quick tip - when you're pouring from those squareish cans, pour it so the hole is at the top, it's much more controllable and won't spill

Considering where it's being used, the shape is very impressive, not to mention the finish. Many times I fail to check my surroundings and plan the type of desk I want. This clearly is a lesson on how to plan even if I can't do this stuff. Thanks.

I started this plan. I’m wondering how are you able to cut the mdf front and side panels to perfect measurements. And also the plywood desktop to perfect measurements as well?

You guys do such great work!! Couple questions though. First are the links in the description affiliate links? Would love to support that way, I "need" one of those sprayers!! It doesn't open in my Amazon app on my phone, and I was having trouble identifying the store. Second is that I made a redwood wishing well that I think the Total Boat would do a great job. Which specific product would you recommend for something that's obviously going to stay outside, and that would at least somewhat preserve the redwood color pattern? Thank you much for all the posting you do. I hope your business is as successful as it looks!
@Woodbrew4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Jeff! Yes, the links are affiliate :) Here is the link to the sprayer: amzn.to/3jc1dSA For Total Boat recommendations, we recently used the Gleam 2.0 marine varnish and LOVED it. (www.totalboat.com/product/gleam/) Either that or the Lust Marine Varnish (www.totalboat.com/product/lust/). I think either one will benefit you! You can use the code "WOODBREW1" at checkout to get 15% off as well :)

I’m not a fan of how glossy the black is against the soft wood pine. Not sure why a few coats of matte finish wouldn’t have been efficient at least for the black... I understand the the top/pine where ppl will place their hands and rest their arms but surely a good water based finish would protect it.
@Woodbrew4 жыл бұрын
You can get this finish in a satin, rather than a gloss! This finish though is easier to clean and protects against UV light extremely well. To each their own though! We think it looks rad in the space ✌🏼

Nice job! I was concerned when you were using ply for the table top supports. But then you put that piece on the front. That will help a lot. You might still get some sagging in time, but not much. Maybe 1/8" or so in the middle of it. Likely not enough for anyone to notice and complain. You are right about the finishing being super important. Often it's what the client notices first. Anyone can be a bad painter/finisher... But a great paint job takes time, skill, and premium products. I know with commissioned jobs, you are kinda limited by the clients budget. But honestly brother, in a job like that one where it's going to be in a public place, it's either going to be an advertisement for your quality or your lack of quality. It wouldn't be a bad idea at all to upgrade the durability of the wood for free if the client wasn't willing to pay for the upgrade themselves. Beech, Oak, and Ash are all affordable options for durable projects like that. But other than that, you guys did a great job.

Great tips! This was was on a strict budget and part of what we like to do differently is create budget friendly solutions for retail spaces in our area. We have drummed up lot's of business by doing things with inexpensive materials , but in unique ways.

Now that a few months have gone by, how is this desk holding up?
@Woodbrew4 жыл бұрын
Really well! The only thing is people writing on top of it and the path of the pen is indenting in the wood. The owner put a piece of leather down and that is helping. That's one thing that you have to sacrifice when using soft wood and keeping the price down for the client.
