Gunnery officers on the Beast need to get their eyes checked. They missed more than half their shots at close to point blank range. Aside from that, its a thing of beauty to see the Pegasus.

Do remember that aiming in space, especially at even a somewhat long range, is extremely difficult. Hitting accurately would need better targeting computers, which would risk Cylons hacking the entire system.

This is NO BUCKET, NO BUCKET! Loving how the Basestars are actually taking advantage of their advanced FTL to repeatedly jump out of danger.
@pioneer_11483 жыл бұрын
Their problem that they are totally reliant on missiles and fighters, both of which are hard countered by the flak screen. There simply isn't anything they can do. Their only chance is to get one base star on either flank of the Pegasus and any Battlestar commander worth their salt can prevent them from doing that.

@@pioneer_1148 and the Modern Basestar has only two missiles slots which makes No sense.

Yeah, the modern basestars only party trick compared to the earlier ones are the "marginally" better raiders, and hull regen making them surprisingly tanky, but get on top of them to pummel thier engineering and they'll still die. And they WILL run out of missiles eventually. Give them munition regen and a price hike and they'll be good.
@darrenlaker32043 жыл бұрын
They should be offensively jumping so at least one basestar is on the side with no flak. Then at least half of the missile attacks will get through. Bad AI

Imagine if the game was real -time strategy and you could actively control your ship and its powerful weaponry.

You may like a game called Dreadnought. It's not an RTS but it involves controlling your ship and duking it out with other big ships.
@jordanrocksdj3 жыл бұрын
I tried it a few weeks ago and it’s pretty cool. Did you ever play Battlestations: Midway 10 or so years ago? You control ships, destroyers, subs, and carriers and can take direct control of ships including the fighters launched from carriers. If you don’t actively aim your guns while in control the AI takes over and fires at targets in range. It was a great game.

I just put my hands on the "Modern Ships" DLC: first battle I made, in skirmish, was Galactica (Jupiter-class Mk.2) and Pegasus (Mercury-class) vs 4 Cylon Basestars, as the battle of New Caprica. Even if fully loaded with missiles and cluster-nuke the 2 Colonial Battlestars' flaks were basically impenetrable both to them and all the cylon fighters (I kept just the Jupiter as "frontliner", to make it aggroed by all the 4 Basestars, and her flaks were even too much). Once they had no more missiles, it was just a steamroll...
@WildCharger2 ай бұрын
It does feel a bit of an exaggeration in this game how utterly impenetrable flak shields are when boosted by posture. We could theoretically give whatever excuse we wanted - but I think the most realistic one is that, in an actual scenario of this magnitude, there would be at least a couple missiles that get through, and ammunition to deploy flak would not be infinite. But those are sort of the things you have to allow leeway for because game logic. If it was 100% fully faithful to reality, it’s not, because at least a small majority of the civilian ships, even in the reimagined Galactica, have nothing to arrest their own momentum. If it was 100% faithful to the show, then I highly doubt they’d want to just run the clock and hope that the Basestars just.. run out of missiles eventually, whilst a much larger amount of Raiders use overwhelming numbers to at least put a heavy dent in Viper numbers, or strategically take out a ship’s FTL, etc. There’s a lot of possibilities.

It occurs to me that, after years of the show and these games, we've never once heard, "Frakking flak."
@oldsportthekiddiestrangler75662 жыл бұрын
My strategy for this battle if I was the Cylons would've been to make a quick jump to the rear of the mercury class ship, keeping some distance to not get vaporized by the guns. And then fire off my nukes. And if they started the flak I'd then put my raiders to defend my ships from the incoming ordinance(so I don't lose one of my only defenses against ordinance). With the Mercury either dead or heavily wounded. I'd keep peppering it while having another Basestar make a quick jump and fire off the ordinance. Killing the ship while keeping my distance from enemy ships. And if they turn, I keep jumping to the opposite sides making sure to be hitting from 2 separate sides. And I'd make sure to hack some systems. Especially the weapons to be able to get a better range and shut down the Armory preventing flak from vaporizing my missiles.
@ferriusnillan53233 жыл бұрын
That MIRV's flying into the flack was very nasty move tbh, but very clever too. What would me even clever is to jump above and below Pegasus and overwhelm it systems with hack, being just at the range to use it to shutdown its weapons, propulsion and the rest of the ship following the suit.

In Battletech, I was once asked, why I dedicate so much tonnage to AMS and point defense weaponry instead of going just for capital weapons. True, in that game a war ship can take a lot of punishment, but if you can stay in the game for a few round longer those defense weapons will benefit more than one capital weapon.

I kinda feel the balancing of the Modern Basestars could use some tweaking. Once they run out of missiles*, they are basically useless. The Battlestar can turn off his flak and engage them head-on. They should probably have a regenerating missile supply that regenerates more slowly than the usual missile cooldown, at least for standand guiding missiles or torpedoes. *) realistically, they should at some point, but we never see any engagement in the series where the fight lasts that long, just as the Galactica and Pegasus never seemed to run out of Flak ammo during an engagement.
