Lovely explore. I realize that a lot of viewers enjoy hearing the past history and tragedies of these places you explore. For me, it is more wonderful an experience to just see it and marvel. The sad past is too much of a downer for me and takes away some of the enjoyment of looking at these abandoned homes.

“My days are like smoke.” Is likely a reference to life being short and fleeting, and echoes a Bible verse found in James 4:14 that says, “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” A vapour is translated “smoke”. Love your videos. They touch me deeply. Ironically before you even got to the mantel and said what was written, I was all teary thinking of their beautiful lives and the pain from the loss of their son, I began crying because I lost a 16 year old son. I quoted out loud, “Our lives are but a vapour that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.” And no sooner had I done so you were reading the words on the mantel. Amazing. 🙏🏼 Having lost a child, this family knew that life was short and to fill each day with love. Such a bittersweet video.

My mother had a modern PFAF sewing machine in the 90’s, then another even more modern one in the 2000’s. That one is worth about $200 in the USA right now. The Amish people love them because they don’t use electricity. Leslie, you are so handsome, even to this old lady. This was a great find. I find it so sad how the chateau is falling into disrepair. This could hold multi-family, plus be a wedding or party venue or a business park. The lands could be brought back to grapes and wine, and livestock. The place could be self-supporting. It must have some full time caretakers to keep decay at bay, and some maids to keep it clean. I can picture a coat of paint and moving myself right in. I could turn it into an old folks home and a small school, which is my dream in America, but our regulations prevent me from doing much. (I work outside the home as a nurse aide/caregiver and on days I don’t work, I teach school to one student. But I would love to do both in my home.)

Hey dear Lesley again a wonderful documentation about this old castle somewhere in France! - Yes, it is indeed a mystery, why the former owners never returned again. Beautifully filmed by excellent cameraman Danny, who is again considerably contributing a lot to the high quality of this video with his remarks and observations and with the beautiful background music! So great, Lesley, that you had a good and helpful talk with a neighbour! - So amazing to see all these rooms with the original furniture still intact. A true time capsule! - So I really loved rewatching this video with great pleasure, bro! Stay safe, peace and kindest regards.

the round brick ceilings are called barrel ceilings. i did masonry long ago, and the mortar has to be specific or it drops on your face

You can see them reinforced with concrete in the basement. Judging from the thickness of it though it's probably not to structurally keep the ceiling up but to stop the stones from falling off.

Thank you both Lesley & Danny for another great episode. This one was a bit troubling for a variety of reasons. Who walks away from their home with leaving so many personal items behind (photos,etc.). In America - if we don’t pay a power bill (electricity) - it is shut off by the 2nd month. And the poor cat??? We would never leave our pets Behind!!! Wow - great video - but hard to understand this families behavior. We’ve had deaths in my own family too - but would never abandon everything- not that many years has gone by!!?? So so sad!!!
