 seasons, that's why there opt out clause after 2026.

2 years is all I was expecting. Plus Kirk only has 1 playoff win. He needs the competition. Expensive regardless tho.

They've had the 8th overall pick since the regular season ended.. if they planned on taking a QB at #8, why give over $100mill guaranteed? What a waste of cap when you could fill needs.

1. Kirko aint winnin a chip. 2. He has a freshly connected achilles tendon. 3. He's about to be 36. 4. Penix was the best pure thrower in the league. 5. He can now sit behind a very competent starter in the NFL. 6. Profit.
@TheMattTrakker9 ай бұрын
You wasted the 8th pick, you're wasting 2 years of cheap qb contract, Penix has 2 torn acls, he sucks under pressure, got bailed out consistently by his WRs and is going to be at least 26 before he sees meaningful time. But enjoy that cope. Being a falcons fan, you must be addicted to it by now.
