Please watch the short movie The Strange Thing About The Johnsons from 2011 that is available on KZbin and that has an entire black cast and is a thriller. Then after you watched that remind yourself Tyler Perry is a billionaire and has written a scene in a movie where a black woman falls off a boat into the water when its pitch dark and miraculously gets back on the boat a few minutes later without any explanation and her clothes and hair are both dry as well when she shows back up on the boat

This interview cracked something open for me… Knowing that Tyler writes not only from one character's point of view, but to focus on the internal message of the character, really does explain a lot about how his filmmaking unfolds. If we all had the privilege and the resources to create and distribute our art uninterrupted, and without the need to check-in with anyone. I believe a lot of us would take that opportunity. Tyler is working within his own standards, seemingly outside of the standards many would like him to. However, he is an artist and this is his art. Most of his art (films/tv production) deals with relationships, whether it be romantic or family relationships. The least we can do, if we choose to support, is take the deeper message and explore how it relates to how we engage and connect to one another.

I’m glad he knows to keep telling what he wants to tell. How dare people try to tell him what do with his craft. Baby please. Did anybody tell Picasso what color to use in his painting next?! Did somebody tell him they “tired of him using the same colors? No! Let him work. And as he does his thing, other doors will be opened for them to do THEIR work. Let him do his and you do yours.

The part about ownership….So my husband and I have written a true story (book) about ourselves as being single and then married. We are constantly receiving good feedback about the book since day one. So my idea was to start a webisode first which would be using what you have. But people in the industry would say that our message is worth more than a play or webisodes. Tyler just said to start small and at least you own it! As he has looked at other individuals that’s created some hits but got paid Pennie’s on the dollar. I’m so grateful when successful people who have made it come back and spread knowledge.
