I'm 72 and have had many 4x4s over the years. That being said without any HP improvements or suspension tweeks the best 4x4 I had was a '72 Ford Courier. It was 4x4 when I bought it, someone before me had converted her. One thing I would change for the driveability if I still had her would be a 5 speed tranny. PS PUDDIN'S SCRAP CABINET is a great name.

Only thing missing is the pneumatic setup for the ram, I have one for my harbor freight 20ton press, such a nice feature, and will save you having to manipulate the ram by hand, and is quiet a bit faster, will make pickin motors, and towing vehicles a breeze!

Puddin' The lift on the back is definitely a back saver and a good idea, maybe I'm wrong but was thinking for the same price you could probably pick up and replace the hydraulic cylinder with an electric winch, it would lift and lower quicker, less work involved in lifting, and it would be more versatile, you could even drag parts to the truck that you can't get to. . or use it to pull the truck out if it gets stuck. A pulley on the end of the beam is all that you'd need

We did something very similar to a minivan we turned into a truck. The only dif in what we did is we attached a removable pole to the rear seat bolt holes that then attached to the hoist. It helped some with side to side but gave it incredible strength up and down. While not in use the pole came off the hoist and sat in the truck bed. Had allthread to extend to the removable hoist/cherry picker bumper mount.

That’s a good idea and it is pretty smart to make it removable. I would have put the anchor points in the box on the frame of the truck. But it’s so cool how you made it work. Hope you get better puddin.

I was in a bad accident a few years ago and suffered head trauma which I recovered from but developed absence epilepsy, which disqualified me from driving. I bought the pickup style crane that came with the wind up cable. I pulled the wind up off mine and mounted12 volt winch on it and I use it to load my motorcycle on my big rig trailer or on the catwalk. I like hobo freight stuffis!

I have a ww2 Manley tow boom that would have been in a willys. We put it in pickups and 4 bolts we have a tow truck on the farm. Tech tip: when you pick the truck up use the crane for lifting then put a chain between the trucks to do the towing so the force isn't on your boom

O.M.G. You have done it again. What an easy and helpful build.. the Porta-Crane.. There will be hundreds of uses for that crane, and you can almost fit it to any vehicle with a receiver. Necessity in the mother of invention. I like the scrap cabinet name also.

Puddin, they sell coil spring helpers that just twist in and will raise the car about 2 inches at almost any autoparts store. Just take that stuff out that made it ride hard and just twist those in in about 2 minutes and you will have have suspension. I love both channels and I watch every video. 3rd channel Puddins Scrap Cabinet. Take the a-frame part of it perpendicular to the hitch for a jack stand of sorts for heavy lifts. Take a hydro boost off an older truck, diverter valve and you can run the ram off the brakes. Put it on a swivel so you can lift and load into the back. Enjoying the second channel. The Jeep headlights had me laughing on a bad day. Thanks for that.

you should have flipped that receiver insert over so it raised the mounting point above the hitch. i've made a few quick mount attachments that fit into a 2" receiver hitch where i used a tow ball insert and a couple chains or flat bars for triangular stabilization so i can easily mount them onto a vehicle/machine. for example, a lifting boom with a hand crank winch, an 8000lb. 12v winch, a push blade for moving snow, a one bottom moldboard garden plow for a small tractor, a carry rack with a ramp for a power chair, a behind the cab truck bed toolbox carrier and a couple others that i tore apart to make something else, and they just seem to work out better that way. yeah i agree, puddin's scrap cabinet o' wonders sounds like a good name for a channel.
