Build review of my next project, the glorious Enterprise D!
Covering current work in progress for the build to accurize the kit.
Sorry for the waffling in this video, I'll try to do better next time :-)
Aside from the usual kit building element I'll be introducing for the first time the use of Arduino to have this kit all singing and dancing and I'm learning Arduino for the first time.

I agree with you on round2 not doing anything with this kit. I've been begging them for a 1/1000 scale Enterprise-D for years now! Great work, though

I agree the clear edition has no retooling or corrections to the model at all

It is a shame. I can only assume that they wanted to keep it to the original release version for nostalgic purposes.

Great work on those tiny, multitudinous windows! As always, I admire your dedication to the task. I share your disappointment in the lack of effort by Round2 on the rerelease of the D. I didn't know that the rerelease was imminent, but I figured with the nostalgic popularity of Picard season 3 that they would put out a new kit of the D and I've been waiting patiently. When I saw the thumbnail of AllScaleTrek's review of the new kit, I got excited that it would be released sooner than I expected. I'm still going to get the new kit since I would like a model of the D and until now it has been impossible to find one in this scale for a reasonable price, but I expected them to at least improve the kit even a little bit! Oh well. Anyway, thanks for the update!

Thank you for your kind words 🙏🏻 I’m actually finding the tiny rim windows not too bad to do, not anywhere near as tedious as all the others. It is a shame about the new release, but hey ho, is what it is. I agree, that as a starting point and at a reasonable price the new release would suffice. But still……..

Thank you for the link. One thing I noticed was there are not any panel lines on the big model. Fill them all in and save the ‘artistic’ re scribing! I am going to get the new release and do that in addition to smoothing the hull and motion picture miniatures upgrades photoetch etc etc.

I was debating doing that and am in two minds wether to leave or fill them in.

The white plastic is better imoh, its like the Voy kit, a plastic without color particles, so light will pass through windows and you wont have this problem with the brittle transparent plastic that has also issus with plastic glue. Just scrape the color away after painting is much easier

I agree that the scraping method is far better and easier, but to be honest I prefer clear plastic. Not my personal preference to have white plastic showing when the lights are off.

How did you drill? I've gone through so many drill bits and techniques

I used a 0.05mm bit for the main windows, taking it steady to drill out plastic then cleaning them up using a hobby knife front and back. For the saucer rim windows I’m using a snapped off 0.03 mm bit acting like a router bit to recess out the plastic then cleaning up with the tip of a sharp hobby knife with a final sanding using the tip of a square micro file. The beauty of the snapped bit is that it can’t snap off any more 👍
