I can’t agree more about hard, physical work. It’s how I’ve got ahead and continue to make a good living, with a van full of tools and good old sweat equity. That said, book learning is just as important as the blue collar skills. Ideally, kids would get both.

I love watching you work. In the heat of decisions already made. Committing to the work in front of you. Sizing up your opponent like a fighter in the ring and imposing your will on them simply by reading the subtleties. I know the feeling you displayed after starting your back cut on the maple. Just reading the aura of the tree. Are real spiritual encounter. I love it! Felt like I was on the stump with ya!

So right with bore cut with side lean. You can have risk of a barber chair from cutting it the standard way but I would say that most of them happen from cutting slow with your back cut but with a under powered saw that is where a strong ported saw comes in to help in a big way! In a tree where it has potential for a barber chair you back cut has to be even but you want to get to your hinge fast no stoping cutting fast and get their quick! And for my experience that mitigate the risk big time to each their own but it has never done me wrong in all the years I have been doing tree work. Great video big love to everyone and be kind to each other.🤟🏻🙏

I'm not a big fan of falling Silver Maple or Sugar Maple. It's so twisted and wet that it really likes to overheat a chain and pinch a bar. I limbed and chunked a Silver Maple for my neighbor and I pinched the bar 4 times. 1 time it pinched so hard that I had to get the small saw out and cut my big bar out of a 10" limb. I cut 1/3 of the way through the bottom and then about 1/2 way through from the top the 10" limb split and pinched my bar really really good. It actually pinched the bar so hard that the rails closed up on the chain. Had to swap bars until I could pry the chain out of the bar and fix it later that evening. Lesson learned do not notch a 12" or smaller maple limb more than an inch or 2 or it will split and pinch the bar. You wanta just go through the softer pulp wood that is only about 1-2 inches deep so that it doesn't split and peel. Maple bark likes to peel because they are such a wet tree.

If you had a 16 or 20 inch bar on the saw, that would have been easy, you could have stood beside the tree and got out the back when it started to go. Trees like that are common around my place and one of the reasons we run short bars, there's no room for long ones cutting clumps of maple.
