Fantastic video man! One note, when you torque your rods it’s worth finagling them into a vice, the way you did twisted the rod against the crank with 90ft lb of toque, and the only thing that stopped the rod from twisting was the rod bearing. Obviously those bearings aren’t designed to take a twisting load like that, just a normal force. Since there’s so much bearing surface area, the deformation caused by twisting those rods like that likely had little effect but just a note from a fellow garage ej builder! Keep up the great content!!

FINALLY finished the video, man that was a long one.😅😅 Putting sealant on is always a rush job, they have a set work time that if you go over, you scrape it off and start again. And usually with temperature changes it greatly varies the cure time. The seam sealers we use in collision repair are rated at 70°. Every 10° up it cuts the time in half. Every 10° down it doubles the time. But anyway, that engine looks great!!! And always double, triple, quadruple check measurements.

In a perfect world we would clearance everything at operating temp, and torque all the bolts at a operating temp. And since this isn’t practical. Subaru uses a controlled temp, 77*f is what they build their motors at. Then rely on the expansion of metals formula for their cold specs. That’s why factory stuff is so tight. I set my mains .0015 and rods .002. Those are built motor specs from nasioc haha

I built my first Subaru engine last year. Went through everything you did. I ordered a sandwich adapter to go between the oil filter and block so I could add a line and pre oil the system. When I was done I blocked the AN fittings with caps because I wasn't going to use them anymore. I had a oil pressure guage connected to the small port on the side of the sandwich adapter. I started the engine for initial break in and the oil psi guage read 100 psi (it was mounted in the engine bay not in the cockpit). I sat and watched the engine run for several minutes..... Then it started squeaking. I went to the cockpit to shut off the engine and that's when I noticed the oil light was on. Unbeknownst to me, on this particular sandwich adapter, you cannot just block off the AN fittings. You either have to remove the adapter or loop the to AN fittings together. The oil pressure wasn't going anywhere further than the oil psi gauge on the side of the adapter. It read 100 psi there but the engine was 0 psi. I had done this a hundred times on my small block Chevy circle track cars with no issue... But apparently the Subaru is different. I basically spent countless hours meticulously building a forged engine, only to instantly destroy it with no oil Don't be me

If you put the head studs in and install torque plates,1 per side to simulate the heads u will get a better torque reading. Just torque the studs like you would the heads, maybe if you're ocd put a little ARP Ultra-torque a light coating the nut the washer and torque plates so there is less friction torquing.. Also many in the know have said to build between 68 - 72* less expansion so .albeit a little homemade temp controlled room if it matters to u. I just try to not overlook anything if I'm looking for doing it right..And Don't use red rags as they leave tiny lint behind. Paper coffee filters with a little after for cyl wipe down followed by dry filters, leaves no lint behind.. Besides.the stretch guage spec from ARP, what does Manley recommend for torque as 80-90#'s is a ton of torque there by reducing your bearing clearance and did u put assembly lube on the rod bearing as they looked a little tight when you went to spin the rod.. Maybe take a look at Sunie Performance on you tube. He's a German subie builder in Germany..Try to find an early video as he shows the stretch gauge and also the rod movement after torquing. His move much smoother.. Not saying it's wrong, but it looks too tight. I have a one off set of Cunningham Titanium Connecting Rods for a phase 1 2.5 with Cunningham 286,000 psi 3/8 bolts and there spect at 50 ft #'s that's why I question 80-90 ft pds.. Hey, I'm going to be getting a new 2021 WRX STI in a couple weeks (in transit 😩) and I've got some questions about some certain mods since I know you are incredibly knowledgeable about these cars and there are so many mixed opinions online but I would trust yours. I don't want to void the warranties so no tunes ,although I'm planning on it probably 2-4 years later I think, but I've decided to get a tomei cat back (don't hate lmao) and I also want to get some good turbo sounds. I know if I also get an entire, proper air intake in combination with the catback I might run into lean running issues. But if I were to just get a drop in aftermarket filter would that give sound if any at all without causing a lean condition? And if so which filter would you recommend like k&n etc? An actual intake will require a tune as far as I'm aware? I've also decided to go ahead and get the gfb hybrid bov. I know if not set to 100% recirculating it'll cause it to run rich but I don't mind because pops and bangs and such. I know that the bov could possibly cause me to be denied certain warranty claims but considering the install is about 20 minutes I really don't mind just taking it off. I'll ask my dealer first before to make sure they wouldn't deny a claim due to this first. Anyway I was wondering if you knew if this combination of parts would cause any issues (other than a little rich during bov purge) and how I can get the most noise from my turbski without needing tunes, voiding warranties, causing any unnecessary damage, or if you knew of better ways to do this. Any help would be super appreciated and love the vids btw 😉.

1st, congrats on the car! Nothing wrong with tomei, I personally just don't like how they look. You should be fine swapping air filters without tuning, these cars can be temperamental but shouldent run into too many issues. Don't get the GFB, they always have leaks. I'd suggest a Cobb BPV

Hey love this vid man. But realistically what can the AIG 750 BHP hold to the wheels??? I heard that the math is 750 bhp -20%= 600 WHP. Is this an accurate expectation???

I don't know if I just missed it but what oil pump did you use for this? Epic video btw! The level of detail you go into is awesome! Your content is always great.

@@Smeedia good to know, thanks. I was trying to decide to stick with the 11mm pump or not. Trying to build 600 plus hp, with 8k redline. My main problem is getting the money to complete my build lol.

I could be wrong, but I thought you had to set the stretch gauge to zero on every bolt prior to torquing? Unless I just misunderstood your wording. Technically all bolts should be the same length but I never trust anything. Lol

I rest the gauge the first few times but it kept zeroing out everytime I went to double check cal
