Overlooked the NUMBER ONE pvp pokemon, Shuckles for the little league. Got myself a hundo from a raid this morning on my walk to work, then right after a hundo heracross from a solo mega raid. Today was a good day

I especially love seeing mewtwos when using my Golisopod. Shadowclaw, x scissor and liquidation. They never shield that first super effective attack.

Bugs are one of those... there's something usually better than bug to counter an enemy that is weak to bug: Grass - I think Fire and there are PLENTY of Fire to use Psychic - I think Dark and I have enough Godzillas (T-tar) that I use them... Darkrai and Hydreigon round out my 6 Dark - I tend to think Fighting, though this could be where I go in for a bug type for experiments. Even there, Heracross is so much better with Counter, that it's not really a bug in a way... maybe Scizor would work?

Some bug pokemon I use are Armaldo, Buzzwole, Escavlier, Genesect, Accelgor, and Butterfree.

Scizor is my starter for the team rocket leaders, fast at destroying the shields and takes fast attacks without much issue. with that said, as some who plays GO and the main series, the main flaw in GO is the leveling system. if I wanted to play in the main series with my favorite pokemon, and make it useful in battles, I can by over leveling it, IV training, bottle caps, and so on. but in GO, you cant really do that resulting in many pokemon being dex fillers only, and alot bug types dont make the cut, unless its pseudo -legendary, mega or an actual legendary. Am I saying every pokemon should have the stats of a legendary? No. but should the leveling system to re-vamp, yes, let pokemon go up to level 100 apart from the trainer level, you still require a massive amount of candies, stardust to level it up, but you can power up whatever you like for pve, just my 2 cents,

Yes bug types are completely underrated due to poor stats and being out classed by other types. Bug types can be useful against Psychic Dark and Grass types but they have better counters over bug types. The only goods ones I seen the most are the ones you said for PVP megas ultra beasts and shadow Pokémon. If they can beat fairy types then things would be different.
