From Kelvington, SK, 6'0 220lbs, Joey Kocur was among the NHL's fiercest enforcers of the 80s and 90s, with feared punching power in both hands. Joey has said that he would picture punching the back of an opponents skull so that he punched through their face... Joey racked up over 2500 Career Penalty Minutes over 15 seasons with Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers, and briefly the Vancouver Canucks.

Wild how the announcers assumed Kyte was kooked because he hit his head on the ice. Then you watch the slo-mo replay and see how he was out on his feet and then Kocur got him one more right before they hit the ice. Head never touched the ice, just pure punching power!

It was reminiscent of the Jonathan-Bouchard fight, Where Jonathan punched Perrie while he was down. What code ?

No, Kocur punched Kyte when his head was two inches above the ice, driving his head into the ice. That was more common back in the 80's and 90's than now, but is still disgusting to look at today. If anyone ever claims that Kocur was a clean or classy fighter, that was all the counterargument anyone would need to disprove them

Growing up in New York, I loved Kocur because, first and foremost, he was a great teammate. He stood up for his guys, and they loved him for it. While he patrolled the ice, he also brought leadership to the Rangers and any team he was on.

Kocur and the NHL tough guys were who I looked up to and watched this game for. This was back in the era when a lot of guys were Canadian farm boys from BLUE COLLAR BACKGROUNDS, and there were no curved sticks. Thanks for these vids they bring back when hockey was at its peak. Gaetz was a good scrapper too, but a very brief time in the NHL.

No my curved sticks? Sorry, but you're wrong. Curved sticks started in the 1960's, led by Bobby and Dennis Hull.

@@DonBlue-vy4ke Oh sorry and thanks for correcting me! Bobby Hull was one of the biggest legends so I'm surprised I didn't know. I still enjoy hockey a lot, but not the way the league is run now- that's all.

Kocur is top 5 all-time. The hardest puncher in NHL history. Pretty good selection for top 5 fights. The Kocur vs Eagles fight was awesome too. Joey both stints with the Wings were a gift for Wings fans.

It's crazy how much power Joey had when he was in tight. He could hit in the same way Donald Brasher could......you know that in tight kinda noogie thing Brash used to do except Joey could easily knock you out while doing it wheras with Brash it seemed more of an annoyance. I can't rememeber anyone else being able to do this in the NHL. He did it to both Caulfield and Manson in this clip. At the same time if you tried to go toe to toe with him, you were easily exposed to his insane right hand as well and he could just as esily knock you out like that too. I think this is why Joey did so much damage back in the day.

@@soundbreak7 I'm not knocking Kocur at all and he is tough as they come as was Probert. Just bringing light to a very underrated tough guy many may have never heard of so others can look into it and judge for themselves. Saying he bloodied them piques more interest than just claiming he was tough.

@jaysonb.6669
@jaysonb.6669 26 күн бұрын
But he was always game to step in and that's usually all you need as an enforcer to make the other team take notice. Some of the toughest guys in the league would lose confidence after a bad beatdown or KO and their career's completely folded afterwards. Not Caufield.
