In this fourth and final chapter of the outlaw years, I will examine William Henry Roberts' account of his escape from the Lincoln County Jail. Additionally, I will compare Roberts' statements with those presented in the book, The Saga of Billy the Kid by Walter Noble Burns to show that the new claim by neo-historians, that Roberts obtained his knowledge of Billy the Kid by memorizing the Burns book is completely unfounded and not based on facts.

There's more proof that Brushy Bill was The Kid, than proof he was not. Brushy Bill knew the smallest details of factual events that only a person who'd lived them himself could have recalled.

Burns was a great fiction writer. 10 gauge dbl ought buckshot holds 18 pellets per shell not 9, 10 gauge single ought buckshot is 10-12 pellets depending on the shell length. Another win for Brushy Bill. I’m quite a bit younger than Brushy Bill. I’ve read things that I’ve read before over and over and I still don’t remember every detail, hence the need to re-read. No way he memorized books to give these details that line up with factual accounts to the extent that he did plus showing locations like the cave.

+1 The same people who say Brushy Billy did read, study and memorize all those books and articles about Billy the Kid's life also say Brushy was illiterate! I guess, if someone sides with 'The House' against Billy and Reality, they own the privilege to tell all the lies, fabrications and hypocrisies... as if they're simply reciting official records.

i just found your channel , been enjoying your vids immensely , well you've convinced me ,specially with the facial recognition and features ,all the old knife and bullet wounds in the correct places , i mean how many pranksters were runnin around getting shot and stabbed in the right places to think to themselves "yeah i think i'll pretend to be Billy the kid" , too many accurate recollections that some guy would have to make it his life's mission to try to weave together and collect from a hundred different locations and people that confirm his versions of what happened , not like the fantasy versions that don't hold water from the historian eggspurts , i was in the court house in 1994 , thinking of the stairs , if Bell was bolting down he would be exposing his left side for the shot to enter and leave his right side as the dogleg in the stairs i thought turned left towards the bottom , Garrett says the wound in the opposite way doesn't he, i know most of the time he lied though , but i found that a bit odd , in comments there's a few that don't watch the video's properly or maybe don't rewind to re listen , apart from the surviving mansions in the south my three favourite places to walk and soak up the atmosphere and feel the air are Deadwood , Tombstone's Birdcage and Lincoln , thanks for sharing , cheers big ears from down under

@@brushybret Excellent Narration. Are you aware of the following: 🔹DNA Confirmed that Billy the Kid actually lived until he died of Natural Causes in his late 70's or early 80's. He made an effort to reveal the truth, but wasn't believed. He literally lived his life, God Bless him. That had to take some restraint for a young man with reasons to retaliate. Garrett must have made arrangements with Billy to make his story stick. He wasn't the turncoat everyone thought he was. Mr Hall, you are to be commended for your extraordinary perseverance in presenting the facts regarding Billy the Kid. There is a KZbin channel titled all things Billy the Kid which simply presents the mainstream narrative, declaring Brushy Bill Roberts to be a liar. What stands out most to me is the fact that Roberts did not seek out recognition. If William Morris had not sought out Mr. Roberts, he would have never disclosed the information he had. And his descriptions, which were contrary to period pieces written about The Kid, yet, in the end, proved to be more accurate, is the closer. If Brushy Bill was not The Kid? Then someone needs to find an active participant in the Lincoln County war, who was close enough to Billy that they witnessed all those events in real time, but has been overlooked by everyone who has studied those events. No one can know for certain. However, based upon the facts as presented in these videos, it is my belief that Brushy Bill Roberts was, in fact, William H Bonney, AKA Billy the Kid. I always had a problem with Pat Garrett's account of killing The Kid. Billy demonstrated a unique capacity for survival, even in the most unlikely circumstances. To me, the thought that he would inepty stumble into a room with the man hunting him down is such a ridiculous fiction, that it warrants no serious consideration.

I used to study billy quite a lot, thought I knew my stuff and never believed brushy. However after some podcasts and these videos… I’ve begun to wonder. The night he was supposedly killed, why did he go in a room of English speakers and speak Spanish? I understand pete was Hispanic, but he told pat in English “that’s him” so why did billy reply to that in Spanish? Secondly, at 90 this man had a very vivid memory, makes you think there’s some truth. Along with friends verifying him… I think there’s a good shot he either was billy, or was his best buddy through it all… funny that the jail records don’t recount a buddy being arrested with him.

A descendant of Pat Garrett and a detective did a forensics investigation on those stairs and found where a pool of blood once was at the bottom of the stairs but nothing at the top when they exposed the staircase to luminol.

You have that backward as they did find blood at the top of the stairs, and it was o-tolidine that was used to identify the blood. I quote from the sources in the video.

@Brett Hall That's right. They were trying to say that Billy shot him while he was at the bottom of the stairs. All I remember is the luminol told a different story than the official account.

Let's say Brushy was lying...that would mean he was one of the greatest researchers and Billy the Kid historians EVER! Out of all the conflicting accounts, how did Brushy always know which version to go with? When one account says that when Tunstall was killed, Billy chased after some turkeys and another says Billy was yards behind Tunstall, when others went after the turkeys; so how did Brushy know which version was accurate? How did Brushy know Billy traded his tintype to a woman for a scarf? How did Brushy know Bell had two gashes on his head, matching his version of clubbing him with handcuffs? How did Brushy know who Billy was chained to, in the wagon after his capture? Not to mention he knew the exact layout of the Maxell house, Tunstall's residence and the Lincoln County Courthouse, during the 1800's. Don't forget this was all in the 1940's and 50's, with no internet to easily access all of this information... The law didn't give Billy a fair deal his entire life, and it didn't in his final days as well, 70 years later. RIP, Brushy Billy the Kid Roberts

I believe BTK is Brishy. I think you have the best BTK channel as well. Only criticism would be, using your own logic and sources; etc.. How can you use PG book on BTK as a credible source when it confirms Brushy's story, but discredit it when it deviates from his account or other sources? While the other sources do not line up with each other on a lot of facts either. Therefore, cannot discredit Garrett based on Brushy, and one or more sources agreeing with one another. Also a lot of the books came out after his account and therefor could agree with his account by fact of bias or hearing his testimony outright. Regardless his story rings true, it's overwhelming IMO. I only critique the above mentioned because as a supporter of your take, I want to close any contradictory arguments against this view in order to strengthen the position.

There's actually no proof of that. In fact, the only mention of it is Walter Noble Burns' book, and most historians now believe that the interviews in his book are pure fabrications. This is discussed in Billy the Kid: His Life and Legend by Jon Tuska, Inventing Billy the Kid by Stephen Tatum, and Billy the Kid: A Bio-Bibliography by J.C. Dykes.
