Sadly after 8 1/2 years of a good life, Linda passed away in mid October of 2015. She laid eggs even up to her last summer!! Amazing long life and friendly bird. I raised her and Mamee from a day old puffballs. Mamee was always number two under Linda and had such a great work ethic, digging very industriously like it was her job and very food oriented. Mamee who had this soft oboe voice, had passed away 6 months earlier. I had consistent behaviors with them, such as using the same sounds at feeding time. So I could round them up from wherever they were with this exact "chuk chuk" sound as long as I had a few pieces of corn to toss them -they learned to come to me. There were other sounds too. I suppose you might get lucky with other breeds being friendly but these two, Buff Orpington and Black Australorp seemed bred to be pets.

I had a pet a Rhode Island red rooster when I was a kid .Cared him around like a cat or dog. He would see me and come running and lay down for me to pick him up. I loved that bird. It was such a sad day the day he passed away. I will never forget that unconditional love. That is the only bad thing about chickens ,they don't live long and when you really are attached to them it hard to get over. Thanks for sharing. ATB

Love to watch their small chicken-y signs of happiness & contentment: small chicken-y purrs, the slowly closing lower eyelids, the beak smacking, the fluffy raised patch of feathers near their combs and the way they fluff their feathers out. Thanks again for taking the time to post videos of Linda your Buff Orpington and Mamee your Black Australorp. I sure miss my flock...
Such a sweet video! Thanks That's what I want out of life. Simple, happy moments with animals

+becky lingwood One time I decided to stretch out in the sun and my Orpington casually leaned up against me and kicked back, stretched out her legs and dozed there with me. Totally like therapy. In a way you can't move when something that cute is going on like being trapped in a good way.

my little bro had an Orpington and she’d always sit in his shoulder and would always cuddle with him. She was sick and has to be put down, but she was the sweetest thing.

Just AWESOME! Alas your comment posted 2 weeks ago telling of their passing, such beautiful chickens ya had here, the Linda, Buff Orpington and Mamee, Black Australorp! Sometimes in the past i got confused with two breeds, Black Australorp and Black copper marans, the hens are both black but the copper marans has some golden or reddish feathers coming down its neck, right? Uprated, thanks for sharin', at least you have their video images for posterity! :)

i got a few barred rocks, 2 EE,2redsexlinks 2 rhode island reds, and a buff roo..the buff is the sweetest chicken I've ever had he's such a damn good rooster and treats the ladies so well constontly bringing them treats, he won't fuck them unless they are willing and. do that squat thing..he won't eat or feed himself until the girls get their fill... he literally flys *up- on my shoulder first thing in the morning...I'm more and more impressed everyday just watching the things he does for the ladies there's no doubt he would fight to the death for them

I'm sure, she was a such a special girl. Being it's been 10 years, is she "Gone"? Seen some live 12 years. I love how she let's "her 2nd" know, she's still number 1. 😎🤣 She was like: "look at me.... in my eyes... WHO'S number 1?!... yeah, that right, ME! Don't forget that" and then she just settled back down on your belly. Too darn cute! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I was going to get Buff Orpingtons chicks... then decided to get Australorps instead. My newest chicks are 15 black Australorps. We haven't had any new chickens here, in over a decade. Starting back up, with just one or 2 breeds. Planning on getting black Copper Maran eggs, to hatch my own too. My friend has a pair in her mixed flock. In her flock, she has 1 hen & the only Rooster that are the black Copper Maran. So, at Ieast they will be pure breed and not hybrids I plan on only keeping hens, from this year's hatching. Around here, many want this Beautiful breed....So extra roo's will get new homes. 😉

I think about her often. We would just gaze into each other's eyes. I know that sounds funny, but I bonded with that fluffy hen! She helped me catch my breath when I had a tough day. You can hear me sigh when she settles in and her breathing becomes steady.

@@gagig I totally get it... I feel that way about any different animals. A couple of my young hens/pullets, and 1 of the Roo's "Seamore Butt" , are in the same category. We stare at each other... then they takes naps, on my lap.. while I pet them. It's very comforting to me. 🤗
