Greg Weisman wanted this show to run for 5 seasons, with direct-to-DVD movies between seasons 2, 3, 4 and 5. If this show had been allowed to run its course, it would have surpassed Batman TAS as the best superhero TV show of all time.

Something that a lot of people don't know is that Greg originally had intentions to make a shared universe out of this show similar to how DCAU was created with BTAS as the base. Originally he had intended to make Wilson Fisk the big man, not Tombstone. The F4 would've had a cameo but would have been mainly involved with handling cosmic threats, while Spiderman deals with the city level threats. Also Johny Storm would have been the 1st one to be introduced in the show. According to him this show would have taken place at a time when Cap was still frozen, Hulk was in Canada and was seen nothing more than a big foot myth, before Thor's arrival on earth and before Donald Blake picked up the Hammer, and before Tony Stark had built his Iron Man armour and had made his identity public. Other heroes like Ant Man and Wasp were probably still not superheros as well. Also it was taking place at a time when only Beast and Cyclops were in Xavier's school for gifted, so majority of X Men was yet to form. On top of it there were even supposed to make a cameo. This was his original pitched idea along with a lot of other stuff, but sadly he couldn't do a lot of it because of character rights. But not to mention that the show that we got in the end is still the best Marvel animation till date, and one of the best animations till date up there with Batman The Animated Series and Avatar The Last Airbender.

Not just this show, but considering how well Greg was able handle a superhero tie in show like Young Justice with such ease goes on to prove that it would have been phenomenal. But even though that didn't come to fruition, I'm still happy with what we got. Not to mention that it's one of the best shows till date and unequivocally the best version of Spiderman. Would've been better had we gotten all the 5 seasons and 65 episodes as originally planned. Along with the direct to DVD films.

The Lizard Episode almost made me tear up... Peter complains about being fired, losing the trust of his friends and having a broken hand; all thanks to Spider-Man. He thinks of it as a burden, a joke from destiny... he's about to drink the antidote that will remove his powers but then, he sees uncle Ben's picture and that makes him remember why he does it. This part really REALLY rasonted with me. I'd some points I'm my life when I considered suicide and was very tempted to doing it more than a couple of times but then I thought about the people in my life my friends and my FAMILY, how they need me and how I've been there for them in the past and if I do it I wouldn't be able to be there for them in the future. I don't think I need to illustrate the similarities even further but Peter was ready to end it, cut Spider-Man off once and for all. But there was his uncle Ben, the one who he failed to save, the one who transformed him. Thanks to him, Peter was able to save many more people. The scene wonderfully ends with a montage of every person that Peter catches from falling and him accepting this gift as his destiny. Beautiful show.

I really relate to this show too and that's what other cartoonist people are missing. They don't take the audience seriously instead they put out shows just to advertised the toys or things that aren't important or a waste of money and fame. After this show was cancelled and Disney own marvel and the spider man tv rights, they made this good awful spider man show which had nothing to do with the audience being interested in the show for the sake of making the story inspiring and relatable, they made the show a huge waste and ruined the whole franchise of spider man and spider man's persona

I am an absolute sucker for when a new continuity integrates multiple earlier continuities, and that's something SSM did so well. However, I feel like SSM wouldn't be nearly as good as it was if it didn't notably deviate from other aspects of the comics, movies, and shows. Giving Montana the Shocker suit, using the goblin serum as a stand-in for Harry's drug addiction, using Tombstone as a Kingpin stand-in, making Electro a tragic figure, etc. SSM wasn't afraid to adapt and innovate and we got a much better show because of it.

It's so good to see The Spectacular Spider-Man getting some love. It's one of my favorite adaptations of the character, and I still suffer from it being canceled. The late 2000's was a hard time, to be honest. I was really eager to watch a 3rd season of this animation, and really eager for Spider-Man 4 (at the time, set to be released in 2011). The fact that both of my favorite adaptations got axed around the same time really pains me to this day.

Why would they do that when they already own the full rights to new Spider-Man shows? They wouldn't. They only work with Sony on the films because they don't outright own the rights to that. And honestly, with Disney's track record on Marvel cartoons, who would actually want them to go anywhere near this or other older and much better Marvel cartoons? It's sad, I wanted the show to last a little longer, but it is over.

I grew up watching the Spider-man animated series and I loved it. But this one I feel is one of the best shows that has the wall crawler. Other shows also showed Peter Parker outside of Spider-Man and his love ones and friends around him. But here it feels organic and believable. Hell they make Peter Parker seem like his own character outside of Spider-Man, even two different sides of the same coin. And it is not just Spider-Man but other characters as well. They are treated with care with more dimensions from the side characters to the villains. One of the best examples is in fact how they handle my hands down favorite villain of Spider-Man: Venom. Eddie Brock isn’t someone shoved in so we can have Venom in a later arc, he has his own goals and views and treated like a character before his fall. Here he is friends with Peter, a good friend that they call each other “bro” and treated each other as brothers. And when things were falling apart and Eddie Brock became Venom, he felt like a tragic yet amazing character. The grudge against Spider-Man wasn’t just because he was a villain but it was personal and Peter Parker was just as much as target. I know this is a year late but again I love the show and love to see what people think of it.

I remember two students who bullied me in middle school and I did nothing about it. Then one day, while on my way to my highschool, I saw those two students again and hated them to the core and tried to avoid them. Then I happen to run in to them despite trying to avoid them and they said hi to me. I honestly think this and PS4 spidey capture the best parts of all live action interpretations. This was a beautiful watch. And part 1? So there will be a little video series on one of my favourite cartoons ever, how wonderful. This show really gets Peter right. I am amazed with how fantastically you explained it in this video. And how the side characters are given quite a bit lf attention makes me really happy as well. I like Flash Thompson in the comics, but in this show I actually really loved him. He felt wheaved in more naturally and gets some quire satisfying development. Spidey's big 3 (Goblin, Ock and Venom) are really nice adaptations that combine a lot of the best aspects from various versions that make them some of my favourite versions of these characters. idk. Great show

I've loved Spider-Man since the early 2000s but I didn't see myself as Spiderman until I became a teenager. It wasn't until I was a teenager that I understood so many things and relate to Spider-Man that I could never catch a break but still do the right thing. I was sexually assaulted a few years ago in school and as mad as I was, I let the bitch go and treated her with kindness and didn't do anything about it. Also, I knew my guardians wouldn't do anything about it if I told them so I decided to not to bring it up whatsoever and let it go. I showed absolute respect to some public bus driver and he yells at me for whatever reason and I showed him respect regardless and he still yells at me despite the act that I didn't raise my voice at him at any point in the conversation. My teacher had a bad attitude and yells at me and others in the classroom; we didn't understand the subject and she would yell at those who didn't understood despite the fact that of course we wouldn't understand because the course was introductory. Despite her being very rude and terrible at teaching, my Dean said I could file a report and have her terminated but I told him that I won't do that because despite my dislike and hatred for this teacher, I am not going to deprive that teacher of her career just because I don't like her. Hell, most of the campus doesn't like her but I still wasn't going to get her fired. This is why I see myself in Spider-man because I get so much shit spat in my face but still treat others with kindness; I just keep my opinions about them to myself. I got bullid so many times all the time, my parents, my aunts, uncles, and grandparents didn't lit one fucking finger to help me. I told my principal all of this and she asked me "How is it that you are always a well behaved student and treat your teachers with respect despite that things that go on with you at your home and being abused?" I told her that I just don't feel that being rude to my teachers is going to solve anything and also, just because I have problems doesn't mean I should place my anger on teachers when they have absolutely nothing to do with my problems. Also, just because I am angry, I can't bring myself to show disrespect to my elders.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching/listening to this. I never have this show a chance as when it was out I was long out of my cartoon phase and the art style screamed "made for kids" yet if I had just listened to the points you made I would have sworn you were talking about the series I grew up with 10 years prior. Spiderman the animated series has always been my bar and nearly every point you made about spectacular is true of the 90's iteration as well. So y'know what, I'm going to go track this show down and give it a watch. Great video man.

Well said Mauricio! I adore this show so much! I love the character development given to both sides of Peter's life - one could even be more invested in the interpersonal relationship stuff of the show than the action. The action sequences are fluid and hard-hitting. The writing is superbly serialised. The villains are fantastic, expertly threatening and diverse. The mythology is rich. Even the theme song is gold. I could tell this show could be a masterpiece when its completed!...err... before I heard others say that. The "Part 1" title of this video has me very excited. I love this show so much, and will never get tired of hearing the praise and discussion.
