I was going to make the kind of midsize break you see a lot of on KZbin but after seeing this beauty I'm going EXTRA HEAVY GAUGE all the way! Thanks for the motivation!!! Great job on the break! Thank's to you I will now build something that will last generations!!

For no other reason than a lack of steel, I'm mounting mine to the side of a utility trailer I'm building, lol. That should give me enough footing to counter the force I'll one day apply to it. Though after watching this video, I wish I'd made mine for 5'+. I made mine only 4'6".

Just posted a Question Trust Noone The Question is: Shouldn't there be a slight movement on bending edge. When your bending thick guage steel, allow for the thickness of the metal. Over all it's brilliant.

Very nice build! Sure is hefty enough to get the job done! I noticed the little Lincoln welder you have there. Just like mine. I've welded just about everything, but nothing as heavy as you welded in the video. I was just checking out videos on building a brake. Yours is more heavy than I need, but it's still a very nice design!

kool build its WEARD though I've been saving peices for a build like yours been thinking of how to make the pivots I picked up some nice cut offs of 3/4 inch thick by 4 inch. We think ALIKE same wire welder, I built a gantry crane in my work area picked up 20x40 double cross gantry beams 4 ft wide so I can carry things flat with 2 trollies on each...it's ADA SHOP...IVE GOT A BAD BACK.. When I saw you bringing in that ''heavy'' gauge steel along with an ''I Beam'', I knew this was gonna be good & you definitely didn't disappoint. It's too bad you had to invest in the cost of that blade (I know they're not cheap) because we both know it would've been so much nicer if you could've made the whole thing from scrap you just had on hand. That's how I feel when I make something with steel. I don't throw away any steel that's thick enough to weld without burning it up. Ya never know when that little piece of 3 inch angle iron will wind up being exactly what you need to use in the project you're building. You did a great job building a brake that's actually big enough to make bends when working on something ''BIG''. ''QUESTION''- have you had time to work with it enough to find out the maximum thickness of steel you can bend up to a 90 degree bend? I see above that it says this was published on Jan.1st, 2019, so have you had the time to learn this yet? Thanks for showing us how you built this very useful machine & thanks for the telling us your thoughts you had going into this build, as well as explaining certain details about why you did what. That was very helpful & thoughtful. Just by doing that made your video so much better than nearly every other 1 you may see on here. Usually, it's just us watching a person building a project with annoying ''MUSAC'' playing. I going to write you down in my book of people to look out for as well as this video in particular. Again, thank you for showing this to us & keep up the great work.

As far as the 'cutting edge' goes you are correct, it was the only piece I had to buy. They can be had fairly reasonably online from titan. still a little more pricey than regular mild steel in the same size. The advantage here is the pre-cut bevel. Its been a busy 2 months as far as work outside the shop, I haven't yet had time to make anything with the brake that would really push its capacity. Its always good to keep those small pieces of iron, you're right they come in handy. Thanks for the kind feedback and Ill look forward to hearing from you in the future!

I completely understand. You did a great job building something heavy duty enough to possibly come close to making bends in some far heavier gauge steel than just sheet metal. Thanks for the kind reply & keep up the great heavy gauge work.

Just one Question. Shouldn't the bending edge be slightly movable? If your bending thick guage how will it bend it, no gap to allow thickness.

Why do you use stick vs MIG?
@unitedstatesofbuild49155 жыл бұрын
I have both and use both. Ive gotten into the habit of mocking up with the MIG and doing weld out with stick on projects with recycled steel. Mainly because of the thin layer of rust. 7018 and 6011 handle the rust in stride.
