Its because when firemen use a fire hydrant they have to open it on the side and the way it opens with the tool is a lot similar to this exercise

All that knowledge but i bet it doesn't translate into a big deadlift so why would i care?

Its a warmup so you don't injure yourself during your "big deadlift"

This can be a great movement for injury reduction by strengthening the surrounding musculature. and the glutes provide frontal pain stability during sagittal plane movements like the squat or deadlift so can be a great movement for you to incorporate into accessories or a warm up.

@@SmithForgedSC I was never big into these types of things.I wish there was a bare minimum guide to start doing this type of stuff, i usually just warm up with light weights.
