💚 A huge thank you to The Brotherhood: / brothersmake
♻️ Check out our recycled plastic store: www.brothersma...
We took a handful of recycled HDPE bottles and turned them into this crazy looking knife. The black and white marbled together to give the blade this damascus type pattern, which looks awesome. We gave this aluminium scales and came up with a way to make our own HDPE dowels, which we used for the knife pins. What do you think?!
This knife shape was inspired by ‘santoku’ knives and the blade has a deep bevel on both sides. As you can probably imagine, plastic does not sharpen particularly well and it was hard to get this to retain any sort of cutting edge. It did a pretty good job at cutting through the fruit! Certainly no match for real damascus!
If you want to be in with a chance of owning this exact knife, we are going to be raffling it off to raise money for the Innocence Project as part of a Global Charity Raffle that we are organising. Look out for the video that will be posted tomorrow with all the details on how you can enter!

Another great video. What gloves are you using when handling the hot hdpe? Also, did the spray the wooden mould with a silicone?
@BrothersMake
@BrothersMake 4 жыл бұрын
The orange ones are silicone oven mitts. The best we have used so far for dexterity vs heat resistance. And no, we didn’t spray the mould as we have found that mould release can contaminate the HDPE and sometimes cause minor failures. So we use multiple coats of varnish to make the mould super slick and never have a problem with sticking.
