Irish rooted O'Higgins is not a... but THE father of Chilean Independence. He is absolutely ominpresent on the whole country. A pity you skipped one, if not the most diverse country of Latinamerica as an inbetween filler between Bolivia and Argentina only visiting Santiago. Especially the south of Chile and it's Patagonia is absolutely stunning. But from all the Covid restrictions in Chile I see here and knowing they are a thing of the past for a very long time this severity (I visited Chile in Nov 22 and nobody gave a damn on it) and also by judging the very wear down state of Santiago in these records your journey must have been between 2020 and latest 2022, right? This was shortly after the leftist "revolution" (estallido social) which brought the nation into a very deplorable condition unfortunately (seen on the grafities and burntdown houses and churches everywhere). Luckily Chile has very well recovered since then and most of these traces are gone now.

In many countries they're stll wearing masks. Back in September I went to Chile without a mask, and caught Covid within the first 5 days I arrived. I think is not such a bad idea, especially at the airport. This thing comes and goes. Now we've got it spreading around Australia.

As i'm sure you learned, downtown Santiago is still a little rough-around-the-edges from the protests & rioting after Oct '19. They've cleaned up more graffitti since you were there in '22 but when I went there in Sep '22 i found downtown really depressing and sad (add to this the economic disruption with Covid and a flood of recent immigration--so lots of informal vendors downtown). Downtown Santiago was nice until 2019 and it is slowly recovering.
