I feel like the song itself and its lyrics focus more on Yoongi's fears related to fame, how the more popular they become the lonelier they feel, a bit like the downsides of fame sometimes seem bigger than the positive things. It reminded me of that time he said that he cried in the shower after winning one of those american awards because he was scared. I think it's also about having to reconcile their stage persona (suga) and their true selves (yoongi). The way he changes his flow, or distort his voice to portray his shadow was really clever and more impactful. The video portrays more what the dark side of fame is to him/them (stalkers following them in hotels, people constantly taking pictures of them and trying to grab them (i think this is mostly about what happens in airports, and the pictures part are both journalists and fans), people constantly filming them as well even during concerts (yoongi said several times that he wished people would stop filming and just enjoy the music) sometimes for money/clout, and the shadows look like there are falling under him so it might represent everything he had to leave behind to get there). I think the video and how it's filmed really makes you feel how suffocating and uncomfortable all these things are. I really felt the loneliness as well, because he's always singled out in the mv. But that's just my takeaway! This was long, but in conclusion I like the song and the message it conveys. I also hope it makes people think about what they do as fans and the boundaries we should always respect! I think even as regular non-toxic fans, we sometimes put unwanted pressure on our favorite artists without even realizing it, even if it comes from a good place.

Shortly said: Even if I wasn't called out I felt called out... The lyrics are sad but it's Yoongi and they're much more powerful and meaningful. The whole thing makes me uncomfortable but I'm glad that they're using the platform they have to speak up about the negative sides of the idol industry. I really hope people open their eyes with this.

I literally just realized after watching it a couple times that the first half is yoongi before he became famous and what he wanted. Also it is him being afraid of his success and being afraid of rising because he knows what goes up must also come down. Then as the song hits the second half his persona has switched and the lyrics are coming from a different point of view, he is telling himself that this dark side of his dreams is something he won't be able to escape. This shadow of his dream is telling him that he KNOWS that it will always be here no matter how bright or dark the future is. And that both sides of his dream will clash over and over again until they accept one another. Another thing that I saw and read about was that towards the start of the second verse where he says "I wanna be me" everyone around him is so focused on his persona of "SUGA" that no one notices "Min Yoongi" standing in the crowd. Maybe this is even stating that he feels that his existence as "Min Yoongi" isn't as impactful and that's what kills him. He wants to be himself, "Min Yoongi" and he wants the be a rap star, etc. but "SUGA" reminds him that without me you can't be what you want to be. Such an amazing and deep song. Yoongi and Joonie have always had a deep understanding of their fame and their music.

I agree with your reaction! Honestly I fell out of BTS a little bit but Suga brought me back in especially with this song! I love how he’s always honest within his music in regards to mental health and finding yourself, it’s one of the reasons why I fell in love with BTS in the first place. And this song is amazing, you could tell he was gifted to help others through his own experience and struggles! 💗

I think Shadows is a "suitable for all audiences" version of The Last, even if Shadow was really freaky and anxiogenic. The end of shadow make me think about the verse "Min Yoongi was already Dead. I killed him." from The Last. Like a clash of Suga vs Agust D. That's a fact that Yoongi was really scared by crowd, and want just to be a songwriter/produccer in a studio at the begining. All of this scared him and he shrug of this in his rap. For all of that i'm really affraid of what Yoongi would feel but i love him so much because his music is so authentic and real. Love Yoongi ❤ One of the best rapper and songwriter. And your reaction are really interesting, i like that you try to analyse the mv and the song ! Good job ! 👌👍

Hey !

I was not a fan of the production, sugah's english is still mushy and not smooth enough to deliver powerful raps in, and frankly that drop was really offensive to the ears for me.
@みしまゆか4 жыл бұрын
If you can't focus on the song, then you can focus on the lyrics. It's a lot deeper if you take notice of the lyrics paired with the visuals in the video (hands, the red on the walls, the change in his tone etc)
@thezokil4 жыл бұрын
@@みしまゆか I know, I'm not being ignorant here, the lyrics feel super disingenuous coming from Sugah now. How can you rap about wanting to be rich and famous and a rockstar when you're already all those things, its super conceited. Now obviously Sugah did not write these lyrics so I won't put it on him,but its hard to take the song seriously when practically none of lyrics apply to him or to BTS
@dee5604 жыл бұрын
@@thezokil you're dumb, the lyrics I wanna be a rapstar, I wanna be the top I wanna be a rockstar and him wanting to win and be the king is him talking about his PAST OLD self wants when BTS were still small and unpopular but the lyrics after is him talking about how he hates the top and how it's scary to be this famous and how he's scared that he'll fall and lose everything because of the eyes on them and how he has no privacy and how alone it feels to be on top. I don't expect much from a kpop stan tho ya'll got used to stupid lyrics that ya'll can't even think and understand complex ones.
@dee5604 жыл бұрын
@@thezokil also yes suga did write the lyrics and produced the song
@thezokil4 жыл бұрын
@@dee560 Then you and Sugah are clowns. BTS has never been small,or nugu, they consistently sold well since day 1,tens of thousands of albums,to hundreds of thousands, to now millions of album. It's laughable you think BTS ever started from the bottom, Y'all a bunch or silver spoon fans who have never had to see your artists struggle for success.
