+Zachary Windsor Having graduated from Major League Umpire school in a previous life I can tell you they have neither, it's all about positioning. The late John McSherry told us that if you set up at the correct angle, you can make the correct call from 90 feet away, if you have the incorrect angle, you can be 15 feet away and completely blow the call. That is why robots will never work and why even slow motion can be deceptive. It's all about setting up at a 90* angle to the throw.

Most fans don't realize that the strike zone is actually three dimensional, not two dimensional, which adds to the difficulty.

There’s a very well made informative KZbin video just about this topic called “What Bad Umpiring Looks Like” by Baseball Bits and how accurate Umpires have been when it comes to Balls and Strikes over the years. I know these replies are old but I just wanted to make this comment so other people can see it because it’s true, the strike IS actually three dimensional and this videos goes in depth on the topic

I love plays like these, but these are always the hardest plays for the umps, you really have to have a good eye to see these and it is always tough after you make the call. A lot of times people just assume that because the ball got there before the runner, the runner is out, but a lot of times the fielder doesn't make a good tag, the runner slides under it or they come up with innovative slides

Amazing plays... Two questions on 2 of those plays... On Hamilton's bunt, perfect, he avoided the tag, however in the slide he missed contact with the base while the first baseban is touching it. I'm not sure, but that is an out, right?... And I also would like to know (By rule, of course), What's the criteria (if there is any) to go around over the running line? (Hamilton invading infield, Aoki avoiding Turner's tag, Harrison invading infield)... Thanks...

K so my family never watched baseball and I just started getting interested in it I love watching it! And I loved playing it as a kid! Here's my question about one of the rules I've always been a little confused about do you have to tag the runner even if you're standing on the base? Because to me I'll have to give them another look it looks like the basemen are standing on the base in some circumstances but still try to tag the runner or in some situations even if you can just touch the base first and you don't have to tag them... It seems like the basemen go for the tag when it would be easier to touch base? How does this rule work?
@andersonkzaw4988 жыл бұрын
the baseman has to tag the runner unless its a force out
@tyriqueowens9108 жыл бұрын
+Anderson KZAW So how do triple plays work..I was wondering the same thing, if you have to tag the player ?
@andersonkzaw4988 жыл бұрын
it all depends. in most situations at least one of the outs comes from a tag, but its possible for it to only happen with force outs. for example, if there is a runner on first and second and there is a ground ball to third, the third baseman can step on third for a force out, throw to 2B for a force out, then throw to 1B for another force out
