OK my wife just inheritied a 58 chevy apache fleetside from her granpa. These videos are extremely helpful. Very happy with all the narration your doing !! Had not thought of doing the disc brake in the front until I saw the video. i think it will really help in the control of the braking for the truck. We are fixing it up so its a great ride. But we dont want to sacrafice safety for what was original. THANK YOU for taking the time to do these. Will deffinately be getting your kits.

Great video. I am putting the CPP kit on '50 chevy 1/2 ton. Their included instructions leave a lot to be desired, such as the caliper brackets and which way the offset should be. This video makes it very clear. Side note, I need to drill out the bottom bolt hole in my spindles from 7/16 to 1/2. This was not mentioned in the instructions that shipped with the kit, but is in their online version. VERY hard metal to drill.

I gotta say you made this seem very simple and a nice conversion ! I have a 1955 GMC truck and i really want to convert it to disk brakes. when i have the extra cash im forsure gonna look into these. i still need to do engine work and swap the transmission out. but this is a must in my book before i even get it on the road. gonna bookmark !

i'd like to see these kits for the 3600 (3/4 ton ) & the 3800 (1 ton ) the available 3100's are dwindiling but the 3600 & 3800 are readily available. they are basically the same truck.

Just to add a tiny bit of advice to your already fantastic how-to video. Whenever working on the brakes of an old timer like this, especially if it's been parked for decades in a barn or field, when those drums come off hold your breath and soak everything in wd40 because if these brakes haven't been touched in 20+ years they may contain asbestos and its guaranteed if it's been sitting 40+ years. The aerosol wd40 is low pressure to not blow the dust around and it will prevent it from becoming airborne which is asbestos dangerous form. This goes for old clutches too 👍

Thanks for the video! I am not a mechanic but have a '49 3100 which needs new brakes and this will likely be the route I go. Please wish me luck. I'm sure I will need to investigate other components as well; brake lines, master cylinder, rear drum brakes, etc. Any comments are appreciated.

Converting to disc is definitely a good start, but we also recommend converting the master cylinder to a dual reservoir unit and ditch the original single reservoir.

I have another question. I have a 1955 Chevy truck 3100 second series and have a 6 lug 15” wheels. With the front disc brake conversion kit can I still fit the 15” 6 lug wheels on it. It says in the comments on the kit it may not. How will I know if it does and if not what happens with my purchase. These are not cheep and I want to also purchase the firewall power booster.

I bought and installed this kit onto my 56 Chevy truck. The wheel studs seem a little short to really torque down the wheels. I'm having a hard tome finding some long enough. Can you recommend an alternate size that will work with this kit? Thank you in advance.

Good video. Very well explained. Only thing that is holding me up on my truck is my hub doesn’t have the rivets in it or holes for them. Do I need to drill holes into the hub to mount the spacer or do I just stick it on once the hub it mated with the rotor via the studs?

Very good video. I Really like the plain English description of what you are doing. Some guys try to Over do that. I have a First Series 1955 Chevy 6500 Wrecker. Do you have a disc brake kit for it? it has the original type Bias Tires and 5 lug wheels. It even still has that brake booster under the cab.

You would need to add a proportioning valve at a bare minimum. We recommend adding a dual reservoir master cylinder as well.

Yes, the entire front suspension is different on the 1T truck. You wold have to convert it to 1/2T parts including the springs.

It will, but you would need to add a proportioning valve to send the appropriate amount of pressure front and rear, as well as hold residual pressure on the front calipers. In any case, BROTHERS DOES NOT RECOMMEND USING A STOCK MASTER when converting to Disc Brakes.

Great video and well explained thanks a million, question what size rims and how deep in order to clear hardware, I believe the 15 inch x 5.5 Original rim will not clear the caliper unless you add thick spacers correct?

This truck had the factory 16" wheels and they clear without a problem. 15" wheels are a little more difficult because not all of them clear. We would NOT suggest running spacers on the front. Find a set of stock 15" disc brake wheels or have a set made. Contact our customer service dept at 800-977-2767 for additional help with this.

You would at the very least need a disc/drum master cylinder. We strongly recommend a proportioning valve when switching to disc brakes though. A proportioning valve will also typically double as a residual pressure valve and that is important too when running disc brakes.
