The OP is right. It also helps to add variation such as doing some of your sets with your feet elevated, or upper body elevated like on a bench, and position of your hands, wider or closer etc. Also negatives are very effective (negative resistance). So you lower your body very slowly instead of your normal up/down speed...sloooow down, power up, repeat. Variation is the enemy of plateau.

As someone who’s been doing this for the past 2 years a lot of the wrist pain and other issues can be easily avoidable by simply increasing ur protein count or slowly progressing to a 100. For those that don’t know much about fitness, the “dead zone” where you stop gaining from the exercise is when your body as adapted too much to that specific range of motion from you doing it too often too consistently, you can regularly do the same exercise for usually about two to three maybe four weeks then you’ll start noticing that you’ve “hit a wall” so to speak. What you do when that happens is you simply find another exercise or several other exercises that work the same muscles but in different ways, that keeps your body adapting and growing and constantly having to deal with some form of change occurring which is what causes you to see the results. This doesn’t mean go and do 40 different workouts every time you go to the gym or do a workout session, you do still need to repeat each exercises consistently enough to see results, you just don’t want that exercise to be the ONLY thing you do or else you will reach this point where you’re not really losing anything but you’re not really gaining anything either.

(Obviously, not when you begin, because you will start simple, and gain endurance that you will use in other exercices) Hundreds of reps are just completely useless. It's basically like walking at this point. It will even maybe make you lose more weight that make you gain muscle. You just need to add a bit more weight every time. It's simple.

If you have good technique you don’t have to worry about hurting yourself. Also, if you can’t do pushups from your toes you can still get a good workout from your knees. When I was in the army this is what I was taught when I first got to basic and used it for a little till I was strong enough to do them from the full front and leaning rest position.

I did 100 pushups a day for maybe 3 months or so. I also did 50 squats, 50 pikes, and 50 sit-ups. I noticed that although I gained strength and mass, and got more cut, I also hit a glass ceiling. When I switched to every other day, or every few days, I began to grow again. Moral of the story-your body needs time to heal, recover, and grow. Take some days off if you really want to see results. I should also mention I’m naturally fit. Mama and papa gave me good genes…so I had an advantage. Best of luck to all of you!

You work your way towards 100. That's how you should do it. You start with 10 and just add 2 more every week. You'll end up at 100 in 10 months and your body wouldn't be broken. I always remember the line from Roseanne: "work smart, Danny, not hard".

@OcarinaOfTime Жыл бұрын
@@EzBlitzzzWay too much, especially if you do multiple sets. The difference between 5 sets of 10 and 5 sets of 15 is insane, if you add 2 pushups per set, it's like adding 10 pushups every week, it's more than enough

The fact is that you don't have to be stuck on 100 Pushups you will need to increase the intensity or number of pushups with time, after 25-30 days depending person to person you'll be easily able to do 100 pushups in one go your muscles will get used to it so either you'll have to do pushups with weight or increase the number of pushups with time.

@vanheath5382 Жыл бұрын
But as far strength and muscle growth, you stopped any gains from push-ups a long time ago wouldn’t you say. I did mine before bed for about 13 years and it was just basically a routine. It felt good, but my body was conditioned to it and I never had any soreness from it the next day.
@mseier Жыл бұрын
I agree. I’m not gaining anything. Until 5 years ago, I was also crossfitting a lot. Then I became a father, and since then I haven’t been working out. Although I’m starting to get a daddy-belly, the pushups in the morning keeps chest and biceps in some sort of shape. At least that’s what I’m telling myself :) But, it’s mostly just a routine now and the best way for me to wake up instantly.

@@mseieruse to work out a ton. 6 days a week, 2-6hr workouts depending on what it was. You hit a critical point where you are cut and strong as fuck after 2yrs. I was 185lbs 10% body fat, 350lbs 3-rep bench press, bicep curl 100lbs dumbbell like it was nothing, etc. But then I just gave up. Got busy with work and family. Been several years since I worked out but on the bright side I still retained a good shape in my back, chest, and biceps. Even though I’m a 230lbs fatass I still have strength and a good shape for the ladies. Lol. The dad belly is unavoidable. I did all that working out to keep that off but stress keeps it growing. 😭

There is a method called Greasing the Groove which is known to improve strength and muscular endurance. The idea is to do half the number of reps you can do in a set, and do this suboptimal set of reps multiple times in a day, often going to near 100. But the point is that it does cause alight increase in muscle strength, but the most important adaptation is that the muscles learn to execute the motion in a more efficient way and get the movement etched in muscle memory. Therefore, at the end of the program (roughly 2 months), a significant number of your reps will come not because of strength or endurance, but because of your muscle memory. It's just like you learn to type/press keys on the console during a game without even looking at it, effortlessly, after lots of practice.
