There are plenty of recent cases that are proof of this. Also, the fact that the media can report lies and face no consequences is yet another issue. Add to all of that, the culture of bullying in Korea is absolutely insane. Bullying from netizens, bullying in classrooms from students and parents is scary. It is the standard, not the exception, for netizens to bully people online with no real consequence. They have ended people's careers, caused people to unalive themselves. So many teachers have killed themselves due to bullying from parents that teachers left the profession, rallies were held, and if I remember correctly, a hotline was established so teachers would have a safe space to report problems. The government was unconcerned about the amount of teacher suicides until it became international news. Korea is a beautiful country with a rich cultural history. However, it is also a country with some very profound issues that simply cannot be denied!

For us, SUGA is vindicated. Everyone else bellyaching can crawl in a hole and scream to themselves. When the first CCTV came out, I could already tell it was fake, because it was not the scooter SUGA described. You think an ARMY would believe someone else over a BTS member? Over the years, we have seen how much they sacrifice to keep on moving for ARMY. We have been through many things over the years. We know our boys. SUGA coming out and apologizing was his sincere heart to ARMY. No one else. And he did just right. We understood and stand by him wholeheartedly. That is our SUGA. He was never perfect, and yet amazing. We love him exactly as he is. He will gain a sense of responsibility from this and mature into a better man, just like any of us who make a similar mistake. We would not want that to happen again, especially if the world is watching. We would be more aware of the law and make advanced arrangements so we get home safely. No one is talking about The first 2 episodes of Jimin and Jungkook drinking and then getting in the passenger seat and allowing the staff to drive. They even had their wits about them to put on their seatbelts. Was that too much of a good example to post on the news? This is how sad the media is. They only want to shovel misery and pain in our faces unless there is some financial benefit to do otherwise.

💜 I noticed that, and I cried the whole week reading about Suga being slandered and abused by his own people. How can Koreans accept such an outburst of hatred and malicious behaviour? It is worse than beasts. It is not human. And to think that the news outlet NEVER made a public correction, apology, firing some of the employees, that even major media outlets kept stressing on ARMY being divided instead of being indignant on the outrage of Korean public over just a minor road infraction, instead of calling people to their senses, made me really sad and angry. I understood why Suga and Hybe were so quick to put up an apology solely in Korean for the Korean fans and public. We International ARMY even without the need of the real footage, believed, and the first reaction was of worries. Not of indignation, not of sarcasm, not of hate, not of slander...ALL the media never questioned JTBC grainy and blurry footage contradicting Suga and Hybe statement, footage which WAS not released by the police and turned out not to be Suga's related. They were so quick to escalate and make an avalanche of pure hatred. Till now, NONE of the media apologised for being the cause of such outrage and harmful public reaction. They let it fester, do they really accept it as normal? A society that cannot accepts that people may err and make mistakes, cannot accept that people accepts responsibility and the lawful punishment and continues to live after that normally, that enjoys sadistically or even accepts to destroy verbally a person by fabricating lies, who appoint themselves as moral judges bypassing the law...that is the spectacle they let the world to see. As a fellow Asian but non-Korean, I was wondering why Korea really seems to hate BTS. That is the impression I am getting as an outsider. It's like their fellow Koreans could not wait for their downfall, and are gleefully grabbing onto anything they could use to throw stones at these boys.
@georgiana31125 ай бұрын
Koreans as a society have a lot of good things but if course a lot of problems also. One of them being the competitiveness and being materialistic- wich brings on envy for the ones that do much better than you and finding excuses about how those people have preferential treatement and you are a victim- that's the reason you are not doing well, not your own incompetence/ circumstances and so on. To that add a wave of "anti-fans", basically fans of other groups from other companies (many times encouraged or organised behind the scenes by those companies) that want BTS out so that their favourite artist can get more awards and recognition (because BTS dominated the award shows for years the other fandoms want them to just be gone). So those 2 categories plus that effect when you attack someone that made a mistake and you get a feeling of moral superiority (I would never do that after drinking- I am a better person), getting attention from that stance and that fuels the attitude of: look, we wouldn't do that, he is awful, he can't be a role model and be famous and so on. Even more complex than I described, but I don't think all of Korea hates them, but these categories alone being very loud, plus the jurnalists that only chase views no matter what (the competitiveness factor plus being paid by other companies or third parties that would gain from BTS downfall)- this is enough to create a smear campain. The same thing happened to the Parasite actor, Goo Hara, Sulli, G Dragon, so it is not just BTS, only that in this case the more famous the more people will be interested even internationally.
@xoxo-x5z5 ай бұрын
Exactly! BTS has done so much for their country yet this is how he's treated. They'll seize every opportunity to tear them apart then ride on their success when it benefits them. If you are new to K entertainment, this same manipulation in the Media led to a Parasite actor to suicide several months ago. K netizens and their vicious media drove him to do iit as they spread malicious lies and the actor felt so hopeless. I'm glad there's an international ARMY supporting.

Media instead of apologizing now demand him to apologized or else. This is ridiculous. Yoongi & BTS had no scandals for them to leash on so now they are milking this. They thought ARMY is like any other fandom & will jump Yoongi instead of seeing him as human, who makes mistakes, will have his back. Like he owned up & apologized & should be the end. But it's not enough for them. Also certain journalist is biting ARMY on twitter. Ignore him. In last week we saw how they try to twist anything to use against Yoongi. Now even saw they say ARMY deman apologizy for dui & not for the misinformation they spread, how cops found him lying drunk passed out & everything he & bighit said is lies. The threat BTS will not be able to be part of music shows etc... Like BTS don't need them but they for sure need BTS.

W the mental health issues and su*ci*e rate in SK, you would think that the media wd have learned a lesson after Mr. Lee from Parasite passed away. Bullying has become a national pastime and it's horrible. How many more celebs will have to hurt themselves before something is decisively done? I'm frightened for idols and celebrities in SK. And it's ironic to me that the media has the nerve to ask Yoongi for more humiliation, after what they've done? They've even tried to blame ARMY for their own mistakes. It's been really eye opening and discouraging. I pray that Yoongi doesn't give in and do any more apologizing or photo ops for the press to twist and profit from. ARMY accepted his apology immediately. The people in Seoul who are "demanding Suga be cut from BTS" are not ARMYs. BigHit needs to TRUST us and not cave to pressure. Thank you for covering this. Poor Yoongi. He doesn't deserve all this. He's a genuinely good, humble person who is living an extraordinary life. He told the truth. What else is there to say? 💜🛡️

It's shameful how BTS is constantly attacked and what they're doing to Yoongi, is just disgraceful! Just to be clear, this is not ruining Suga's reputation but what it is doing is further exposing the cover-ups and corruption in that country. This is strengthening the fandom and creating a stronger bond for Suga and the guys! That country don't deserve these wonderful guys but yet have gained so much revenue because of them! I've decided to only support the them and some other artist under Hybe that I care for. I will not visit and have paused all other spending on products from there. I can no longer contribute to the economic growth of that country if the people that attracted me to S.Korean are being treated so unjustly! Sean, thank you for the update!

Thank God BTS has transcended beyond the K-pop and Korean borders to the point they can withstand attacks of this magnitude. Can you imagine if a lesser group was continuously attacked by kmedia and the general public? That is why I believe it must be BTS that must break the cycle of public bullying in SK by taking the fight directly to them. That is how you stop bullying, not by saying and doing nothing hoping things will settle down. You can fight back without being dirty. I hope they don’t let this moment pass, strike now when the iron is hot and you have proof of the truth. Things can change, as I said in another post, Apartheid and slavery used to be culturally acceptable and laws were written to strengthen those beliefs, but people fought back to make a change. The fans and the people must do their part also by being loud in our protest against SK bully culture, people lives are being destroyed because of this mindset.

Considering the fact that there has been an ongoing smear campaign against BTS for over a year now, I think Yoongi apologizing up front was wise. I truly believe that the media was always going to do this and the sort of people who believed it so easily would have always falled for it. Nevermind the articles never referenced a valid source that the information was coming from. Nevermind the lack of interviews done with literally anyone who would be able to confirm the information. It was just a bunch of articles saying things and no indication of any real journalism taking place. They were written like tabloids where the writers were sure that no one would ask "how do you know" or "where did this info come from"? JTBC is taking the fall on behalf of all of the media sites but each and every one of them who participated needs to be held accountable. And not just the companies but the individuals behind it. The business always takes the fall when it's the individual who makes the choice. Right now we've been contacting JTBC's advertisers to make it clear that we do not appreciate the targeted attacks from JTBC and we as an audience will refuse to patronize the businesses of anyone who continues to work with them. If you are pouring money into corrupt businesses, we have no choice to assume that you endorse the way they do business. Otherwise they would spend their money on media that operates fairly and in good faith with journalistic integrity. I want nothing to do with a business that funds media that weaponizes misinformation and purposely acts in a way that can harm the subject of their reporting.

I would add in a small correction that he was never "taken in" by the police. Their own report stated that they spoke to him, did a breathalyser test which showed he was over the legal limit of 0.08 and so they revoked his licence and stated that a fine would be imposed. They then, by their own statement, said that they then made sure he got home. We can presume that was they watched him go through the gate, walking the scooter to make sure he didn't get back on it. This makes any logical person think that the breathalyser was quite close to the 0.08 limit and not the ridiculous high amount the press are spreading as truth (which is close to the level that sends most normal people to the hospital). If it was that high, it was more likely that they would have brought him in for a blood test which seems to be standard practice for law enforcement around the world as it makes a stronger case for the courts.
@laurawheeler66845 ай бұрын
I would like to add another point or two, he’s reflexes were instantaneous. A person who is moderately or mildly intoxicated, would not have been able to react this quickly. If he was showing any signs of intoxication while operating the scooter/kickstand, like reckless driving, the police surely would have reacted faster than just walking at a moderate pace behind him. They weren’t running after Yoongi to stop him from running others over. Yes, at the end of the day (or night), he broke the law which he wasn’t aware of, HOWEVER he is now. It’s a crazy law that makes minor incidents like this into such a punishable offence because of a seat (or no seat), when there are other more serious crimes against persons (especially women) happening. Ethical journalism is about the reporting the facts without bias, anything less than that, makes all of South Korean journalist look bad. There should be a ‘duty of care’ by both police and media when reporting on others ALLEGED crimes. God bless Suga and the BTS members serving their country to the best of their abilities. I’m sure it is not always easy.😮😢💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Thank you Sean it's so comforting to know that we will get the complete truth out of someone in media who knows the Korean culture and has no problem calling ppl out. Corruption is everywhere, but it seems that S Korea is really bad. It frustrates me as an American who cares about BTS as humans and not just an idol or piece of meat, that they do so much for their country to be treated this way, and we wish we were 1/2 as lucky as them, we don't get private meet and greets, we can't get close to them or talk to them, and we don't stalk attack them at the airport, well some ppl do but not on such a large scale, plus the ppl who do it here are obsessed fans who follow them all over the world and have learned this mentality from the K-pop fans. Why can't fans be normal, you don't see Taylor Swift fans sending death threats or organizing at hate campaign against Beyonce or other American Artist, if you don't like a artist you don't listen to their music or support them period it ends at that, but the idol industry, they are so f*cked up ( sorry ) that mentality needs to change. BTS ( in my opinion ) are not idols, they are Artist/musicians who are unlike anyone in the industry that I know, humble, kind, wouldn't even know they were millionaires. I will take BTS over ANY artist in the entire world of music, no one like these boys and don't think their ever will be again, hell I'm spending money that I really don't have to seriously learn how to speak Korean so I can maybe one day communicate with them, instead of asking them to speak english for me, I want to at least meet them 1/2 way so between their English and my Korean we can at least maybe have a conversation, even though I don't ever see that happening, I would love to talk to Tae about music we have the same taste. Dream on, Dream on😂 if you don't have dreams what else do you have, right ? Right 💜 Sue JTBC, get MHJ laptop kick her out of the industry so she can't hurt anyone, and someone go to Yoon's house maybe their in house Shaman know's MHJ shaman, maybe they know were she/he's at and find out the truth about what really happened with the investigator in the Dior bag scandal death, stop the 3 idols in the burning Sun scandal be prevented from starting up another one so the can no longer take advantage of innocent women, leave poor Yoongi alone, grandpa just fell of his kickboard😂

I agree 💯 that this a smear campaign against BTS. Suga has written and composed a lot of songs for the group that removing him is such a big blow and i dont think the other members will allow it. Their brotherhood is so tight knit that removing one of them will cause for the others to breakdown as well. HYBE lawyers should look into if the scooter he used can be charged with DUI. Some K-ARMY claims that they call the brand as "Quickboard" which they said was advertised as a "kickboard" product tho having a seat doesn't fall under the category of an e-bike or a moped as its very light. They need to investigate JTBC and Yonhap on who is behind this nefarious campaign bcos right now Korean media is a joke. I also believe ARMY will not let this go, ive seen their fanbase protest against misinformation from Western media. They will definitely not let this go unsettled so these media better release an apology soon and take accountability.

The BAC of 0.227 that's been published everywhere has to be suspect doesn't it? At that level of alcohol in his bloodstream, any published BAC vs effects chart says that even standing and/or walking unaided is difficult.... so.. putting on a helmet, riding a scooter in a controlled manner for 500m, finding the right driveway ( 🙂) standing up after the fall, and picking up the helmet and having a conversation with the cops just doesn't add up to someone having that high a BAC.

Being an International Army, I am just so surprised how Korea can show so much hate and is quick to bring down a group that has only spread Love and good messages to them and the world. We are all human, including all members of BTS, and we all make mistakes. Sometimes I feel that the country doesn't deserve them. All these media outlets should be sued for defamation of character.
Suga is such an honest man and I never doubted his words. I had a few top media out of Korea i followed for basic news, but they participated in this whole thing, in truly shocking ways. ARMY was all over them: we unsubbed, called out the particular misinformation, took screenshots etc.. Some have now taken down the stories. I have never in my life, seen a celebrity be such an good human (not perfect, just perfectly human), while openly loving his country and culture devotedly; while that same country, including the main government and media, engage in destructive and hateful behaviour against them. Like.....WHAT?!? You can't even begin to fully count all the ways in which BTS has lifted up and benefitted S. Korea. I have lost all desire to finish out a planned trip there. I used to ask why so many Idols live where I do and keep moving here and now i'm starting to understand. The hate and toxicity, I have heard them all mention, just comes from every angle and seemingly has no bounds. This country treats violent criminals with more dignity than they do actual good citizens, like Yoongi.

It’s jealousy and envy at work unfortunately. I can’t believe how corrupt the SK media seem to be. In a way the society seems to be acting like the nobles at the Joseon court. It amazes me how people are so quick to pass judgement without knowing all the facts. when JTBC released the video the first thought I had was "I can't tell that is SUGA, I know my bias well and its so blurry I can't even tell thats his body. So where is the proof that is Suga." As you said this whole situation was blow way out of proportion that I couldn't even sit on line watch the stupid things being said as I knew there had to be more to it. I'm truely happy the truth has come out. JTBC really needs to work on how they report news. Reporting fake new is wrong on so many levels
