Welcome to Auridon (Ep 7)! This is a 'lightly’ modded Cities Skylines gameplay series, although I do use a ton of mods the series will use mostly Vanilla (+DLC) game assets with only a handful of extras from the workshop. The focus of this build is on making a detailed city, with functional mass transit, including all DLC and content creator packs. 2022 ready!
Episode 7 focuses on how to manage and forward plan transport options and traffic management. We build a tram, metro, bus hub, plan out road networks for future downtown expansion, build a four stack highway intersection from scratch, extend the existing tram line AND build a detailed high school campus!

I've taken massive inspiration for this build, and to start my channel, from the Cities: Skylines greats such as Biffa, Imperatur and City Planner Plays (among many many others I would add!!) but above all from the amazing OverchargedEgg and in particular his Palaven series which has heavily inspired this city. You can check that out here:
• Palaven - Cities Skyli...
And yes, if you've made it this far and was wondering... I am an Elder Scrolls fan :)

Her style reminds me a lot of Overcharged Egg, but a bit more settled in with the various mods. I think OE is lacking some of the experience with things like Move It that FewCandy has, so planning and thinking with utilizing that in mind comes more naturally. I'd love to see a collab between them sometime. Unlike bigger group collabs a 2-person project between people with very similar styles could be something amazing! :)

Hey FC, I just wanted to say that I am really enjoying the series. The city is beautiful, it is truly inspiring. I love the short little micro detailing time-lapses you do during the middle. Many of us really enjoy building along with you and when you break up the detailing into smaller time-lapses it makes it so much easier so thank you for that. Not sure if you have the same opinion as I do but I absolutely hate the way most of the tram roads look as well as the bus roads. When looking at them from overhead they just stick out so bad and draw attention away from the things you want people to look at. Although this is way to late and most likely not doable. What about running the tramline down the riverfront along side the avenue? This will also help with traffic and will ensure your trams don’t get stuck in it. For areas that you need/want to connect with the tram but don’t have much room you could run the line on the road or try to elevate it. Imperial Jedi put out a cool video in his Green Cities let’s play series where he mixes some tram only and a one-way through some of his high density. Just wanted to toss the idea out to you. It may add a bit of spice to the city and add some different heights. The build was still beautiful and I cannot wait for the next episode!

Love the forest brush that makes the city feel like it's mature, but I feel like there are too many big trees along the coast blocking views. For example, the first tram stop you setup might be a great spot for a fishing pier right off the stop, giving the opportunity to make a lot off Island shore into a park.

I know you plan to change it up down the line, but I feel I have to say the intersection might look a little bit more natural if you embank some more of the ramps, no engineer in their right mind would make bridges out of all of those. Otherwise it looks absolutely stellar! Also the front of the Country Club could maybe benefit from a ferry station as additional mode of public transport and/or yacht clubs for flavour maybe?

Maybe because of the budget reason, they can't do it more?
@Nihilianth
@Nihilianth Жыл бұрын
Unless they're from Texas. Lol. But yeah. Those who know how to run a budget, like in most other states not named Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, etc....they just simply do cloverleaf interchanges. Only time you see large stacks like that, is if you have a major avenue or boulevard running crosswise to both or parallel with one of the highway routes. But in any case, Few Candy seems to be going more for aesthetics. That is a really nice-looking interchange.

Hi FewC, great episode, and despite your protestations, the interchange is outstanding. I also like the offset tram stops...an idea which I will be stealing from you. One small point... I don't use toll roads myself, but I believe they come with an inbuilt speed limit which is much lower than the highway even with automated tolls. I think you can raise the limit to increase the flow through there. Looking forward to the next installment...

It's a nice change of pace to watch a builder who builds their city with strategic expansion in mind rather than focusing on what they can fit in at the moment. Your planning style is pretty similar to mine in how you layout joint properties (like how you added different buildings to the high school to create a campus area or how you create tram stops and metro hubs rather than just plop them on the roads). Have you thought about using different public transport assets like the Ryder series of buses, trams, metro, ect? It feels like changing the design of the trams for each route would give the area a little bit of character- plus you would be able to fit more people on those trams than in the vanilla ones.

The interchange ended up looking great! I do love the tram stops and the way you implemented the assets, especially like the way the stop at the country club looked with the road network, kept the entry feel into the club. Had to chuckle at the amount of people get off the trams with dogs... so really pet friendly tram system :P Really like the school / transit hub too. Amazing detailing once again FC! PS - Its amazing just how far people will walk or cycle.

2 amazing tips this video: - move it to reset buildings when abandoned (I've been copying the abandoned building, plopping it, deleting the abandoned one and then replacing, this is a lifesaver) - removing unneeded nodes in tram stops so you can centralise the stop! Thank you so much for the continued enjoyable videos and tips along the way :) One thought, i really enjoy the length of your videos, the more the better in terms of content from yourself in my opinion. But if you want / need to get them shorter then I've noticed that you seem to always use music over your time lapses, then you explain the detailing afterwards, if you have particularly long time lapses you might want to explain over the time-lapse and then a brief fly over afterwards to shorten the video if needed. Talking over the timelapse might also lead to you explaining a few more tips and tricks (i like what you did with the plopable grass in the high school), however i guess the camera needs to stay still in one spot long enough for you talk about something. Don't know just trying to help, keep up the good work.

I love the tram and metro hub with the outdoor Market built in it. I do think there would be a taxi stand in with the hub there though, just so people getting a tram or metro in don't have to walk as far to get a taxi to their final destination. I like the bus hub, but I think it would be really nice to use the ferry-bus hub when that unlocks, just to integrate the ferry into the hub a bit more. I'm really loving this series though. It's really nice seeing someone putting so much effort into the small details of their city and fleshing things out so much, like you do. And it works so well.

20:55 yeeeeee, that's a place of amusement))) Camelback bridges are okay, but this highway ramp looks a little bit too humpy.(I mean left side of the screen) In actual practice tram stops in the middle of the road are pretty common, cars just stop and let people get aboard. It looks unsafe, but not weird. Of course, for sake of beauty stops should be like yours. The last shady one at 33:10 is my favourite, so fascinating! Best regards!

Great series you have going here. Just a small little time saving tip, when drawing in lines using the intersection marking tool, it defaults to the dashed lines. But if you hold down "shift" when selecting the second point of the line, it will make it solid so you do not have to go back to the style and change it to a solid line each time. Cheers.

Hello! Love the content! A tip for using the Intersection making tool : When clicking to the end point a "line" as you where doing at 18:25, you can press some different hot keys to decide wich style it will be, without having to go on the mod window and selecting from a list. For exemple: Shift + Click will result in a continuous line; Ctrl + Click will result in a double continuous line, etc.. If want to know other hot keys, when you have your cursor on top of the end point while creating a new line, a tool tip will appear, informing you about the hot keys ;) Really nice interchange, I will put the model to work on my next city after the new maps DLC, for sure.

Howdy Candy Plopper your officially the first lady I’ve seen build a intersection it’s definitely a thing of engineered non symmetrical beauty. What I like about this interchange is you made it to fit to the original highway layout instead of conforming the highways to the interchange makes it not completely symmetrical but more realistic. i feel like that black line is super long for a tram... wouldnt a distance that long have a faster mode of transportation? its not like the highly educated workers in the rich people district are going to utilize a line going to an oil field.... the rich owners would probably take their own cars or a private bus line. may i suggest separating the black tram line into two lines that meet at the commercial front (where the white line also stops)? :> love the vids, thanks for sharing

I enjoy how much detail & care you put into the build. There's a reson behind everything. That's why it bugs me so much to see the castle the way that it is. Think it should be changed in one of two ways. Ruins or full glory. How it looks now makes no sense. Where is the build located in the world? If it's a UK build suggest going for ruins (Oliver Cromwell) that would make the most sense. Look forward to see what you do with it. That island would make for a great park area regardless.

It’s really coming along nicely, shame about the lagging starting to creep in.

Along the original waterfront could you have some vintage looking trams on it as a touristy thing?

Really enjoying how well thought out your public transit is. Also question: How long did it take you to develop your playing style?

I’ve played this game for years, and the first few in vanilla only. As soon as I found mods I got more into the detailing and developed this style, so it has been a long time even so!

Loving the build. One question is, do you have despawning off? Plus where you have trams crossing off the road on the island it could cause major traffic when you expand to next island.

If you think your bad at highway interchanges. Try doing them on a console. I bet your waiting for the next expansions coming for Cities...I know I am!
