Cool vid brother. I grew up watching "In heat of the night" during the 1980's & '90s. Now the movie that this series was a "spinoff" of was actually filmed in Sparta Illinois. (The train that "Mr. Tibbs" gets off of and leaves Sparta on is a Gulf Mobile & Ohio passenger train. The GM&O quit running passenger train services to the south in 1959.) Not sure about the sequel to it though. The film featured Rod Steiger as Chief Gillespie and Sidney Portiere as "Mr. Tibbs", the homicide detective from the Philadelphia PD. Then Season 1 of the series was shot in I think Slidell Louisiana, hence Amtrak's "City of New Orleans" train with the Amtrak "Heritage Fleet Cars" including the vista dome coach. In most of the episodes, I usually heard the "honking" of what sounded like a K5LA "Air Horn" that most of Amtrak's F40PH's had on them. Then in some of the episodes that were more rural, there were some scenes that had a Chessie System ex WM "ugly duckling" chop nosed GP7 or GP9 locomotive pulling wood chip cars. Yeah, I'm a huge train buff and that's the things that I usually notice the most in most shows & movies Lol.

I grew up two miles from the Covington Square. My Cousin Vinnie wasn't filmed in Covington. It was filmed in nearby Jasper, Putnam and Morgan Counties.

The courtroom used in “My Cousin Vinny” was the same courtroom used on “In the Heat of the Night.” Plus there were a number of actors and actresses who were in “My Cousin Vinny” as well as guest starred in “Heat.”

I went to Covington back in 2019, and it was one of the cleanest towns I’ve ever been in. I was flying my drone around the square and the locals were amazed at it. I met some of the locals and an elderly lady told me she remember when they used to film the show and used to talk to Carroll O’Connor.

The building they used for the police station (outside scenes) was a library then it became a medical supply store not sure what it might be now. All inside scenes were filmed on studio some where in Covington or maybe in Conyers. My cousin Vinny I think they filmed the court scenes at another location not far from Covington, I could be wrong. I think the Magnolia Cafe (building) was a realtor estate office they did serve food I guess on the side on Weekends maybe I just don't remember. IF your looking for the Vampire Diaries cafe I thinks it's on the other street across from the court house (same side it's called the Majestic or something like that. The building next to the building they shot outside (police station) was a appliance store in real life.
