Exploring abandoned places is my hobby and finance it all out of my own pocket and the donations I get from the people who love watching the documentaries we make... A small donation would be greatly appreciated! ► / brosofdecay
Siblings-the definition that comprises love, strife, competition, and forever friends.
Today we tell the story of Carlo and Maria, brother and sister, who grew up in a remote village in the Alpine Mountains of Italy. They were best friends from the day they were born and decided to spend their whole life together. When their parents passed away they split the family home into 2, Carlo lived on the right side and Maria on the left. They both got married, had children, and lived happy and long lives in their remote Alpine mountain houses. From the day they were born they made countless memories inside these walls. But unfortunately, great things don’t last forever, after both their children moved out in search of better opportunities, Carlo and Maria lived out their last years. Both of them rose to heaven around a decade ago and their forever loving houses are left to crumble and decay.
Today we will give you a glimpse of their former lives and take you on a tour through their magical kingdom.

I'm 52 now, but when I was 18, I had an Italian girlfriend who used to go home to Italy, to visit her family (grandparents, uncles and aunts) for holiday every year and she really loved it. She always told me, her family lives high up in an old village in the wine mountains and that it's one of the most joyful, peaceful and most beautiful places on earth. Her whole family, from all over the world came together and met there once a year to celebrate life! But after coming back "home" she was always wondering, what would happen to the place, after her grandparents would die, as she and her parents, siblings, cousins etc. was living outside Italy since generations. She was always worried, that when her grandparents would die, the place would die too and simply turn to dust! Because all family members were living spread around the whole world, and none of them would've been ready to return back to Italy to live in a mountain village. Today the grandparents are long gone and even me sometimes wonder what happened to their home in the mountains. As I know for sure, that none of the kids/grandkids went to live there after they died. I guess their home could just be like one of those beautiful places you are exploring today. Once upon a time a place full of love, life and happiness, today maybe a place abandoned, sad and lonely 🙁

This house is clearly one of the 100’s of Italian houses that had to be abandoned after an earthquake. The reason so much is left behind is because the Italian government does not allow anyone to return after evacuation. In fact whole Italian towns/villages have been abandoned in this way. It’s heartbreaking to see.

My sister who is 6 years older than me used to take me, when we were both kids, on what she called Haunted House Hunting. But it really is exactly what you do. We would piece together the lives of those from the abandoned homes. I would love to talk to you about doing this in the United States. After our political criminals, who are parading around as the current administration, are brought to justice though, which is hopefully very soon. Love to you from Wisconsin ❤.

Yes! Encyclopedias were our 'google'! ; ) And I can hardly believe I am in my 60's ...and find it so strange that this young man has never made a phone call on a rotary phone!!! Life is indeed ephemeral. What we take for granted today can swiftly change and become an "ancient way of life"! However we take our lessons with us when we "shuffle off this 'mortal coil" and our developing spirituality is always a constant moving through time and space. ...As I believe the spirit moves on and reincarnates in a new and hopefully improved supple and young 'wine-skin' that holds the eternal wine of the spirit which can only improve with age *if* one treats life and this world as a classroom to learn and grow and eventually 'graduate' from.

@@kindlydude There are little ones (just recent 18 year olds) who have never heard the the noises of dial up internet. That makes me feel old. And I was one of the few Millennial generation to have used a rotary phone... at my parents as a child in their room (an extra phone), and at my grandmas. Phone books. Even phone booths are becoming rare. Cassette tapes. Were already going outdated mid to late 90's with CD's.. but even CD's are becoming a thing of the past with thumb drives and smaller phone sized SD chips. Now one doesn't need a cassette/CD player, maps or separate GPS device, voice and text only cell phone, dictionaries/translation books/ any books, don't need a computer necessarily for checking bank, buying something online, trading stocks/options, etc., in car stereo system other than the speakers, just USB hook up in your car, cameras in addition to rear view mirrors will become just the norm as old cars phase out, and the new requirement to have camera views on vehicles in the USA, etc. Anyway, to all what you did one several devices, all you need is one device... a smart phone.

I love how Italian houses preserve traditional and family values all the time and this house makes no exception; despite the serious decay out there, precious memories and items are present almost everywhere; "Buon Natale" e "Vi voglio bene" is "Merry Christmas" and "I love you all" in Italian! Thank you for the interesting story and the lovely exploration!!!

As I grow old [74] I start to wonder if my own dear home will ever be derelict? Lesley, I hope only the Bros of Decay explore, you do such a thoughtful and sweet search, it reminds me of my first tentative explore when I was 9 years old, you capture the poignant combination of the touching care and love of the previous occupants with the gentle slow decay I remember so well...the perfectly made bed with a fine gritty dust of old plaster on the coverlet; the window jammed open with the curtain fluttering in and out...in and out... in all weathers. I went back downstairs as quietly as I could and put water in a saucer so that any stray animals coming in could get a drink.

The roof must have needed to be replaced when the building was abandoned. Nothing will make a building decay faster than rain damage. Those things you thought were more postage stamps were slides. If you find more in another house, hold them up to the light to see them. They’re tiny photos that can be made into full size pictures. You put 50+ slides in a slide projector and shine it on a wall on pull down screen. A cloth tissue is called a handkerchief (hank-er-khef) or hanky for short.

Heyy dear Lesley, What an amazing explore again! - I simply love your deeply respectful, kind and very gentle way, how you are actually approaching the background story of the former inhabitants of this Italian mansion. - Your videos belong - after my opinion - in this respect to the best explore videos on KZbin. - Every time I am watching a video from Bros of Decay I have the impression of experiencing some kind of new life in these abandoned locations - only by your wonderful filming and commenting, my friend! With your really unbelievable vivid imagination, when you talk about the possible life of the former owners, I can also literally see this in my mind! - Wow, dear Lesley, you absolutely never fail to amaze me with every new video you are uploading on KZbin! Some of the rooms had really such a strong timecapsule vibe with these antique items, being still in a fairly good state. - On the other hand it is of course also very sad to see the heavy traces of natural decay, which remind us human beings how everything in life is just transitory and is not lasting for ever. - I also loved your loving and caring words about your adorable brother Jordy. Of course here I would say: "Never say never again!" - Maybe he might join you suddenly again, if he finds a location so interesting, that he also wants to explore it together with you. - You never can be absolutely sure about the future desires of someone, even if he is your brother. Naturally I also loved seeing your two friends, Jeroen and Maureno, in your video! Thank you very much, dear bro, for taking us on tour through this interesting and fascinating location. - I very much enjoyed watching and listening to your excellent comment. - Stay safe, take care, peace and kindest regards.
