It used to be the saying that it was "expensive to eat healthy." Turns out, it's more expensive to eat crappy at fast food places, and even MORE expensive to eat healthier at fast food places. Thanks for making this video, it definitely got me thinking about that budget vs results.

No, its cheap to eat crappy and its more expensive to eat healthy. The problem starts if you want convinience, that is a whole other category. Burger King was crappy macro and cheap while chick-fil-a was decent food and also expensive af. So you cannot compare homemade prepfood to convinient fastfood unfortunately. I mean you can but you need to add the time/skill/research that goes into prepping and buying wholefood also the monotone nature of it. So its not black and white
@adyon
@adyon Жыл бұрын
@@mmtv9511 I'd add a caveat there that it's actually still more expensive to it crappy if you only eat out as the example video. Because either you're eating less calories for the money in all but the cheapest of the cheap options, or you're supplementing with junk from home. That's where eating crap is cheaper (per calorie). Because a box of Hamburger Helper or ramen can give you tons of calories for nothing and little work/cooking knowledge. Or skip that and just do a bag of chips. But I'd disagree all together with the monotone nature thing. If you're talking fast food, it's equally monotone in my opinion. Especially on the cheap end. It's just different sauce/bread. I think the biggest realization anyone can make is that there's only so many varieties of food prep out there. It's why making a ton of chicken breast is a great value for me. I make it a neutral seasoning style, then from that I do whatever I want with leftovers. Wrap in a tortilla with some stuff? Instant burrito. Pour any type of flavor, etc to instantly change dishes.

I'm surprised you didn't give the power bowls a try at Taco Bell, they're probably the easiest to fit in with macros and if you go with extra protein and light sour cream it usually breaks down to 29g carbs, 37g protein, and 28g fat all for about $7.50. The worst part is the sodium but that's true for almost all fast food.

I just started my health journey about a month ago. Havent touched fast food since. Previously, I had 1-2 times a day. I have been counting calories and macros. The cravings have not only gone away for sweets and fast food, but they dont even sound good anymore. I have food sitting in the pantry and alcoholic beverages in the fridge that i haven't touched because the thought of eating/drinking them and the amount of garbage in them turns me away. I am enjoying making my own foods and balancing out my diet/hitting the gym. I only wish I had started sooner. I am 29, 6'2, and was 220 pounds. I weighed in today at 207.6 and have been feeling so much better throughout the day. Still have belly/leg fat, but im enjoying the process, the appearance will come over time and im ok with that.

My sister ate 90% take out, premade boxed food and sit down restaurant food from the time she graduated til she was 52. The other 10% was home cooked food when she would visit family and friends. At work her lunches and snacks were sugar/carb filled little munchies. She died from Non Acoholic Fatty Liver Disease at 52. By the time she finally went to get help it was too late..liver was gone. She was incoherent most days for a month before she died. Her excuse was she was always throwing out left overs, she didnt like cooking that much since it was just her and her daughter (who btw is identical to her mom), it cost just about the same to eat out as it did having a grocery bill. At the time she was blessed with the actuality that yes, eating out ran about the same as grocery bill on a typical american budget. From what i remember most in her later yrs was that Wendy's was her favorite and hitting the Chinese buffet more and more. She did absolutely nothi g for physical activity. Her job was a sit down job. Every single time i eat out i remember this whole ordeal with her. I even was afraid of it when i was a teenager and saw her do it. Its so dam tasty..but its never ever lasting sustenance

Harder to track but better choices can be made everywhere. Taco bell for instance, ditch the sour cream and cheese(full fat) and just opt for wraps with protein and pico (al fresco) and salsa. Chick Fil-A is the obvious winner with choices but yeah it's expensive. You can grab 3 12 count grilled nuggets (36 total) for 600 calories with 114g of protein. I throw them in a bowl with buffalo sauce (0 calories) and go to town. However, that alone will run you over $20. Great stuff!

Great video, as always! I would just like to add from my personal experience that the probelm with Fast Food is less about Calories, more about Macros and mostly about Micros. As you showed in your video, it's easy to stay on track with your Calories if you are considerate with your options; it's harder to meet the right balances of Macros; and (that's my point) almost impossible to get the right amount of Micros, such as vitamins, minerals etc.

Taco bell related - while the reputation is that it will flush you out, the main reason for that is almost everything on their menu has very high fiber. I know in a pinch I have gone to Taco Bell and when I looked at the full break down I saw the amount of fiber in a simple taco meal and it was wild. They do offer more protein and "fresh" facing options to help you out, but in the end it is a lot of fiber. So that is why you often poop yourself when you eat a lot of Taco Bell.

A few people mentioned Supersize Me. That guy chose to stop walking, not exercise, and he still lied about how many calories he consumed. He also broke the rules he made himself- he was also binge drinking and also lied about his alcoholism when it came to his bloodwork. Having fast food once in a while isn't gonna kill you, any sudden change in your diet WILL make you feel like shit though.

The KFC part was hiiiiilarious. The expression of defeat, disgust, and overall shame pretty much summes up the fast food industry. Chick-fil-a didn't look that bad, but I was a bit surprised at the price tag, and taco bell is a bit of a guilty pleasure, we will eat taco bell once a year, it is terrible for you, but for some reason it is enjoyable in the moment, jajajaja. Subway, I had a horrible experience of food poisoning back when I was in college, eating the Chicken bacon ranch, and I have not gone back in 15 years and never will. We were a group of 6 and we know it was the chicken bacon ranch because the two of us that ordered it almost died from dehydration as a result, it was bad, we ended up in the ER. On the plus side we definitely lost weight., jajaja

I used to eat Subway every other day when I first started my fitness journey before getting food poisoning as well. Eerily it was the chicken bacon ranch that nailed me to and I haven't touched it for about six years now. I didn't go to the ER but I had to use an emergency call off day for work, go in (boss was extremely patient with me doing bathroom breaks) to then put a few vacation days in. Afterwards it was chugging a ton of water while sitting on the porcelain throne.

Definitely a neat idea. I'm surprised you didn't add in Chipotle, as you could definetly control things there. Also with your protein needs, I'd be curious how close $$$ translated to protein, and not surprisingly, the $$ at Chick Fil A was also spot on for your protein.

@@JesseReyesFitness It really does. Even their grilled chicken shows it has it. That's one of the secrets to a lot of fast food. Throwing in trace amounts of sugar to things in an amount we don't really taste but to make it more "tasty" to our brain due to our body's chemical lean towards sugars and fats. And even if it didn't have actual sugar, in a nutritional aspect, carbohydrates are sugar.

Yeah, people who say they have to eat fast food for financial reasons really just don't seem to want to put in the effort. Food at the grocery store, even now, is much cheaper than the "food" at fast food places, and it's usually healthier too. It doesn't take that much effort to find food that's healthy and among the cheapest in any given grocery store. Gotta find a nice meat, nice slow carbs, and a few extras, maybe. There you have a base, and you can swap things around a bit as needed.

I think this is helpful for things like road trips, or short term circumstances (like moving) that may cause it to be necessary to eat fast food. Seeing that it can be done in a temporary setting, without derailing goals is important. There are more salads available for micronutrients too that may be more important for us less buff individuals, too (though we may need to pack our own dressing). Overall, I liked that this challenge was limited to one week and the breakdown was well done.

Alright i paused the video 1:52 , yes as long as your in a caloric deficit you can reduce body fat , and yes if you consume adequate protein your muscles will recover and along with good sleep you will gain lean mass , no you do not have to eat “healthy” foods to lose fat and gain lean mass but if you are not conscious of what you eat your health will take a toll , basically you will look good physically but internally you will be weathering away.
