Akane said it kept falling off, a pain to keep on. It was her decision. Miku is Founder and Spokespigeon, but she is not a dictator. They are all individuals. So lobbying Miku to tell Akane to put it back on is really disrespectful of Akane (who BTW is the eldest of them). Miku started them out with near identical uniforms, but not everyone was thrilled with that and developed their own interpretation of a "maid dress." Saiki and MISA with black gowns and Akane with her "battle shorts" are all quite different. All good IMHO. I personally really prefer seeing Akane's hair flying free when she gets going. But it's her choice regardless what I think.

Can't remember which interview it was with Akane, but the story of the hat was that she stopped wearing it as it had to be strapped on so tight that it was uncomfortable for her. With the amount of energy she puts into the drums, I can see why.

This 26 song concert DVD/BD is bar none, the absolutely best hard rock show I've every seen. They relentlessly play their hearts out on some of the best written hard rock songs ever composed (thank you Kanami and Miku)... and barely break a sweat. And they've been doing that at every show they play for years - big or small. I still think about the night I met them and saw them perform live. Attending a Band-Maid concert has got to be on every rockers bucket list, and hopefully for 2021!

This concert mix is stronger! Notice Saiki is missing her shoes, lost them the song before to the crowd. Misa and Saiki are having fun with it. Misa plays Black Cloud Basses, Kanami has PRS guitars, Miku plays Zemiatus guitars and Akane uses Tama drums. These ladies sure can rock!

Being a Band Maid fan feels like watching a brilliant painter, one that you know won't be fully appreciated by the world for many decades to come. It's bittersweet, in a way.

I get that. But remember that the commercial recording industry is an echo chamber these days, and the most interesting acts are underground as indies or on small labels. Seeing names promoted on the Clear Channel prefab radio system and TV appearances only proves there are record executives who decided to push them as products. That is all. Fairly meaningless to serious music lovers, though occasionally the artist MIGHT be good. In real life, people are excited about Band-Maid and sharing them. And the fan base is WAY bigger than their lamestream media presence. Evidence: Last December they dropped Conqueror on us, with digital format first. Within 48 hours it was #10 album download on iTunes. Not just Japan. WORLDWIDE. Then Billboard showed the standing of album sales in all forms through all channels... and Conqueror was at #11 for international sales of hard rock albums. That takes a lot of people buying their album, waiting for it to drop and jumping on it. I am reminded of Rush some years ago. They gradually got more and more fans though radio airplay was not common. They were unusual and did long compositions. "Tom Sawyer" is the only tune most people could name. But their concerts were sold out and their album sales were massive and other musicians still speak of them with awe. I think we are seeing it happen again. Band-Maid is a tremendously popular band already and gaining fans daily. They are a grassroots movement. Pop media is irrelevant to that, IMHO.

When Saiki and Misa were interacting, I think Misa was laughing at her because Saiki had lost her heels after being pulled into the crowd towards the end of the previous song Freedom. You can kinda tell that Saiki is a bit flat footed. Miku had to finish singing that one.

THIS was the ONE. 3rd video (studio version) I saw. The drums just never stop moving. Listen to it again. Listen to Akane progress through multiple beats in every section! She just can't sit still. But then she never gets in the way, it is always perfectly designed to support what everyone else is doing. And then the build up to and the guitar solo! This was the one where I realized I would be as into this band than I was Rush when I was growing up. They have never let me down.

I see a similar pattern of popularity with Band-Maid as with Rush. Rush was too original for 3 minute pop songs and was ignored or panned by music industry press for years. But fans and fellow musicians developed great respect, record sales were great, concerts sold out for as long as they could continue. They had more consecutive gold and platinum albums than anyone except the Beatles and Elvis. They are legend. Band-Maid is also a grassroots phenomenon. Fans spread the word. Typically it's one listen and you're hooked. Within 48 hours of the digital drop of Conqueror last December, it was #10 in album downloads on iTunes, worldwide. Same thing happened just after the CD release, overall sales in all forms internationally for hard rock albums was at #11, worldwide again, per Billboard. Both groups have/had over the top writing and live performances, from talented, creative, and very hardworking individual members with no weak links at all. Two very different groups, but so many parallels, especially in the way the fans and musicians relate.

Just a FYI Misa plays a Black Cloud SG Bass primarily she is a signed exclusive artist of theirs. All the member's are signed exclusive by their respect guitar brands. Akane is signed by TAMA drums, Kanami is to PRS, Miku to Zimutus, and Misa to Black Cloud.

@@cristobalfernandeziv She uses a couple of different microphones depending on what songs they are performing during the set. She Primarily uses a Sennheiser e 935, and a Shure KSM8 Dualdyne. However she had surgery back in 2018-19 IIRC and and belive she only uses the Sennheiser now.

This is one of my very very favorite songs from Band-Maid... I got blown away by "Blooming" that made me want to know all about them but "REAL EXISTENCE" was the song that just melted me and now keep melting with any song from them from "Maid In Japan" to "Conqueror"... and this live performance of "RE" is just awesome... I saw you already reacted to "FREEDOM" from this year's live, but you really should check (if available somewhere) the "FREEDOM" version of this Zepp Tokyo 2018... if you take a closer look in this video, Saiki doesn't have her shoes on... that's because, in the previous song, "FREEDOM", she took them off to climb the fence that holds the crowd, she gets on top, barefoot, singing almost engulfed by the fans and as she climbs out and just disapears, Miku sings Saiki's final part of the song (with some big effort to reach those higher notes) ... after wrapping up "FREEDOM", Saiki gets back and "REAL EXISTENCE" starts... it's a MUST watch! These two songs from Zepp Tokyo 2018 should always come together... Great reaction... going to subscribe! Cheers!!

Band Maid Rocks!! My favorite band by a mile these days. Just saw a MV of another Japanese all female rock band named Nemophila song was called Dissension, IT. WAS. AWESOME!! I understand the feeling you're expressing with "it's not fair" but must disagree. Japan takes music education seriously. My understanding is you have to be proficient on at least two different instruments to graduate high school. So it starts really early. Then, the music schools. Where students tend to be largely female because the majority of guys are following various other courses and careers. All this time the kids are studying and practicing and experimenting, because to do anything less than 110% would be dishonorable. Then as they can get into the very competitive music business they continue that mindset and all out effort and development. Example: After joining Band-Maid, with everyone continuously learning and perfecting their instrument skills, MISA was working on slap bass technique so intensely that she developed blisters and bleeding... and THEN they were notified that studio recording time was available. So what did she do? She went into the studio and played ANYWAY. So, is their insane skill level fair? I think so because they have worked for it and dearly earned it with blood, sweat and probably tears. Talent they have unquestionably. Their songwriting depth and coordination of complex, multi-layered compositions are amazing. But their performance and sounds are built also on their constant development and over the top work ethic. They earned every ability the hard way, with years of work, no shortcuts. And still maintained their enthusiasm which makes them such a joy to see and hear. Okay. That said, I think the Japanese would understand your expression. They have social customs of obligation if someone does something for you, and it is understood you might actually resent a favor or gift for that reason. In fact, the importance and desirability of a gift is typically acknowledged with appreciation by saying "Oh, this poisonous feeling!" with a smile. It's like saying, this is such a great gift and my obligation to you is so equally great, I'm really resenting what I must do to even things up. So it's all good. I just wanted to make the point that Band-Maid did not coast into the level they're at. They climbed that mountain and are still doing it.

Great reaction, thumbs up. Misa I think is playing a custom Black Cloud bass, a Black Smoker that's custom made for her. Her stack is a Orange 4-STROKE-300. Recently she got a red SG/Precision bass which she'll play sometimes too.

hard to find... but..if you like the faster/heavier drums? MORATORIUM. It's a bit harder to find on youtube, sadly, but well worth it. And yeah this show CRUSHES it for MIsa's bass tone. I believe her brand is a small maker called Black Cloud. Speaking as a (bad) bassist.... her tone is pure eargasm.

Hey Man, you should check out the instrumental, Onset (live) from the same concert in 2018. You will enjoy it and for an MV, you should give Rinne a try. Do not do the live of Rinne, its for a TV show and shortened by over a minute.

Check also another female Japanese band called Lovebites, they play power metal and thrash metal. Recommended songs: Holy War, Thunder Vengeance, Break The Wall. They play more harder with 80s vibe.

You've probably already heard this, but if you like the heavier drums, you should check out their music videos for both Rinne and Blooming. Note ONLY the music videos. They're both newer songs so there's not really concert footage of them and there's also a live version of Rinne done for a tv spot that's cut in half so you'll want to stick to the MVs. We all loved the Little Hat. But I can understand why she retired it. At one point MISA wore the Little Hat. MISA plays Black Cloud Basses exclusively these days.

hello bryan. great band and reaction. may I draw your attention to my favourite japanese all female band? the are called "lovebites" and play real metal. for a checkout I would recommend: "thunder vengeance", "holy war", "dancing with the devil" or "hammer of wrath" all Zepp Diver City Tokyo 2020. good quality. and the ladies are superawesome. and drummer haruna is a sweet beast. check them out. you won´t regret it. greetings from germany.
