250g Self raising flour 55g sugar 55g marg/softened butter 1 medium eggs 2-3 tbsp milk 4 tsp Raspberry Jam Icing sugar to decorate (optional) In a large bowl, rub marg/butter into the sieved sr flour until it resembles breadcrumbs. Add the sugar and beaten egg, and add the milk a spoonful at a time, mixing together until you have a sticky dough (you may not need all the milk). With wet hands, form ping pong sized balls and place in the pre prepared baskets. With a floured finger, gently push down to create a hole. With very slightly watered down Jam, spoon into holes. Bake on 160c/320f for 15mins. Leave to cool in basket before transferring to cooling rack. Enjoy with a cup of tea, butter if desired

Raspberry buns were the 1st thing we were taught in domestic science, mine were failure as was my jam tarts due to warm hands, that was when I was 11,I’m 76 now maybe I’ll have another go,

Its def time to have another go Barbara 😄👍💕💕 its lovely to hear all of the domestic science stories or whatever it was called depending on the times (I was home economics & it's now food tech) so interesting. Boys weren't in our class either and we/girls weren't allowed to do woodwork or metal work til mid 80s or thereabouts, memory vague lol) wouldn't happen now. Mind you it may have varied between schools as no national curriculum then😄think that came in in 1988/89 and I had long since left my school🥴

I was thinking about that, I’m 85 and yes we learned to make these in domestic science. Xx

As a child I used to make rock cakes. Same method as these but instead of rolling them into balls, you just pile up the mixture with a fork onto the baking sheet. They are great with choc chips added at the end of mixing. Great one for kids to make too. Love the channel by the way xx

I first made these 57 years ago aged 12. They used to be called raspberry buns no matter what flavour jam one used. I usually use my thumb to made the hole for the jam as it holds more. I agree they are nice buttered especially if they are a day old. It’s so nice to see the recipes of yester year becoming popular once again, along with rock cakes, chocolate buns, coconut buns, cherry buns. All used a similar “cake” bases with a little more sugar. 😊

That's lovely, thank you Mary💕💕 I should have used my thumb! Will def make a bigger hole next time lol

Hi Kerry I would have put jam inside before rolling them into a ball,so that when you cut them open there would be jam inside like a doughnut, keep the videos coming, also thank you for the Crimpet that I won it is great xx

Hi Kerry, Todays video brought back memories, I first made these buns at school in the early - mid 1970’s. At the age of eleven we started having domestic science lessons (now called food tech I believe). The first week we made toast, the second week we moved on to beans on toast. Then on the third week it was these raspberry buns. On the fourth week we made the buns again only this time we rolled the bun in slightly crushed cornflake before adding the jam. I like to think my culinary skills have improved but I still make “those jammy cornflake things” as my husband use to call them. Equally good with rice crispiest. 😜

Loved this Jackie, thank you so much. I did 'home economics' in the 80s, have a terrible memory so only remember the lemon meringue pie as I practiced making that at home, flat meringue!! 😂 loved your crushed cornflakes as well (those jammy cornflake things 😄) will have to try that next time 😃👍💕💕 it's called food tech now 😄

Ooh I made these at school when I was 11 yrs old lol. My mum loved them and she used to make them at weekends xxx❤ we made them slightly different Kerry. We rolled a ball of dough in our hands then rolled them out with a rolling pin added the jam in the centre folded the sides to the middle and rolled into ball again then pressed them down. Added a sprinkle of caster sugar on each bun before cooking Lisa xxx

Hi Kerry, yum yum 😋 They look great and tasty and quick to make. Added to my list, marg/butter sounds good plus a bit of cream possibly🤔 I made your lemon drizzle cake the other day but with limes, that's all I had😏 Went down a storm😁 couldn't leave it alone😋😊 Hubbys already asked when I'm making another😂 Well done with your nos. rising. Certainly not surprised, you are so good at what you do. You show flaws and all, honest, loyal to your viewers and best of all, you don't waffle on, play stupid music and use silly voices. That's why we love you💖🤗 See you on the next one, byee 👋Jen 💕😘xx

Hi kerry, why not marg or butter with jam,we put it on scones. Have a request Kerry??. Could you try for us a Welsh Bara Brith fruit bread made with tea soaking the fruit overnight. Made it in the oven, but just wondered how it would be in the Air Fryer. Would it cut down on the time???,as it usually cooks for 1hr +❤.
