I haven't built a ton of motors, but plastigauge and the tightening / loosing sequence for stretching the rod bolts has done me well. For the rod bolts, you can pretty quickly tell by feel when they've been stretched enough, the bolt end is perfectly flush with the nut and it's a feel with your finger that is remarkably accurate, backed by measuring. FYI, having the tools you have is good, but don't overcomplicate it at the same time.

Very true, only got the stretch gauge because a fee forms I cam across strongly suggested it and I figured it get some more use out of it later on as well 🔥

When measuring the main bearings. Are the case half torqued to spec? That might be why its off. Also Micro fiber cloths are your friend. Make sure all surfaces are clean. Take your time. Assembly lube and oil also are your best buddy. Any moving parts gets lubricant. Lube up the bearings, cylinder walls, and piston skirts, piston rings, with clean engine oil. Worst thing to happen is you make a mess with more oil then spinning a bearing with less oil. Good luck and remember its just nuts and bolts!

I will make this comment on a newer video as well, this is important and this video made me think of it. A torque wrench should never ever be used to loosen. It’s calibrated to tighten. And it should be calibrated annually, or if you dropped it. Zero it out to store it don’t leave it under tension.

Nice details buddy. Looking good! Take it easy with that bore gauge though. Once your complete the measurement, its not good to let the plunger snap back out to its resting position. Just slowly angle the gauge and then wiggle it up and out of your measuring area. That will prevent the plunger from making that snapping noise. Less jolts to the measurement equipment will ensure better accuracy. Also to minimize that snapping, you can change the measuring tip on the end of the gauge to minimize the amount of preload you have when putting it into the bore you want to measure. Looking forward to seeing this series 😀

Will a short throw shifter void my drive train warranty?
@Smeedia3 жыл бұрын
It could cause reasons to deny a warranty claim

Do you use an FSM for torque specs and what not? If so where did you purchase? Thanks for any advice.
@Smeedia2 жыл бұрын
Yes I do and you can get them for free on NASOIC and some other forums

Say first off all I have the money and my EJ 💥 I am good in general mecanic so I should be able to continue de build on a new shortblock from any good company around? Put heads and all dressed it all, seems not that bad. but $$
@Smeedia3 жыл бұрын
Definitely much easier to do, assembling a long block is not bad at all 🔥

how did you come across .014 for the gap? sounds pretty damn tight for 600 hp lol
@Smeedia3 жыл бұрын
I asked my builder and that's what he suggests. He builds a ton of these so for the turbo, fuel type and compression that's what we suggested

Dude- did you see how much that rod was twisting when you were torquing the rod bolts? Get a rod vice or at least clamp the rod vertically in the vice.
@Smeedia3 жыл бұрын
Rod vice is a thing?!
@alangreenwood38543 жыл бұрын
@@Smeedia Yep- just clamps the rod across the big end axis to prevent twisting of the rod.
