Thank you for sharing your experience by train between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. I agree with Lee-always try to take the train (if possible) by I’m fine with buses and ferries as well. 👍🏻 I did the same trip with the mrs and kids many years ago so we opted for a sleeper…since I generally don’t sleep well on overnight plane, bus or train rides and (most important) to avoid possible reprimands from the family! 😊 We arrived in CM about 4 hours late but in retrospect that wasn’t so much a bad thing since it was still morning. We had curtains on the sleeper so lighting didn’t bother us and don’t remember trains being that cold at night-perhaps since it was summertime. 🤷 The most trilling/unforgettable overnight train ride experienced was about 6-8 years ago in Burma from Rangoon to Bagan! While I don’t know what are the entry requirements these days, I hope you get (or have already) done this journey as well. BTW-We’re in PT right now for about a month and you’re both not here. 😢😢😢 Alas, looking forward to your continuing adventures in Thailand. Cheers. 👋🏻

Hi Lucchese. Well done for choosing the sleeper train with the family. That makes total sense and I bet you were a lot more comfy than we were. What happens if you do touch a monk?
@FrugalTravellers
@FrugalTravellers Жыл бұрын
Hello Aimee. From my understanding, it's all about respecting monks on their path to enlightenment. They live a life of meditation, simplicity, awareness and concentration, and withdraw themselves from any feelings of lust or greed. Touching a female could cause feelings of lust, which could be a distraction from their path. It's one of the many fascinating things about Thai culture... avoiding coming into contact with men with shaved heads wearing orange robes. I'm sure there's far more to it than that, but I hope this answers your question 😀😁 ~ Mandy

@@TheLem63 Thank you... that's so kind! I know how important it is for females to keep a certain distance from monks, so I was very careful to not get too close. I haven't spoken Thai for 14 years so have forgotten so much, and I really need to work on my accent and tones! Having said that, I love Thai and wish I could speak it well 🇹🇭❤ ~ Mandy 😁😀
