This is when this band is at it's best. Playing on a small stage, in a small, crowed bar, and they are all close together on stage. Just like the 70's.

@elwyn51504 жыл бұрын
Bruce tends to write a LOT of songs, polish them THEN select songs that best fit his album's theme. I think this song was written around the time of Born in the USA album. It would have fit in with its hometown life theme. Also not sure why he didn't put it out as a B-side to one of the singles.
@michaela.c.20974 жыл бұрын
There was only so much room on Born in The USA. When pressing a vinyl record, too much audio on one side causes the overall sound to suffer. And this song wouldn't have fit on Tunnel of Love.

This song reflects the state of 🇺🇸 in 2020. Think about it. Your thoughts here..................
@twally874 жыл бұрын
agree it's a great tune especially live, of course, which is why its live versions are better known than any studio version. My guess he didn't include it is that the song is too long (it would have been the longest song on Born in the USA, from whose sessions the song came about) with lots of rocking out that's more appealing in a live setting. It's also somewhat monotonous and the era's production techniques don't in my mind mesh well with the song; the gated drums and synthesizers characterizing many of the songs on Born in the USA have no place in this raw tune.

I don't know why this wasn't on Born In The USA. It's a great album, make no mistake, but if this had made the cut, it would have been his first #1 single. Guarantee that. It's beyond ass-kicking. I am glad we got to hear it, though. He could have just as easily kept this gem in the vaults forever. Makes me wonder what else from those sessions that didn't make the cut. Let's hear 'em, Bruce!

What was wrong with the opening theme to 'Sopranos'? It seemed perfect and so well threaded to the landscape being passed through, providing so much information and context for what viewers were about to see. The series included murders but was about corruption, arrogance, cynicism, greed and criminality as joint causes at work.

On this day in 1995 {February 21th} for the first time in seven years, Bruce Springsteen performed live with the E Street Band, the venue was the Tramps Nightclub in New York City... "Murder Incorporated" would be the first song performed in a thirteen song set... Thirty-five years earlier in 1960 Peter Falk would receive a 'Best Supporting Actor'* nomination for the movie 'Murder, Inc.'... * Lost to another Peter; Peter Ustinov for 'Spartacus'...

That goes to show that a) it's still very much a matter of taste (I feel like all of the bands you listed kind of lean one way musically and it's not a way I personally enjoy longterm); and b) "of our time" can be pretty relative - how long ago did Led Zeppelin break up again? :P As much as I like Springsteen, my pick for the honour is Mark Knopfler. :-) (Basically I tried to do a list of examples of Knopfler's eclectic output here, and failed on account of it getting too long to work as a punchline...) But more than that, I think as much as I like either musician, picking one over another is kind of silly. The best ones - and both Springsteen and Knopfler fall into that category - have a lot of influences and musicians they admire themselves, and isn't life much richer that way?
