In this episode, I review books about Brushy Bill in the chronological order in which they were released. I also discuss the qualifications and accomplishments of these researchers and authors to determine if the claim made by neo-historians that no legitimate researcher, author, or historian ever believed Roberts'claim to being Billy the Kid, has any merit.

Bret, I owe you an apology. I am sorry for discounting your research without ever looking into the facts. I was very wrong. After looking into the Jesse James case and Brushy Bill, I now realize certain truths I would not let myself previously believe. Thank you for having the fortitude to present the truth in the face of so much adversity.

100% I agree. There are other channels with large subscriber counts who keep spouting the same old nonsense that continues to perpetuate the same old misinformation campaign, that Brett has shown to be categorically false. Classics such as "brushy was Ollie P Roberts and therefore too young, or Brushy could not speak spanish whereas Billy could, or he claimed to be in dalton gang prior", among others that are as equally ridiculous and easily disproved. Honestly though at the very least, if one is not convinced with all the evidence Brett has compiled and laid out, it should open the discussion again to take a closer look into Brushy Bill by the academic community. It deserves this at the very least, what it does not deserve is for the same old false narratives to be continually regurgitated and for others Brett what you have put together is simply put, amazing, Hopefully when billy the kid season 2 rolls out, the youtube algorithm gives you a boost.

Thanks for the book reading list and all things Brushy. I’d be scared too, to be faced with police and Pat Garrett’s relatives and the media, if I was seeking a pardon for the loss of a life. It must’ve really been frightful, especially if you were holding that secret all your life. Having a stroke is not surprising. Also, not being able to remember is also a part of having a stroke. Geez, the folks who want to just say something like that would be easy on an old fella is just amazingly callous and disingenuous. The mockery of a man knowing his own guilt , seeking a pardon at that age was something he sought all along. If he didn’t do it , then why would he at all seek a pardon for a crime he didn’t commit? I’d be afraid they might wanna hang me , right then and there. If I was faced with that much fire power and weaponry. I think It would be hard to enter a room like that. I want to hear more about Osthimer and the real reason to keep the legend and not the truth. I absolutely can not wait for that video. I wanna thank you Mr. Hall for all that you are doing. I hope the truth eventually is resolved. That sir, would make “history” itself.

The University of Texas - El Paso has a lot of materials from Morrison and Sonnichsen. I believe they have the microfilm collection as well. However, I would contact them before making the trip to confirm this, as some places require you to reserve the time. Not to mention, you're facing about an eight-hour drive. Please be advised that it will take you days to view the contents of all four rolls, as you might be surprised as to how many documents are actually on each roll of film. Also, the last time I was at UTEP (about 15 years ago) the library was terribly understaffed.

I can’t stand that fella and he’s no historian (all things billy the kid) He’s a script writer and producer and author with no real credentials as far as I can tell. Obnoxious and self interested. At least I know Steve Sederwall from college. Steve’s done some good things in relation to the Courthouse finds in Lincoln County Courthouse related to investigation of blood there. I think he’s right about the loss of tourism if the truth comes out at some point. Economic loss drives a lot of communities these days. I just hope there can be celebration when all becomes known and drives new tourism and interest in truth.

@@bobandmaryw4336 You are 100% correct Bob. I have asked him several times if he has ever read any of the authors who support the Brushy Bill side. His comment was, " no he had no need to. " I then asked him how he could be so sure without hearing both sides---- No answer. He is also hung up on Brushy being Ollie P. Roberts even though there is a ton of evidence that the Ollie and Brushy both existed. On several of his shows sometime back he swore that he knew there was no such person known as Billy Barlow. He had to eat crow on that one when his gravesite was found in the Fort Sumner cemetery . LOL. I'm of the belief there is no one burred in the Kid's gravesite and Garrett buried Barlow where he lies now

Brett Hall I wanted ask you a couple of serious questions if you don't mind though bare with me a second as its a little long. I've watched several videos, but yours exclusively. In most of the comments in the other video's some neo historian comes up with a theory that Roswell is 80 miles away and a 4 day ride (read one way). Which in fact is 50 miles at best, and maybe a 4 day round trip. This said, their argument is Roswell was the only place that may have a camera. Yet we have pictures of him that were taken at Sumner. One in particular that gets him mixed up as left handed. There's even a photo of him when Garrett captured him with his posse... see where question is leading? If not here it is, has anyone ever took the time to investigate the thought that yes there were cameras around the area at the time? I mean why would Garrett be sure to photograph The Kid with his posse, when arrested at Stinking Springs and yet fail to do so when he is dead? We sure as hell can't say Garrett was afraid of disgracing the Kid or his family in such a manner. White Oak had a newspaper at the time and is listed as only being able do drawn pictures per their Web page for 1870 White Oak Golden Era. So I'm sure that could be ruled out... But how about the famous witter depicted in Young Guns as having so much to crap to move, especially after the Indians happen upon them.(Emerson Hough). A poke at the movies humor. Or even the Maxwell's having someone there available to snap a photo.. I know this is reach but so far, so is pretty much anything Kid related, and if your Garrett you'd really be reaching to sell that crock without further proof. My basic point is, if, if the Kid was really dead and I highly doubted it as the terms behind the reward collection barely match the terms laid upon for collection, seems Garrett would have made a ton of money. One other question comes to mind... whatever became of Billy's original pearl handed weapons, let alone the one he was carrying the night he was suppisedly killed? The one Garrett claims The Kid was able to walk past two armed deputies carrying it and a knife. Was it ever logged in evidence? Oddly it is left of history unless I missed a police report somewhere. It's as if it never existed. Surely Garrett would have hung on to it as he did the shotgun. Garrett was a collector of memerobllia, surely those items couldn't just fade of this earth could they?
@brushybret
@brushybret Жыл бұрын
Excellent points! I'm actually going to discuss them in my next video. The gun the man was carrying when he was shot at Maxwell's was a .41 caliber, whereas it was commonly known that Billy preferred .44's. Garrett took Billy's weapons from him during his surrender at stinking Springs however, we know that Billy took two .44 revolvers from the armory when he escaped from Lincoln. As far as photographers go: Well, like you said, we know that the famous Dedrick-Upham tintype photo was taken just outside of Beaver Smith's saloon in Ft. Sumner, so we know for a fact that a photographer was, at the very least, in the general area. I think the fact that Garrett always refused to sign an affidavit stating that he killed Billy the Kid speaks for itself. Thanks for watching.
@BrushyBill-eo5og
@BrushyBill-eo5og Жыл бұрын
@@brushybretyour reply as it is was as hoped. You realized I left out the .41/.44 debate. I as well left out the gun in tree scenarios. If he had left a pair of .44’s we would have seen 2 for sale.. but Garret was sure to state though The Kid had stolen 2 .44’s and yet we know only one Billy leaves behind so one is missing. We are also led to believe Billy’s found later sneaking his way past two deputies carrying a .41. Highly improbable, he had little use of anything but a .44 history shows this on multiple occasions. For this to take place would require a loss of the second .44 and no one ever mentions hey I found this .44. Though I imagine finding a gun was not rare, it’d be rare with all this stuff going that no one said so and so found this.. and may be one of the stolen guns. I’m sure the armory held the serial numbers so even today it could be traced. If found sold pawned what not. This leads me to another thought.. Billy was inflated by the news press, pressuring the government for action. Yet no person other than Garrett ever claimed to killing him and few tried. One nice lady who was running the running the museum in 01 told me of the town being held hostage by the Regulators and all the lawless events that took place, yet only Regulators I hear of being shot are done so by underhanded events, or by Garrett which would be the same, with exception of BuckShot Roberts. Or killed in shoot outs. Yet the town that was supposedly under such a harsh attack that involved numerous of felony events, never shot a single regulator in the back, so her story held no claim to me. Bet you 25 bucks in 1880 money I’d have shot someone for half of her claims just to clear my conscious of their being. I do ponder another sort of oddity Brushy shares the same last name as BuckShot just saying. I’ve read in a few stories, at the time Garrett made his was to Lincoln he was so broke Billy gave him a horse, as well as the story of Maxwell making note Garrett’s reaction from dishwasher to half owner of Beaver’s store at Sumner. It’s a note as to how he got there with a relationship to Billy. Any hints to fact on this? Is there place hosting the original conversations Morrison held? Sort of tired with the 2nd 3rd and even 5th story pick a part of the conversation. Hell I’d even read the transcript if I could find one that’s not a part of someone’s opinion or book. But rather in its raw form, from noted and recording. One last thought Hines made the claim which opened this all up. I’m sure there’s proof floating somewhere he was originally an outlaw and original name proven? Have you found any? History seems to overlooks that point. I mean a man who lives under an alias surely had to prove he lived as an outlaw to gain his brothers property would had to have some kind of way proving who he was… then after proving who he claimed to be pointing his finger towards Brushy as Billy, who was at times a friend and an enemy. I find hard to digest if his claim was run with no evidence, Especially with Billy’s/ Brushy testimony against him. Note till this time I kept Billy separate, and shall continue, yet this court evidence would be damning one could conclude considering those facts. For any following along and to Brett as well, I cleaned my very original post as it was late and I was using an older device to type the message. Though kept original as foul so meaning was not affected. I subscribed and look forward to both future videos and correspondence with you sir, great work.

I should say, I’m a 80’s era soldier and carried a .45. M16 a2. Both weapons I am highly proficient with. When the 9 mm was being released in the .45’s place I no longer found myself employed with the service. I won’t get into the whole this is better stuff, jamming wasn’t as common with a .45 as it was as common for a firing pin to fail. My life depended on familiar equipment that functioned as intended. A gun was a tool and you don’t rake the yard with a broom. Enough said.😊

To Bret. What EXACTLY was Roberts asking for by way of a pardon? The murder of Brady or conspiracy to murder Brady? I was very interested in Roberts description of the boy bringing him a rope after he embarrassed himself falling of the horse in the jail break Lincoln County. I have always been interested or surprised at my own recollections of trivia ,when you would think you would concentrate on the the more sensational. Example. I walked into a house in which a man sat looking at me seated in a chair, shot through the head with a gun at his side. His 3 very young children were lying side by side on a sofa to my left as if sleeping, but were also shot indivdually through the head. Having established my immediate threat was dead ,i was overwhelmed by the heat in the room and noticed the gas fire on full, which i immediately turned off.[window of time of death was not an issue]. My recollection , when it returns occassionally is not his face or the children but the fire and heat. Believing a witnesses account is often in the seemingly meanless detail.

Brett i asked about the guns, but have another question. If the Kid was born 23 Nov 1859 to William Patrick McHenry, why has no one posted it’s findings? I won’t lie, he dies in battle 1865, they’d have a list of kin, battles fought, and last fought….yet no historian I’ve seen yet tells of this civil war hero meeting his demise, which sadly, is so far close to ending, yet he fatally falls. He’s listed as Catherine’s husband and a means of tracking her. Though Indiana states a marriage of her to Antrim in Huntsville Indiana, only real papers show i. Silver City. But that’s past my original question.

@@hapyharyhard0n581 Yes, I'm a big fan of Dave Mustaine and Megadeth. You're actually the first person to pick up on that in the comment sections of my videos, so kudos for that. As far as the ears go, the person that promotes the ear theory is using a manipulated photograph. This is all detailed in John Meigs report to the Lincoln County Heritage Trust in the late 1980s and has been discussed by acclaimed western photograph historian, Robert McCubbin. In the original tintype, the image was so deteriorated from not being stored properly that parts of the image were no longer visible, like the ears. The image was restored by a man by the name of Noah Rose. I discuss this in my video on physical similarities between Roberts and the Kid and discuss the facial recognition study conducted by two PhD scientists at the University of Texas-Austin which concluded that Roberts and the man in the tintype were a statistical match. The study used an internationally recognized facial recognition program. The same system used by law enforcement agencies all over the world. Furthermore, the methods used were peer-reviewed and published in two separate scientific papers and the results were confirmed by two independent arbiters. Here is a link to that video kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2muoayHicl1nM0&lc=UgyLIv4zEw_iodpL0QN4AaABAg.9toce9xkyWY9tolHYVD5k3 As far as the poker and croquet pics go: First, were not even sure if either photograph is actually Billy the Kid as both photographs are highly contested by western photograph historians. But even if both photos were determined to be the Kid, the ears really aren't visible in either photograph to make a determination as to if they're attached or detached. I will probably do a follow-up video on this in the future, as I interviewed an ear expert as well as an expert on old west period photographs who told me that in order to make a proper determination of whether the ears are attached or detached, this really needs to be done with a side profile photograph as sometimes the way an individual is wearing their hat could make attached ears appear detached.
