We’re on the seventh and final leg of our flight from Augusta (KAGS), in middle Georgia, down to the Bahamas! We landed at Palm Beach International (KPBI) at night so that we can get an early start out over the ocean. With all of our papers in order and floatation devices on board, it's time to head out over the ocean for the South Bimini Airport (MYBS) in the Bahamas.
In this episode, we add some excitement to the over water flight by setting up several random failures in the default failures of X-Plane 11. Then we fly our course and watch carefully for any of our systems to go offline. Do you think we'll make it there in one piece?
Over this series of flights, we’ll spend each leg looking at some of the various features of X-Plane and the Airfoillabs Cessna 172 as well as discussing some aviation concepts along the way.
Make the most out of your flight simulator experience or use the flight simulator to practice as a student pilot or beyond. Note that while the features of this unit in X-Plane closely mimic those of the real unit, there are some differences. This tutorial should be used for X-Plane purposes only. However, gaining a familiarity with this system will likely aid in your transition to units in the airplane.

EXCELLENT series! Educational, informative, useful AND entertaining! I have this whole series 'saved'. I come back to it from time to time for 'sustainment training'... Excellent and imaginative approach for instruction! Thank YOU!

I could watch your videos all day... And now I have, so there is nothing left that I haven't watched. Really the most entertaining, educational, inspirational and pleasant flight sim videos out there in my opinion. Hope that you find the time and inspiration to create more x-plane GA content in the future!

I really enjoyed watching this bucket list and other videos, your style is very insightful and confident. I’ve been out of radar in the flight simming world for ages and now back and flying myself around the Mediterranean tracing history and culture in a specially painted Cessna 172 Skyhawk. Please keep your videos flowing !

Loved your comments about getting out and taking a discovery flight. Took mine several years ago in Providence, RI. Not only got hooked but started flight school. Work got in the way and here it is ten years later and I live in southwestern New Mexico. The nearest flight school is almost two hours away. Looks to be a good school and when money comes available I'll get back in the air. Thanks for a GREAT series, Clay!

Thanks, Tutor Helper! I’m glad you started. I think aviation, for many people, is a lifelong journey. Sometimes you can actively pursue it when you get hooked, and other times you use outlets like X-Plane to love it when you can’t be in the air. I hope you get back in the air - it’s so worth it! Never stop dreaming.

I enjoyed all the 7 legs but this one is my best. The suspense of thinking what’s going to fail next made it very interesting. Thanks for making these informative and fun videos. It’s by far the best on KZbin. You may consider an IFR flight with very poor visibility and some instrument failures to see if you can maintain course and make it to an airport.

Thanks so much for flying along through the series, AB! The new series, Flying To Oshkosh, does have an some instrument flying and an approach (leg 2) but the failures in IMC is a great idea. I'll add that to the inspiration board. Thanks again!

When the GPS went out, you lost communications with Comm 1. You would need to switch to Comm 2 for radios. Just found your videos today. Watched all seven Bahamas videos, back to back. From Athens, GA.

John, thanks for binge watching the whole series in one run :) - very impressive! You are very correct - with Com1 failed, radios world need to be Com2. In the real world, that's an important bit to distinguish. In the sim, the best that could practically do for us is maybe picking up an AWOS or ATIS. I did most of my training in Athens at KAHN! Love the airport and still visit often. Glad to have you along for these flights!

Watched them all and also flew each one with hardly any deviation; I would watch each leg and then fly it myself. I flew each leg connected to VATSIM but only had ATC tower while passing over FLL. In X-Plane 11 I have no scenery for South Bemini (MYBS), did you create your own or is it available somewhere online? So now I will begin to follow you to Oshkosh. Thank you.

So glad you’ve flown them, DaugBiscuit! The scenery link is in the description of that video, I believe. Have a great time on your way to Oshkosh!

I am here now and I do not see a scenery link for the last leg to South Bemini. Maybe I've missed it somewhere else.

Looks like the NAV1 CDI was still reading the correct course, despite the GPS display being off. Not reliable, obviously, but is that an x-plane bug?
@clayviation

Hey Russell! You’re right - it’s easy to get thrown off by a CDI that has flagged but isn’t swinging. Somebody correct me, but I believe that’s true to life if the CDI isn’t getting inputs.
